Only just found this site and have to say thankyou. I have wanted a koi pond for years and recently have been put off by people saying you need drum filters, airated drains, air source heat pumps etc. So I didn't bother, you guys have given me hope and encouragement now to build one simple. Already ordered some sleepers and scavenging parts for homemade filters as we speak so thankyou.
Great video 👍🏼I have just built a small nexus out of a loft water tank dustbin and a plaster bucket for my grow on. Setup on gravity fed works fantastic and cost about £150
Sunday morning guilty pleasure, listening to Koi talk whilst tinkering with the pond 😊
Great Podcast guys - one of your best ones so far ! 👍👍
Good talk lads , my drum broke down last week and needed parts , thank god i still have my nexus 210 as part of my filters . I have 3x blue barrels full of k3 moving bed that works well and only cost me £200 to make .Turn over is every 2hrs on a 25000 pond .
One of your best by far gents , brilliant really enjoyed it and how you are real about the hobby . There is alot of frightening Pr, marketing , you tube video's , people who just spout shit , nice to hear you both sincerely trying to help hobbyists!
I’ve gone FILTERLESS after spending much $$$$ on filters, pumps, media, etc. The only thing I haven’t backed off on is AERATION. The rubber air diffuser rings that Ricky has mentioned before are priceless yet inexpensive.
Very interesting topic today, lots of valuable insights on running a Koi Pond, and actually the information you provided has given me a belief that I most be doing something right. #SakiFoodYes
Thanks again guys, really superb information, I have learn so much this last podcast, thank you so much! 👍🏻
Very good podcast you 2 💪
talking about 4" bottom drain etc. why is we still using 4" when we for a fact know that people never pull the right amount of water through them 🤔
3" would do in 99.9% of cases. even smaller would do in many cases. Then you get a higher velocity through the pipe and it will keep it clean 🙏
So using the right dimension pipe to the pond and flow would be a good choice when building a pond 😊
Love love love these videos. Saki Hikari is the best. I started with koi sticks like many others but what a difference Saki Hikari made in my backyard koi. I don't buy the best fish but try to get decent fish. First fish was from chain store Superpetz and is now 21 years old! Anyway, when researching foods, I liked what I read on the Hikari website, especially the probiotics. Bought it, saw the results, never looked back.
Super helpful podcast- thanks both!
Good episode that really informative. Great stuff. Cheers Ricky- Chris 👍
For my bespoke filters, I use aerial bucket liners with K1 in them. We used to have a power line construction company, so they were free and are super sturdy plastic. They take uniseals very well. I plumbed air lines to the bottoms and that's how I clean them. Never have to get my hands dirty, just turn valves. Now my Ultima II filters have been sitting for a couple years now unused. Guess I'll sell them. They work great too but slow the flow so I can have the same flow with less electricity with the bucket liners.
Thank you Gents😊
Another banger!!
Looking forward to this talk, may come handy if and when I build my next pond, so far agree with koi not keen aereted drains, I only have 1 in a 40 square meter pond, only have the air on in summer. The fish keep away from the bubbles. And yes 18000 thousand liters through a 4" drain and still get crap building up, good job for the purge valve
I have got a home made foam box dropping into a second hand ibc home made moving bed dropping bk to pond works perfectly and very cheap
Great video again guys 👍
Awesome video. I would like to join the koi talk magazine services. When will it be back in stock? It is telling me on your site its currently out of stock.
