I think I've seen it. Enjoyed it too
hank..flow of electrons in a electrical circut is from - to + so attaching - first allows electron flow through the circut so "they" say attach + first to avoid that possibility..... or at least that is how it was explained to me
On a 2-stroke Detroit it's been sitting a long time you should always take off the valve cover and make sure the injector control rack is free and not sticking so the motor does not stick at wide open throttle. That machine is in really nice shape and would make a good one for somebody. Hank cheers as thrmachine starts in gear and takes off with Wiley down over the hill into the pond.Uhh where's the driver seat?
Did You not watch at 26:00.
Henry, that's not how that joke goes. It's not with cannibals. It was with a serial killer who was eating a clown. When the detectives came to the place where he was eating the dead clowns arm. He was offering it to them, while he asked them 'Does this taste funny to you?'
Looks like the boom hoist clutch is stuck while it was running be fore you guys start the engine make Shure the master clutch is disengaged so the boom wont flip over and kill anybody by crashing back wards on too the cab please find some one that know about friction cranes🙄🙄🙄🤓🤓
Absolutely love your videos Dynamic Duo is Back 😁😁😁💟💟💟💟
Thanks!
That's what i absolutely love about your contest, Hank. You got an awesome sense of humor. And you find the best interesting things to work on. I always laugh when you you and Wily get together, keep up that excellent work. 👍👍👍👍
Hank really enjoyed this video. You and Wiley were funny. I appreciate the shout-out, buddy. This was an awesome will it start 👍
Thought I was on the wrong channel. Nice service truck right close, lots of tools, multiple new batteries. You guys are getting pretty slick already, but if you had a couple real heavy-duty cables that bolted on instead of jumper cable clamps might save some battery toting. Thanks for providing another entertaining hour -
Oh man, we beed to scale back some!!!😂
A pawl is a lever that usually engages a drum to deliver power like on a pull start engine. When you pull the rope a pawl grabs the pulley witch turns the engine over. A pawl is also used to engage a drum when you put a automatic transmission in park to keeping the car stopped.
On an automatic the parking pawl is just a pin
It's a dog in the drum that fits in the dog pocket so the drum can't free fall it the brakes release. You have too engage the master clutch and drum clutch too rotate the drum up too remove the dog than you can hold the drum on the brake.
Wilie, that silver weld on the bucket is called Hard Facing. It is a special rod that has a lot of chrome in it to act as a wear inhibitor. Dirt get stuck between the weld beads and protects the parent metal form wear.
Hard surfacing
@@twinkie27271 Tomato - Tamato
Nope, hard-facing is the correct term. I used Esab and BOC hard facing electrodes for fifty years and they were marked that on the box.
Good job guys that old Detroit 4-71 still sounded stout and started like it was just ran two days ago.
With the way the boom is over angle dangerously vertical with the safety rods bent looks like a stuck boom hoist clutch .guys please be careful
The pawl in question is the boom hoist pawl. When the pawl is engaged in the boom hoist drum the boom cant be lowered. Not even if the brake is released.
Always love it when an old Detroit diesel comes running back to life!!💗💗 my favorite diesel engines ever made!
That crane never set for 13 years..you and Willy was lucky it never moved with the boom straight in the air..stick to trucks that are more safe than equipment you know nothing about..wow..... 1:02:55
A pawl can also be a dog that engages a gear tooth to prevent it from moving. Like on your come-a-long ratchet with the pawl lever.
And... I've gotta give a shout to you all... I really like the both of you and your shows. And thanks to You tube! Very educational 👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you for sharing and your appreciation Hank
This machine boom is jacked up and no telling what else
My Dad ran draglines all his life and I’ve never seen a bucket hang like that with the boom straight up
Lol
Whoever was last one operating that crane is still running for his life!
I wouldn't even dream of starting that engine with the boom in that position and the backstops all bent up.
Thank you, your videos are so enjoyable and for me some of the most normal and natural input we can get when the outside world "goes insane" 🙏This reminded me of my childhood years in the 80s when I was with my grandfather and launched an old wooden boat from the dock to the sea with a similar crane, used half a can of ether to get started. The boat had an ancient Saab single cylinder engine, where we had to screw these Zundfix Diesel starting cigarettes into the nozzle to fire the engine👍🙂
Thanks for another great video. I love both of your guy's channels.
Thank you for watching
Enjoyed this video Hank and Wiley. Another success. It is hard for me to understand someone abandoning an expensive machine for 13 years.
Couldn't have been a cheap purchase,,, I'd been runnin it til it wouldn't no more!
A lot of videos on youtube of abandoned machines and you watch and say wtf I would run that on my property until the tracks or bucket fell off
@@rirebel6029 yep 🤣
@@muddawgkomm9642 I believe the boom hoist was adjusted too tight and she lifted the boom without the control lever being touched or the automatic boom cutout failed and the operator didn't know how to stop it lifting so it kept going until it stalled the engine. You can tell it was being operated by an amateur by the way he left the bucket hanging and left. Only a complete knob would do that.
These videos are just totally the very best when Both Hank and Wiley are together. They’re like Laurel and Hardy lol. I’m not saying their videos are not good when they’re alone but when they’re together, it’s just the best. 😂 good work yall
Koehing started as bantam in waverly iowa actually 2 mile from me across the cedar river a man named bantam things went well moved to waverly then bantam koehing then terex love videos sirs
Is that the same Bantam that built the first Jeep?
Thanks!
Thank you so much for that. We truly appreciate it
Well it's sure good to tune in an see you doing something worth watching ☺️. Thank you Lord. Oh, an thanks to you guys 😘.
Your best videos are with the two of you together, just the best team
This is a generic question…how old is Wiley for real? I’m 40 and he moves around better than I do! I have a serious chronic illness and had cancer and y’all really get me through the hard times. Thank you for what you do. Much love guys.
Matt likes older equipment but doesn't mean he needs it. Between wily, yours and Matt's channel, you just can't get enough of the older machines. Best channels i have found by far
And Matt is a great guy. Thanks for watching buddy!
@@HamiltonvilleFarm I appreciate y'all taking the time to take us along on all of these great videos. Y'all stay safe out the bud.
Good to see the gang back together. Always great vids.
👍
I agree!
Hank..you both NEED leatherman tools! Seen a few videos that if you guys had them might of saved a trip to truck! Love the channel!
You guys always look like you haveso much fun doing these start-ups. Great video 📹 👍 God Bless
The boom pawl is a dog to help hold the boom up. When ya boom up and hear a clicking noise then it is ingaged and you can't boom down. That's probrably why the boom is so high. You gotta disengage the boom pawl while booming up just a bit then boom down.
Hank, if you ever get over near Jasper/ White Springs Fla, I could show you a machine. A 4600 Manitowoc. Been sitting @ 5 years. Largest tracked dragline ever built. The counterweight is a 2000 gallon fuel tank. Has a 300 Cummins to power the tracks. A V24 Cummins main & a 4-71 genset. It's a beast. You could drive a service truck with a boom under it. The main engine had 4 starters. This machine came out of a coal mine in Pennsylvania. The supervisor at the old sand mine stated it took 56 flatbeds to haul it down here. Ever get this way, I could point it out. Just off I10 Hwy 6 Jasper. 2 miles to machine.
Hellow Wiley good to see you again buddy
Very nice job and God bless y'all
Awesome 👏🏻 super cool video. Man I bet hanging out with Wiley you have learned a lot over the years? Seems like such a good ole boy those are the guys this generation needs to be listening too! You both are very knowledgeable on all these engines & equipment. Like I said before y’all are definitely the OG’S of will it start videos, I won’t watch anyone else’s 🤣🤣👍🏻
Good job boys, What a team
Guys. PLEASE. Don’t mess with any more cranes without a chaperone. This is the second crane you’ve been involved with, and the second one that’s been in a wreck. And this wreck hasn’t even been straightened up, it’s still teetering. If the master clutch wasn’t unhooked and the air lines were not off, you would probably be the new owners of a sad little crane wrapped up in a ball. And you might be doing that from a hospital bed. I like watching you guys, and I want you to stay in good shape. I know God is watching over you, but sometimes he gets right busy and the devil slips in. Take care and thanks for the videos. P.S. I think that machine is what the legal beagles call an attractive nuisance.
when you said Florida, and I saw some water were the boom was pointed. I was saying lookout for those mean gaters creeping around.
Wiley makes me laugh so much, bless his little cotton socks
Hank awesome video
A pawl is a rachet type locking mechanism similar to this on a regular handbrake.
Pawl is a catch which holds the line / cable...
Like on a free wheel bicycle where pedals can coast and engage the pawls when you peddle.
I never thought that would start. That makes you guys Legends. 5 star video.
I think 🤔 the both of you should be able to get it to work 😮🎉🎉🎉❤❤
Good to see you Fella’s
Hello Hank,
Great job you guys
Be well
Great job
Hank, i wish you would do a vidio on the highs and lows on what it takes to put one of your vidios on u tube, i love in australia and no nothi ng of what you go through to do what you do, so what would a super thanks do for you, thanks for your show ( and wiley too ) 👍👍👍
Hand, or Pawl - In any mechanism, a small lever that engages a notch to actuate movement in one direction only. Specifically, a small spring-loaded lever attached to the a hammer that restricts movement on a revolver. I am not sure about your machine, but it probably allows a drum or pulley to move in oe direction when a lever is pulled.
Nice intro Hank!! Sweet!
Edit: PB Blaster does smell good but man, Kano AeroKroil smells BETTER!! (for a while unless you accidentally poke a hole in the big can and it sprays all over the inside of your van and you have to smell it for a month because it REALLY sticks to metal)
😅
If ever I was at deaths door and my heart stop beating please give Wiley a call that guy can start anything 😂 ✌️👍 from 🏴
WooooWhooo! Listen to that Detriot scream! 👍👍 That's the sound of power! Good job fellas!!
I don't think you guys know how lucky you were . That boom has already gone over it's up limit and bent the boom stops so it is ready to collapse . and the other thing I noticed in your vid the boom but section is rusted thru in places You were just plain lucky on this day when filming . I do operate cranes for a living .
I've seen backstops bent so bad that the boom won't come down cause the stops are holding it up.
@@seamusburke9101 Me too
@@MrAkphill I'd never have started that engine with the boom in that mess. Absolute madness, did you see where one of em was standing when they fired her up. In between the engine and the drums! Absolutely crazy.
If you need any information on the machine I can help. I own 3 405's. The Paul is your boom hoist locking Pawl, keeps the boom from accidentally falling. I have videos also of complete tear downs if you want to see the internal workings
Great job on start and Comedy show is Even better🙄
gday wiley and hank. a few years ago i worked in a firewood yard in queenstown here in nz. they had a terex loades with a 672 minus one. for about four hours the boys were useing it till they finally complained it had bugger all power. it took me about 2 minutes to find the problem. i opened up that flapper plate and away she went. some body had played with it.
It's apawling that you don't know what a Pawl is..! It is like a lock, to stop the rotation of the parts at a certain set position. Could also be a 'Detent', which is a calibrated stop position for any control.
ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO
Well done gentleman that was a easy one 👍👋🇨🇦
No Chris at let's did 18 wants one great video thanks hanj and Wylie
I love watching you guys and diesel Creek.
Thanks!
Great job God bless
Thank you
Love the platform body on your truck lot better than my pallet I use on my 71 Chevy k10
The 4-71 was 160 horsepower, the 71 was the cubic inches, so 284 cubic inch displacement, not horsepower. The 16 V-71 was 800 horse.
it sounds good
Sounds Goooooooooood 😁😁😁😁😁👍👍👍👍
Hank and Whilley that was different and really great always a good laugh made my day can't wait for next video
Thank you sir
A fun video and you guys got the job done you beat that
👍👍
Detroits don't have intake valves. The blower pressurizes the lower half of the block. When the pistons come down past the air slots on the sleeves, charge air is blown in. Piston comes up injector squirts, ignition, power stroke, exhaust valves open.
another success.
Pensacola-Huh? I went to Naval training school there back in 1968. Beautiful place
Вы супер удачи здоровья счастья вам и вашим родным и близким
Love the comedy guys keep it up
Wow, you bring back this monster Drug Crane to the life! 👏👏👏🤘🤘🤘
there is[ maybe still] a American 20ton rough country military crane on pickwick lake near Miss line. can be bought for scrap, 2 engines in her.
I recently found this channel. I love both your personalities and the work you guys do. Keep up the great content and maybe get Wiley a nice step ladder for his knees
Welcome!
Um, we don't need to be spoiling Wiley now, he's used to it rough, and he likes it😂
Hank dang them legs are dangerous can't see for the glare lol hey Wylie stay safe guys ty for adventure
You guys are quite the pair 😂!
Bountiful HANK🌹
Love this channel. You guys crack me up. Lol.
Boa noite muito top esse trabalho máquina meu amigo
We need to start a go fund me page for Riley so he can get a new hat😂😂😂
He needs a ladder 🪜
We always used ti say if that detroiht isnt leaking its not running right, we always carried 2 gallons of oil with us!!
Pawl is gear possibly an idler. Or middle Good luck.
Ole Chris @LetsDig18 was looking for a drag line. He did a video on one a while back but it was to far gone to be moved. Don't know if this fits what he's looking for but never know lol
There's a great video on Lord Muck's channel about how 2-stroke Detroits work, it's a clever system.
I logged in a lot of years on them old 405's . That is the original fuel cap on the tank Hank.
Yahooooo, one more for the road.
A fella has to engage the master clutch to turn the draw works to work all the frictions. That machine with the air levers was built in the mid 60's till the end of the 405 run. before that it was manual levers.
A pawl is a lever / lock device
has a lee-schnelle system == cranks on 24 = runs on 12 , this on a road truck 12 volts for lighting and other accessorys
Swing lever usually makes it travel when you engage the travel mode
the pawl is a mechanical lock to prevent the boom from dropping. i don't want to be rude but you guys need to brush up on a machine like this because they will kill you. had you engaged the engine clutch you might have found the boom being pulled over backwards. the pedals you were stomping on are the brakes for the drums. the swing lever also runs the travel usually unless it has independent travel. one of those air switches to the left will switch between the functions. looks like it was a real nice machine at one time
I worry when anyone interfere with a crawler crane who has no idea how they work. Seen too many disasters.
Nice would be cool if someone bought it and fully restored it
What fun is it to just get the motor running. Got to play with the controls and get it working. It has all air controls so needs air pressure to activate the clutches
It was a ton of fun 😂
nice .
You are scout for dis mashins .
Hand, or Pawl - In any mechanism, a small lever that engages a notch to actuate movement in one direction only. Specifically, a small spring-loaded lever attached to the hammer of a revolver which actuates the cylinder to advance one increment and move the next chamber into battery as the hammer is cocked. Not sure what it is on this machine but I'm sure it must be similar.
You can tell a detroit 53 from a 71 by the valve cover, the 71 has the two knobs on top, the 53 has bolts around the cover.
