    This is my favorite Rolex. Bravo for being different, for having the balls to juxtapose fun with stodginess. That is exactly what will make this watch an all-time classic. A tinted crystal and lightning bolt hand. Come on. How cool is that? How daring and beautiful. I applaud this one.

    • @johnnyennis9864
      @johnnyennis9864 Před 2 lety +5

      Yeah, I think he just hates the look of this watch, and can't seem to justify the cost based on his own experience and reviews. I know very little about luxury watches, and have never experienced one. I simply enjoy learning about movements, and the associated brands, as I hope to one day own a modestly priced automatic that fits not only my budget, but suits my appreciation for mechanical and aesthetic design. I'd like to know as much going in as I can before taking the plunge. The first time I saw this watch I thought it was beautiful. I like the colour scheme, and the green glass. Some may say that's a sign of my lack of experience/knowledge. Still, I appreciate the visual reference to the origin piece, and the original purpose of the 6541. It offers a slight variation to available Oyster aesthetics. Is it worth the price jump? I'm not sure. Is it the worst watch? Heck no!
      I'm typically not a fan of Rolex watches (not that I could ever afford one), but for some reason I enjoy the look of this model.

    Not that I'll likely ever have the funds for one, but the Milgauss is literally the only Rolex watch I'd ever actually want to own. The magnetic shielding, the story behind it's design, and not to mention the crystal is one of my favorite colors, and this watch just looks cool to me.

  • @fuckinmetal1982
    @fuckinmetal1982 Před 5 lety +285

    Everything you mentioned about this watch, making it "the worst," is exactly what i feel makes it great. Rolex rarely deviates from their tried and true formula and when they do it's a breath of fresh air. They are always so serious with their designs and seeing something a bit different from them is what makes this a true collectors piece in my opinion. If i had the financial means, i'd buy one right now.

      The watch design was done by breaking Rolex’s own “rules” of elegant and sober design, so to speak. In this, it’s the worst of its own kind. It does not follow a straight line - it breaks it! No such a thing can be named “better” or even “good”. Than, it’s “the worst”.
      But than, that’s precisely the point. Sometimes, what our emotional guts want is to see the line or “perfection” broken!

    After years and years of searching and planning I found this to be my perfect watch. I've had it for years now and it never ceases to make me happy. I wear it every day an it's so unassuming that it's like a secret luxury that almost no one knows I have. I have had maybe 2 people (clearly Rolex-knowledgable) comment on it. I bought an Apple watch a bit ago and that lasted about a year before I abandoned new tech for old tech and my Milgauss was back on my wrist. As others have noted, the commentary you made is exactly why this watch is so fantastic. Yes, it's very odd for a Rolex. Yes, it's a weird mix of colors. Yes, it's got no real practical advantage over an Oyster Perpetual (I don't plan on wearing this near an MRI machine). So is it the worst watch ever? Not on this wrist it isn't.

    I mean, I appreciate the details of the Milgauss such as the green crystal and polishing on the bezel and bracelet. While it is similar to the Oyster Perpetual, I think the engineering and cool factor that comes with the electromagnetic shield makes up for the $3,000 price differential. I would be far more mad if I purchased a carbon Richard Mille only to realize I paid for a house and got a plastic watch.
    All being said, I hope this video drives down the prices of the Milgauss on the grey market because the purchase would feel so much sweeter near entry level Oyster price.

    Funny enough, these are all the reasons why i love the milgauss. Its my favorite rolex because its different from typical rolex. The green sapphire is unique and its totally unnecessary. They did it "because we can". The lightning bolt hand is quirky and fun. Its the rolex im willing to sit on a list and wait for. Its not practical. Omega watches are significantly more gauss resistant. The OP is thinner and cheaper. But the milgauss is unique and its just not like everything else you see.

    2:13 'So what is it that makes the Milgauss worthy of the title.'
    Really? Worse than a Hublot that start at around £10,000?
    2:21 'There are three reasons why the Rolex 16400-GV could well be the worst watch ever.'
    Again. Worse than a Hublot that start at around £10,000?
    2:57 'It's not too (the Oyster) dissimilar to the Milgauss which aside from the addition of a magnetic shield around it's similar calibre 3131 doesn't actually offer any additional benefit technically. Yet somehow, the Milgauss costs objectively £2000 more.'
    How many other watches apart from the Bremont MBII, Omega Seamaster, IWc's Ingeniuer can withstand 1000 gauss? None of which are cheap.
    4:06 'The watch is objectively restrained...And then it isn't.'
    That might sound like a cool soundbite but it doesn't make any sense.
    This is a unique watch with the anti-magnetism property which is a rare feature in watches and the blue dial is awesome in my opinion.

    Seriously, the watch looks very nice, has a tiny touch of fun with the second hand and offers a very good resistance to magnetism that we all suffer at airport security check. I understand it’s not the best or the coolest of Rolexs but frankly it’s a cool watch and doesn’t deserve that surprising video

    I don't think he bashed the watch at all. Did you see the video until the end? His reasoning is that sometimes, even if something is called or deemed objectively bad, or ugly, or whatever, it doesn't keep it from being appreciated, seeming unique and ultimately working out. Like acquired taste. I might have been naive, but whatever negativity existed went away at the end of the video.
