For this video, I have used Hulk for 40mm sub so that you can easily spot (especially in the wrist shots) when I am wearing 40mm (older sub) and when its the new 41m sub. The differences are subtle, so it can get a bit hard to spot which one is new vs old when both are black dials, so I hope using Hulk helps you with that :) One correction @ 07:51: The lug to lug height is 0.15 to 0.2mm taller. Pardon the Slip of tongue in the video as I said the new Sub 41 is 1.5 to 2mm taller. The dimensions I have quoted for L2L and the printed text on the screen is correct. Enjoy the video. Hope this will help clarify what's new in the new and what's not :)

Very impressive, the size in fact is negligible after watching this video I’m thinking the newer watch is an upgrade and slightly more refined. If after trying one on it feels better or as good as the older maxi case then I’d say this watch will be a winner! I like the thicker size of the hands they seem more substantial and sport like easier to view especially in the dark. The bracelet width I think is also a nice upgrade. Well done comparison 👍.

I bought a new Submariner 40 years ago.....if I were to buy another it would be the new 41mm.
However, at my age I’ve moved away from Rolex’s slab-sided cases a bit for the standard Oyster profile.

Just a great review. It's so good I have every confidence that if my AD called tonight and said she had a new 41 or new 40 I could make the easy decision to take either one and I'd be happy.
I didn’t understand why some took issue with the super case until I collected my Sub 41. Now whenever I wear my Hulk, it looks overly square. So I prefer the proportions of the Sub 41. Great video as usual Hafiz!

I like the way this new Sub would compliment my 2004 five digit Sub better than the 2010-2020 six digit could. They’ve made it very tailored, faceted and crisp as though it was restyled by a jeweler who cuts diamonds.

i must admit i was getting bored of all the reviews on the new rolex sub but after seeing yours i had to comment...what a brilliant, insightful comparison! the detailed measurements and observations of the dial and case were truly illuminating. also appreciated the accuracy test of the calibres and hope you incorporate such testing in future reviews. btw, glad you still have your hulk; i was half thinking of selling mine with all the hype but decided to keep it as it will become an icon and a classic.

Another awesome video - great videography work, these are wonderfully produced.
Strangely I prefer the older version which look more rough and tough for a dive watch on the wrist! The Maxi case make it looks very different from past Submariner and feel very different too on the wrist! It’s like comparing Daniel Craig vs Pierce Brosnan and other James Bond in the past! If one prefer a more refined look for suit and tie occasion, the GMT Batman or Yachtmaster rhodium dial will probably suit this role better! Thanks Hafiz for uploading another cracking video!

Hi, I could be wrong but if you take a good hard look at the ROLEX font on the dial, the newer Sub will have a bolder font.
As for the rotor noise is because newer Rolex movement started using ball bearing rotor vs the older bushing rotor.
One thing no reviewer seems to have mentioned is how much more comfortable and balanced the new 41mm watch feels on the wrist compared to the 40mm. The reason is because the bracelet is 1mm wider and the clasp is also wider and bigger which stops the unbalanced "top heavy" feel of the 40mm that I found would "tilt" on the wrist due to the wide maxi case and very narrow, small clasp.
A master comparison. The only thing I would add would be to weight the case and bracelet separately from each other and see what percentage is on top and what percentage is on the sides/bottom. This balance is what provides a good wearing experience. Twice I sold a 16610 at different points in my life due to the watch feeling top heavy and overwhelming the bracelet. That's why I now wear a polar 16750 with solid end links, much better balanced on the wrist.

As always top notch videos and yes I agree with what others have said, the most comprehensive video I have seen regarding this topic. I am lucky enough to have obtained a 126610LV and it is tough to see the differences to my 116610LN on the case without really looking hard. The most obvious is the thicker bracelet and clasp. Regarding the bracelet, I actually like the fact that it's is wider on the newer sub. I have a Tudor BB58 with a 20mm bracelet. Comparing it against my Seiko SKX on a Strapcode superoyster in 22mm I prefer the look of the Strapcode bracelet. It emphasizes the beauty of the brushed steel and oyster look more, because it's obviously bigger. Also, I feel like wider bracelets are more comfortable, because they hug the wrist better, whereas a narrower bracelet might tilt diagonally a bit when you wear the watch as less surface is hugging the wrist. That's just my experience and how the watches wear on my wrist, of course.

excellent comparison. Evolution not revolution just like every new version of the Porsche 911.
The new sub looks well proportionate but it also looks blown up with wider bracelet, which make the entire watch chunkier instead of just those lugs. The new old sub wears smaller imo with smaller and more tapered bracelet.
You must have incredible eyes if you can notice the 1mm difference in the bracelet. The old one is so chunky because of the lugs the new 41 wears smaller.
Well, yes, it’s pretty obvious actually. The clasp is chunky af and wider bracelet make it looks flappy and unrefined. If you own the older generation sub, you will notice the different and, no, they wear the same on the wrist not smaller
Interesting.. I have a 2018 40mm and have at times thought an increase in size might work with the size of my wrist so was interested to see this brilliant review but does this marginal difference in size warrant an upgrade... ?

Still the best Rolex channel of all time. Notice how Rolex bolded the text over time, even across the ceramic subs. The white text is increasingly whitened and crisp, more bold. I do wonder if they have over done it. What do you think, Hafiz?
Referencing the AR coating .. i thought it was the external coating that has been added to the new model, not internal as refernced in video. It has always had internal AR. Excellent video as usual, no better comparison out there 👌
Thanks for the great comparison! I own new Sub 126610LV(Starbucks) and can compare these two Subs as well. IMO the new sub is more elegant and little bigger if you hold them together. The new Sub wears more comfortably and the hands size is a big plus too. The accuracy is not what I experience. For example my 116710BLNR(Batman) reading is 0.00 sec for two days and my new Sub is -0.5 sec.
