    This is an extremely amazing and useful video. We have a mare named Beauty, and she is very halter shy. I found this video and used these tips and tricks on her, and it worked!

    I halter break mine at one week old. When they get bigger it only becomes harder. Get a halter on your horse now and get started. You can find plenty of help on-line or find a trainer near you, just make sure they use natural horsemanship methods!

    Like your work- however missing sections in filming that are essential. Wish that was taped also but great work

      I could pretty much guestimate how he got from part one to the halter on the horse. Increments, keep the horse focused. Rub it with the halter first, then work up to looping it over his neck and release. Patience. They learn, some faster some take longer.

    Will this work on my two yr old untouched filly? She will eat treats out of my hand but won't let me touch her if I try , she doesn't run away but walks away. My trainer said to put her in a small area like stall to get her used to touch.. I have access to round pen.

    This is annoying. The part Im really wanting to plan out a gameplan on in regards to unhandled 2 Yo colt is how to deal with that first resistance to when that headstall gets fastened the first time. Done it plenty with babies, seen it done with ropes and older unhandled spoilt colts, want to go softer if I can, He faces up beautfully - but gotta stay safe and not cause issues for the boy later. But that is the exact bit you cut out. Well thats CZcams data and time Im never going to get back. Grrrr.

      Gerry Coleman I get my unbroken foals in the pen’s by using treats, carrots, etc.

      Kree so what do you do if they are completely wild and don’t want anything to do with you or your treats?

    • @BackFortyTV
      @BackFortyTV Před 4 lety

      Henry Henry drive it like cattle/steer into a trailer and then unload at the pen. If your pen is in your pasture, drive them straight in.

      With babies, as long as mom is quiet, I will go sit on the ground in the pen and read a book or play on my phone for a while. If you completely ignore him, he will get curious and come up to investigate what you are. Let him sniff and nose you and check you out until he is completely comfortable before you move. Start just holding your hand out until he touches it and is used to that. Then start actively trying to touch him. Just make sure to back off the pressure if he gets scared. Do that every day and he will settle down pretty quickly. Foals are curious and want to explore everything.

    My new horse has been neglected here is the story she was a colt and she was born in a pig pen cause the old owner had no space so he put her in a bigger sized hog pen and she was starved with no water and we were ( me and my grandpa)duck hunting and we saw 3 big animals in a hog pen and they looked like they were dead so we checked them and they were skin and bones one was dead and the other 2 just had no energy so we went home and got the trailer and came back we got they horses up and we let them lay in the trailer then we got them to the vet called the cops and now the horses are fat and healthy and it’s time for ground work me and my sister have one each and we are happy and got them some new halters and treats today

  • @stacyschenk
    @stacyschenk Před 5 lety

    Yeah. So your ideal of halter breaking and mine are way different. The Colts I handle HAVE NO PRIOR TRAINING AT ALL. Never taught respect, to follow to face, when to back up... no ground work ever. No interaction besides when bein fed and to be scratched . Some advice? You might try front the Actual beginning. Thanks good day

  • @wdowsley
    @wdowsley Před 6 lety

    There are no problem horses. The problem is with the people trying to handle them with wrong ideas.
    Well, you might rescue an old horse that has years of mishandling under its skin.
    That situation gets a bit tricky !!!

    Is it just me, or does this training look like something from the stone age?

    • @RobinColemanChannel
      @RobinColemanChannel Před 4 lety

      Horses haven’t changed since the Stone Age - people have. The ability to maintain calm and patience in today’s hurried world is a real talent. I’m working with a 9mo who’s proving to be quite a challenge - but I’ve been doing 30m at a time. Gonna try longer and see if I can make progress. Thanks for the video!

      @@RobinColemanChannel Sorry, I was not trying to be a wise ass, but this horse seems very fearful and unusual. Even horses off the prairie don't seem this jumpy.
