This video actually made me think about my own manga that im working on, it's named Pitch Black. It's basically about a group of all-female vigilantes who try to take on their dark and corrupt world to change it for the better. It's sorta shonen-esque with a lot of supernatural/fantasy themes. It's also more so centered around the characters and watching them battle their internal challenges as flawed people and world as well. The title was basically supposed to represent how they constantly struggle and their world feels almost hopeless, so I kinda always wondered if my title held up as a good one 🤔

Can anything non-Japanese qualify as manga? I mean if it's a western creation, it's a comic not manga even if it shares many stylistic similarities with manga. Is there a name for non-Japanese manga as in manwa from Korea? Maybe there should be a specific word for western manga.

@etinarcadiaego7424 there are things call OEL manga (original english language) which is just a manga in the sense of the formatting and setting and about japanese characters, but written in the west. Mark Crilley's work is a good example. However works like Avatar the last Airbender are considered western graphic novels because even though the style is clearly manga influenced, it is produced in a standard western format, in English, with nothing in the work evoking a Japanese setting or anything Japanese. Remember, it's okay if your work isn't a manga in the traditional sense. A lot of us artists get heavily influenced by manga in our formative years and our early art journey and we end up in a very narrow scope of art style and idea of what our work must be like, but you can make a work identical to your ideal comic and still have it be a "western comic", it's really a matter of semantics and nothing else. However if you want to format your work like a manga (read backwards) and are drawing a very traditionally Japanese "anime" art style, then sure, you can call it a manga if you want. But remember, manga literally just means comic in Japanese. Its not a special category or "type" of comic. It's just a comic made by somebody who speaks Japanese and that's the only word they can call it. You can call every manga just a "comic" and it's still correct.

As a "not your average writer", I find creating titles to be hard when it's specifically catered to the genre and story you're trying to put out. For example, one of my titles is basically fanfiction but in a more... unique way.
Zeroland, used to be simply called "Zero", is a series that emphasizes mixing reality with fiction with the main theme being the truth of humanity and the underlying themes of freedom, companionship and pre-determined fates. There are two sagas, I would like to call, for this series. The New Light saga, which I have finished from the start to the very end, and the Second Chance saga which I haven't finished because I have more projects that I want to write.
For those that are curious for my other projects, here they are, starting from:
    Standalone Projects
    -
Muhammad's Chronicles - A historical manga series inspired by Vinland Saga and tells a fictionalized version of Muhammad from the start of his life to his very own death alongside the themes of death, violence and peace.
SYSTEM VEIL - A manga series highly inspired by God Eater and is set in a cyberpunk-ish dystopia apocalyptic setting where only one settlement exists and that is SYSTEM with the main theme being the greed of humanity.
The Vampire Detective - A manga series that is inspired by Jun Mochizuki's Case Study of Vanitas and follows Havise Yamashiki, a Nasjonalite vampire detective with his personal detective agency, The Inspektoriani Case Agency, in solving a variety of cases in a supernatural Victorian era setting with the main theme being the identity of humanity.
This Peaceful Life That I Know - A simple slice of life light novel series with a very dark twist that flips the simple genre on it's head, find out yourself. : )
    Series Projects
    -
The Catalyst-Process-Result Project - A series that follows three protagonists in three different fictional time-periods that are connected to each other. This series is still in progress in being layout of not only it's genre, but story, characters, terminology and lore.
Rushè - An isekai manga series that instead of a bright new world, tells a dark old world where over a hundred years ago, the Distinction Event happened where humanity gains a second chance at life through death, if they have the will to keep on living and are afraid to die at that point.

      @tangoes4216 Před 11 měsíci

@@bella_daze3092 Haha, I wish. The only problem is that... I don't think I have clarified it in my original comment so, I'll clarify it here much to everyone's dismay probably. Zeroland is not finished in the original sense, I label it as finish because the story is mostly done, the lore itself is also done, starting from the Singularity Plex all the way to the fiction-side of lore and the backstory light novels also being done in the unique sense. The only problem is that... I did not publish the stories, because I don't know how to draw, especially with projects that I explicitly labeled it's medium to be, which is manga and sometimes light novels.
So, yeah. Sorry for the let down. The thing is, I can draw, it's just that the illustrations I have done are mostly copies or tracings of an existing picture (which is for school by the way, which is weird.) and for me personally, drawings are about realizing an imagination in a 2D plane which is where comics and manga come from, personally at least. So... yeah, me problem. But thanks for the interest though, if you want more questions on my projects. We can do that in Discord since it's where I'm online the most despite not being highly active much to my own disappointment.
Tldr; Zeroland is not finished completely, only story-wise and many other things all because I can't properly draw in my own sense.
Yeah, thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

This is a good guide, I personally think that titles should be maximum of 3 words, like if you can, you should try making a title with only one word that sounds iconic like: Evangelion, Bleach, Naruto, Berserk. etc, but the ones of two words are also good, like Dragon Ball, One Piece, Death Note, Cowboy Bebop. etc. and maybe 3 or maximum 4 of it has supporting words like Attack on Titan, My hero academia, Spy X Family. etc

    • @MonitorComics
      @MonitorComics  Před rokem +1

That is definitely possible. A protagonist is just the "point of view" character. If you start chapter 2 through the eyes of another character then they will be the protagonist for that chapter. Usually a story will have one *main protagonist* but many series have times where they tell the story through another character's eyes

Light novels from what I've heard, are the result of the site that hosts some of them literally not having a description function. While western webfiction sites will have descriptions and tagging, one of the more well-known Japanese sites I have heard only has the ability for a title, meaning authors are effectively required to have Homestuck troll movie titles as their light novel titles if they want to explain what the book is actually about.
Personally, when it comes to titles, I like a few. Made in Abyss is a cool pun on Made in China. Houseki no Kuni (Land of the Lustrous) is wonderfully poetic. The full title of Worldend is just funny. And while I like both Casshern Sins and GakkouGurrashi! (School Live!), because they sound cool, I think Mahou Tsukai no Yome (The Ancient Magus'* Bride) is my favorite in that category.
(* Magus' as singular possessive is inaccurate English. The plural is Magi, and singular possessive is Magus's. Despite this, the actual English title is Magus'.)
As for my own titles, _The Bluff's Damsel, Wetware, Iron Vein,_ and others are pretty decent. I like to keep my titles related to the story, rather than naming them after characters. And the first of those I got from an old (now defunct) romance title generator (I think it literally spat out The Bluff and the Damsel or something). Meanwhile the other two are -punk action stories; the first a biopunk cyberpunk hybrid with heavy emphasis on the prior; and the latter a more purist cyberpunk, albeit both have elements of body horror. I do have another longer less-romance title by the name of _50 Years a Blade: Embrace,_ which while the main title is a direct reference to the overarching concept of the world the story takes place in, the subtitle is more intended as a one-word-title for this particular narrative's more emotionally driven story.

I need to edit the title of my manga. The title came from the beta which was just a one off one page gag, so I didn't put much thought in.
The series is currently called "So I'm Kinda a God", which gives insight into what it's about and was also meant to reflect the protagonist's way of speaking and dodging the question.
However, I feel this title is a bit too long and not catchy enough. It has a few more syllables than a typical best seller and it doesn't flow that nicely. Also with so many words the acronym would be SIKAG, and I think 5 is pushing it. Also it's not a title you could easily shorten, like Toilet Bound Hanako Kun becomes hanako, the distasterous life of saiki k becomes saiki k and so on.
I'm going to have to brain storm and work out a better title to ensure my work gets read.

I'm writing a Superhero comic. So far I've got almost all the characters in the first chapter drawn out, names and powers sre done. Need a few more and i can move forward with it. I've also got an idea for the cover. But I'm drawing a blank on the storys name.
I'm placing it in a fictional town in Washington state called Port Royal. There's a superhero academy that enrolls metahumans mostly and occasionally normal humans that are can handle their powered counterparts at the 10th grade level. The main character is am empath who can weaponize hus emotions like a Lantern Corpsman can. The narrator is a friend of his who does get powers of her own. I plan to tell the story from their ages if 16 to 20-22.

I think it does sound a bit straightforward, but you could definitely brainstorm variations of the phrase "grim" "grim reaper" and "reaper." Usually when people say the word reaper they know what it is referring to. My biggest concern for the title would be it getting lost in the google search results so you might want to add a few more keywords or shorten it to a single word or two words maybe

Hahahah, the Clannad title is funny. It's actually shortened from 'Clann as Dobhar' (Irish for 'Children of Dore' - an area of the remote parish of Gweedore in County Donegal). Because everybody in the band, past and present, are all related (Ciarán, Pól, Moya and Enya Brennan - siblings - and their uncles Pádraig and Noel Duggan), it's a fitting misunderstanding. 'Clann' is more like 'family', but it's regularly translated as 'children', likely because it's a bit of a more vague term, but it's so close that the author of Clannad isn't a million miles off.

It is also two very broad terms so copyrighting it would be difficult. I'm not saying the title is bad, I think it does relate to your story and is a good placeholder. None of my ideas are anywhere close to being made because I am currently working on my portfolio for my carreer. Here is what I have so far and the genres they are.

    Dragon Kings. Fantasy.

    Hidden World. Supernatural.
    Killer Hero. Superhero.
    Magic Knights. Supernatural.
    Monster Containment. Apocalypse, Scifi fantasy.
    Monsters of Terra. Scifi, fantasy.
    Reborn Kings. Fantasy.
Rise of the Nephilim. Supernatural, Apocalypse.
    Seven Sins. Supernatural.
    War of the Gods. Supernatural.
I have a scifi story I don't have a name for yet. I am still deciding between three names. End of the war, Galactic war, or War of the stars. I'm thinking using Galactic War as the main title and using a subtitle for each book. I want this idea to have multiple books so I think that would work for this story.
