This seems to be a commentary on abstract art and films/stories of artists and their flamboyant personalities in the studio. The video seems very oriented in fine art culture, and celebration of people who act, well, just like Alan does in this video, except with 'real' paint. On the one hand we have critique of the stereotypical 'flamboyant artist' artificial stereotype (represented by his own facial tearing and digital mess-ups). On the other hand he asks the question of how valuable abstract art is: we have a clear representation of attempts of visual perfection (with his digitized face) but also the messy kind of art that features in galleries. Is the abstract art somehow lessened in beauty when made digitally? The art disappears at the end -- is that commentary on the transience of digital art versus the permanence of traditional media? That's how I read this video.
Well, this dude is an abstract artist, who actively comments on the fine art scene. I'd be really surprised if he's making weird, meaningless shit for fun. Like, that's a lot of effort to put into something with no hidden or deeper meanings.

It broke me when I realized how many things here are fake or edited, like that his footsteps are dubbed, and the canvas itself isn't real and that everything clips through the canvas, which I had assumed was at least a green screen.
