    We're rounding out the Dog Door Series with the final step of building a deck and ramp for our dogs to be able to get to the dog door we built. It was a really simple and pretty quick build with minimal supplies to make all of this work worth while and have a great space for our dogs to be in the dog run and age with our older dogs.

    This is exactly what I've been looking for in a ramp. Going to use these plans for building a ramp this weekend! Great lookin' pup, by the way!!

    I built something very similar for my little guys about 6 years ago. They love it. I love it. It's very functional and practical. Way to go, guys! Thanks for sharing. 👍

    GREAT JOB !!! Loved watching every minute of it !! When I made mine, I left about a 1/4 in between each board on the ramp so the pups toe nails can get some bite when the wood is wet. cuts down on a little slippage

      @@olivegreyavenue it works ! Discovered from trial and error. Was going to put sandpaper type adhesive backed tape on it but couldn't find much aside from stuff u put on the bathtub that was weather proof. So I backed out the woodscrews and left the small gap and it WORKED so much better than expected !!! Now they can walk up the ramp wet or dry with ease. Before doing so... Either way they would get a running start to make it to the top. Now they just walk up and their nails grab the open spaces allowing for extremely great traction ! Let me know if y'all try it ! Loved yalls videos !!

      I spray painted mine with textured paint. But I saw where someone had put turf on theirs. That seem like a great idea too. I put the foamy shelf covering on their steps next to the bed. But doing something where they can dig in is a good idea. My old guy kind of struggles with slippage if he doesn't have something to allow for traction. 😉

    Thank you for this video. My dog is having hard time going up stairs but not down, this gives me an idea on how to build a doggy deck / ramp for him.

    Looks amazing! I'm moving next month and the first thing I'm going to do is build a fence and install a doggy door. I don't think I'll need to build a ramp as the door will be low enough to the ground. Has your dog ever accidently fallen off the edge of the deck? My beagle is blind and I know she would walk right off the edge. I had to put pieces of plywood up both sides of my back step so she wouldn't fall off. Not the most attractive looking but it does the trick. Luckily, my new house doesn't have steps - I made sure the new house would accommodate my blind dog (she's only 7 so I expect her to live many more years).

      @olivegreyavenue  Před 2 lety

      No they’ve never fallen off that I know of. They jump off sometimes though.

    Do you need a permit from the city district you live in when building something of this general idea?

    Is this a south facing wall? Wondering if you have any issues with water coming in or if it would be better installed on an east / north facing wall?

    • @olivegreyavenue
      @olivegreyavenue  Před 3 lety +2

      This is on a south facing wall. But we haven’t had any issue with leaking. We’ve had a few bad storms and never seen water inside. I think a lot of that has to do with making sure to seal the door surround properly and then the trim is just another measure of protection.

    Great video. It is exactly what I am building except for the doggy door exit. Mine comes off the deck. What did u put on the ramp to help with slippage when wet? We live in Ohio, so I'll have to deal with snow and ice too, unfortunately.

    • @olivegreyavenue
      @olivegreyavenue  Před 3 lety +1

      We haven't had an issue with our dogs slipping on the ramp but if we ever do, we will probably use anti-slip tread tape that you can buy at The Home Depot!

    I liked this project a lot. When I see people loving their pets the faith in humanity comes to me. I have been looking around and have not found anything about building a dog house attached to a home -house for humans-, and I thought this video was as close to it as I could find so I decided to ask here. Is it too far fetched or am I crazy? May be it is indicated against by trainers or dog behaviorists? I am human for a german shepherd male dog named Divo. The dog house would conceal the dog door and it would appear as if the dog came out of its house and not the human house. What do you think?

    What's the address of the online calculator for the slope of the ramp?

    • @olivegreyavenue
      @olivegreyavenue  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Vanessa, we just did a google search for the appropriate slope of the ramp and many of the ramp manufactures said the same thing. When we googled for "ramp calculators" many are for ADA compliance slopes but do the trick. We entered the slope (angle) we wanted and got the rise and run for our ramp. You can play with the numbers to fit your space if possible or to see how far out of the slope you are. This one isnt for ADA compliance but lets you fill in what you know. www.blocklayer.com/riseruneng.aspx
      "The rise of the ramp should incline to an angle of between 18 to 25 degrees. Small dog breeds need an incline angle of 18 to 20 degrees. Medium size dog breeds need an incline angle of 22 to 25 degrees"
      Thanks for watching!

    Does this have a security panel that you can lock it if you leave or at night?

    • @olivegreyavenue
      @olivegreyavenue  Před 2 lety

      The dog door comes with a hard plastic panel that slides into the opening so you can “lock” it.

    Do not attach anything to your house if you live in a cold region, or the heaving will damage the brick! (for anyone watching this outside of somewhere warm)
