My 84 720 KC is still running strong at 247K miles. Granted, I have replaced parts when needed, but the nice thing about these trucks is that they are easy to work on and parts are surprisingly cheap and readily available at most decent auto parts stores.

Dude nice. A couple months ago I got a 1984 Datsun king cab pickup 4x4. I got super lucky. My friend actually found it but he can’t drive stick so I bought it. And it’s been the funnest project. It already has upgraded 31” tires and a Webber carburetor. Just about everything works. I’ve had so much fun replacing old parts like the slave and master cylinder, cv boots, brake lines. Interior. New stick bushings and shocks/ struts. Removed gas tank cleaned up rust. New electric fuel pump and filter. New led lights. The list goes on. Planning on putting a 3” body lift. It’s been real. Off roading has been awesome

Then power wash the bottom the wheel wells and the entire suspension front and back before repeating on the opposite side of the car. Then I could work underneath without worrying about rust cutting me up or getting in my eyes. All the best Mike

Back when Nissan was making better vehicles than Toyota. I was told that when these trucks entered the US they were classified as cars since they were built on a car platform/frame and that the beds when installed here and reclassified as trucks. This was done to circumvent the Japanese truck limit allowed here to protect the small US truck market

I had a 1985 720, these trucks were basically indestructible other than rust (and sometimes the motor would eat head gaskets, but mine never did). Very tough little buggers. They would literally haul anything you could fit inside the box and laugh it off. Obviously with 100hp and 132lb-ft toque (though the torque curve was basically FLAT) they werent tow rigs, but they would still attempt to pull anything you hitched to them and in many cases would succeed. I towed many big land yachts around with mine, lol!
You basically drove it wide open everywhere and it simply wouldn't break 😂
The Z24 engine was stupid overbuilt and with the restrictive smog head you simply couldn't blow it up. Put a rock on the gas pedal in neutral and it would rev to about 7000 if I remember correctly but it still wouldn't blow up. My father told me a customer ran one till it siezed from no oil after a change, they broke it free with a pipe wrench and filled it with oil, customer drove it home.
Mine still ran like new when i got sick of it (the only car this thing could beat in a race was probably a stock VW bus) and traded it. I regret that sometimes, it was a great little truck.
I believe it was still around bumping around a farm well into the 21st century....but yes, time was not kind to the bodies. I dont remember the last time i saw one on the road.

Those mid 80's nissan trucks in my opinion. The best small kingcab pickup trucks. I drove an 85 model factory lifted with a 4 wheel drive. I could not hear it when it was running idle inside or outside. The low end torque in the slower speeds, strong yet smooth for a small 4 wheel drive truck. It felt like a bigger truck in a small package. Nissan Corporation outdid themselves on that model. I thank👏 you for taking the time to save a great little power house 💪.

My dad had the 82’ version of that truck which was officially referred to as Datsun until that year. In 83’ Nissan Motor Company decided to change the name to it and own the fact they were a Japanese company. Those trucks are indestructible and really fast when tuned correctly. I remember my dad raced a bone stock civic coupe in the 90’s and left it way behind!

Dad was a union coal miner, bought one of those Nissan pickups, caught hell from all the Ford and Chevy guys, but couldn't kill that little truck.

That's funny. Ford, Nissan, Mazda, Jaguar,Volvo,Austin Martin and Kia are all tied in with each other.
Chevy,Isuzu,Toyota,Suzuki,Dawoo,Saub and Hummer are all tied in with GM.
Chrysler,Mitsubishi,Mercedes Benz,Hyanida, a chineese car and Fiat, are all tied in with each other.

@@danbasta3677Not those years, those were a homegrown nissan design
The engine was a beefed up tall deck L series with a smog head, appropriately for Nissan called a Z series engine and they are basically indestructible. Not much hp but torquey as a small diesel.
Only weak point was the factory head gasket...but a blown head gasket wouldn't stop one of these from running (the gasket blew between cyl 2 and 3 would blow betw cyl 2 and cyl 3)
