Pro tip: for the second oscillator use the BS2 Subby Saw instead of the basic shapes saw. It'll sound way thicker
Holy shit that made it so much better
If you're an fl user and dont have serum then you're in luck. (although i think most people have that plugin its amazing.)
Open ya boi sytrus.
Select default preset.
Go to the first oscillator
Move the shape knob to around 10%
Turn the freq ratio to one
Smack it into a mixer track.
High cut it
Put a wave shaper on it and just move the curve upwards.
Boom a pretty nice sub.
You can do that in ableton too but i dont see sytrus in ableton alot.
Thanks for the info! 🤙🏻
Or just 3xOsc + pitch enveloppe + wave shaper lol
Thank

" Hey I'm Coyote Peterson..."
nice sub bass you got there! One trick I learned from a certain puppet producer is to send your sub to 2 different distortion (one full, one mid frequencies only) and pan them 5 right and 5 left from the center to create some really full sounds without getting in the way of anything in the center. you can also send your kick over a bit too for that bigger thud.
I like that you've added just the right ammount of WHY do you tweak this and modulate that to your tutorials (i.e. sound design theory). Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!
You got it man! 😘
Can't wait for riot and I love the low poly heart in the cover and the sub bass is awesome
Hell yea man! ❤️🤠
Thanks for the video! Just used this bass in one of my projects and it sounds great. With out Content Creators like you, people like me wouldn't be able to create the things I create. Your time and knowledge is greatly appreciated.
Cant wait for riot! And amazing tutorial as always
Hell yea man ❤️🤠
This is just a suggestion to the channel, it would be awesome to have a short little clip of whatever sound you made showcased in a 4 bar loop or 8 bar loop, and have it completely mixed. To show off the awesome sound you made
I don't know how I haven't until now, but I'm so glad I just found your channel.
Thank u brotha u help me so much and put music production in such a good straight forward way I can understand to make dubs u a blessing dawg thank you
Thank you so much! Easily one of the best serum tutorials out here
DOPE TUT. THANKS MAN!
Just got serum and this helped a lot thanks dude look forward to watching more tutorials
Thanks man! Can’t wait to try this out : )
For sure! 🤠
Great and simple. Thanks n God Bless u! 🙂🙏
Thx i just needed thar for my next dubstep track!
Awesome man! 🤠
yoo this is actually a sick sub, much love
I always have a triangle in my sub! And often some soft clip! So this is such a great technique
Sounds great! Thanks for the tips!
You got it man!
Love your tut style, except you should really test more as you go on. It sounds like a lot of people are having trouble matching your sound, and It would really help to hear It periodically to make sure we are on the right track. Same way a chef checks the sauce to make sure It tastes good! You gotta check that sauce for us
Shocking I had to go through so many videos to find this. As I making the patch I was looking at a frequency analyzer and was so scared the first harmonic would be bigger than the fundamental.
Thanks bud, just what I needed :)
Another phenomenal tut! I love your approach to sound design and I use some of your tricks in a lot of my production. Just one thing: the background music is so distracting! I have to imagine anyone who's watching your videos is watching to learn and not for entertainment. I"m sure i'm not alone when I say that it's hard to focus and hard to hear some of the subtleties of your awesome sounds with the elevator music playing in the background. Just something to consider :) Keep up the great work, Shane! - Jon
this video is the first time i think ive heard you swear
Most of the time there isn't a reason to swear in Serum tutorials 😂
@@RocketPoweredSound keep it family friendly Shane
Great tip - thank you so much! But is there a kick transient at the start of your sound? It's not on my patch and i followed your instructions, could you show this please or have I missed something?
Thanks bro for the help!
You're lit!! 💥 thanks Shane
Thanks! 👊🏼
For the master tun in the matrix you can actually type in semitones by adding "st" in the editing field behind the number
You have to enable typable values in the global tab first ;)
1 minute in. Already liked.
Your videos are lifesavers 🙌🏽🌟
😘
Dude, thank you so much. This is sick
Awesome you like it 🤠🚀
Great tut, thank you
hey bro! I really appreciate your job, I've learned a lot from you, can I ask you to make a bass like the drop of the song Your body from Cat Dealers or Boom from Tiesto please?
I love this type of tutorials. Tip for video: uk garage deep bass or joyryde type of bass that is super deep and clean
😘
You won yourself a subscriber good sir
Brooo this video is key for those like me trying to create their own drill bass
Thanks for your tutor boy
SIMPLE CONECPTs but very useful thanks man !!!! up up and bass away!!!
thanks man!
great tutorial brother, it's all about that bass that bass no trouble
Haha hell yea dude! 🤠🤙🏻
Very good Bro
Thank you
I've been watching tutorials of this nature for years, and you are by far the best as far as presentation and all of that. I have subscribed. I am impressed. Thanks so much! This tutorial was exactly what I was looking for.
Ya, something fishy is going on here. Did the exact same thing and his is definitely different
Did you try different octaves?
Post processing
thank you man !
Mine doesnt sound anything like that
I believe the difference is in octave due to no keyboard view. I am on key E4 and have a similar sound to his with the settings of: Sub Octave: -1 | Osc A Octave: -2 | Osc B Octave: -2 | Hope this helps
same
Exactly, play with the octaves (-1, -2) of each oscillator, as his midi may be lower on the virtual keyboard than yours. For me, my midi notes were b/w C1-C2; my serum sub was @ Octave 1, sine @ Octave -1, and Triangle @ Octave -1. Hope this helps.
@@azbones2953 doesn't sounds punchy, like a kick , it's sounding like an instrument ?
I must be your keyboard octaves, what main program do you have?
I LOVE IT, FOOCK
THANK U SO MUTCH
Man, Shane was a legend, miss watching these videos when I first started. Hope he is doing well.
Shane is doing great! We miss him doing the videos too
Is there a kick drum that is also playing with your sound?? Haven't messed with ADSR and there is no punch at the beginning of the sound like yours.
Thank you Shane💜💜💜
You got it 🚀
i made a piano sound from this tutorial
really cool video 👌🔥
Thx, that was very helpfull
Hell yea Moe, happy to hear it helped ya brotha!
That hat, love it. What is a "partial tone"?
For my ableton bois out there, get a triangle wave oscillator a, sine oscillator b, make sure the phases double, compress and make sure you don’t clip. Then for post processing, maybe distort, I like a the ultra phat preset in camel crusher. Then for the magic, drag on a multiband dynamics and solo the lows. Phattest sub I’ve ever heard
Haha thatt's great! 🤠
You're a legend man, sounds dope!
Yeees thank you!!
Fo sho!
Theres a kinda similar method from Kermode by using 2 sine waves, the second on an octave up but only using the 3rd harmonic of the fundamental. You then turn random off and use phase shifting to make the peak amplitude of the wave longer which makes the sound louder to people without having to increase amplitude. Essentially fat sub, save headroom.
You are best biggest teacher. Big Subscribe from Republic of Japan
Ayyyy much love
I want to help if yours sounds different, Make sure you use Octave 2 for Sub Bass, and EQ to cut out highs and even some lows with a low shelf on EQ till it lines up with the kick. You're welcome!
do you play a kickdrum in combination? there is quite an impact whenever you play the sound, that i dont have after following the steps very closely
A bit late, but did you find out? I've got the same problem
Bruh, thank you.
Thoughts on today's tutorial? What would you guys like to learn next? ⬇︎

Fosho!
Could you please remake bass from Post Malone's "Wow"? It sounds pretty simple but I can't figure out how to recreate this.
Great tutorial as always, more entertaining than Netflix :)
i've listened to it many times and my guess is a classic triangle 808 in a higher octave than the usual + stereo imaging it + cutting the first 100hz and turning down 2db from 100 to 200
How did you make it kick so well . My initial hit just sounds like a wave not a kick ? Ive watched like 8 videos and am so confused
I'm so confused at how my sound and your sound are very different.
i have the same problem , maybe its about headphones or speakers?
probably because you should put the "unipolar" option in the matrix
@Nim Chimpsky probably you see two arrows on the matrix, you should change this to one arrow
Hello! I followed this tutorial and everything came out sounding great, however I'm having hard time getting the sub bass in tune with my track. When I use the semitone, fine, and CRS parameters in the wavetable section to change the pitch I lose the quality of the bass sound. I slapped on an ableton pitch device but I am only able to change in semitones and I can't fine tune it. Any other suggestions?
ok so noob question I assume, Im using fl and serum, and im fairly new to this whole sub bass concept but how come it sounds so much different when coming out of FL than it does while watching the video. Ive noticed this for a lot of videos, and even when listening to music on here, the weird part is (I know I shouldn't be doing it) im using beats studios which im told are bass boosted so why does the bass actually sound like bass in this tutorial but when I replicate it in FL, it sounds nothing like it?
That sub♥️
🤯😎
Hello teacher, I want the ending song of your video. It's very nice
Yo this sub knocks I like it
I'm glad you like it bro!
Merci mec 👍
❤️❤️
mine doesnt have that initial kick yours have and i can't figure out where i went wrong?
I have serum on fl studios and when I try to do what you did it doesn’t sound the same or somewhat close to your sound, is it cause it’s on fl??
how about some rhodes tutorial for serum?
You aren’t gonna get a good sounding rhoades outta serum, better off using something like lounge lizard or even a rhoades soundfont would sound better than a synthesised one in serum, you can play one sample in serum but it will be very digital
A little advice for teaching beginners and those who don't have Serum and are trying to get this sound on synths they do have - just play the sound after every tweak you make. I think it would help people a lot. Nice tut, nevertheless.
I feel like you’re in my Contemporary Literature class
Maybe 🤐
Thaaaanks
bro just take a sine wave and put some saturation on it and youre good
sick
Thanks! 🚀
Hey this is sick bro, how did you find this technique!!? I'm just wondering if like most big producers these days are using this type of thing for production...
Also have a question: Say I want another bass sound to be the prominent voice in the track, at what frequencies should I cut/blend this sub bass and introduce the main bass with all the character? Most people say 100hz below for sub, but is it like a steep cut, or..?
use ya ears
@@barfin5351 nice
@@Tyler-ko8dp ye sub hits 30-40 hz, use a freq analyser. 'bass' i.e. mids hittin anywhere from 80hz to the high end of the spectrum. kick 70-120hz, or use 2 one for low end punch and one for hi end. snare 150-250hz. most other things high passed at 300hz. use sidechaining to push lower freqs down with kick n snare. use your ears for the steepness of the cut, and use a freq analyser on the whole track to emulate the kind of tracks/genre you are creating. i would say use a low cut i.e. steeper on the kick, a shallower pass on the snare possibly, possibly not, and defo a shallower pass on the rest of the mix
@@barfin5351 I pretty much do all of this, but I'm struggling:
In a song where I will use a sub and a mid,
I will cut sub off at 80hz quite steep, then a slow slope upwards for mid bass around 150hz but they just don't gel together, I've tried changing volume mix, compressing them, removing some muddyness around the 150-200hz region on the mid bass, but nothing seems to gel the basses together. I've tried lowering the highpass on the mid bass to like 100hz but then it completely muddies up the bottom.
Then when I have a song that's primarily 1 sub bass I will add saturation for harmonics and not even eq it, just let it naturally slope off, which sounds cool, but I really can't get my mixes to gel together. I don't add space to my sub, but I try to widen my mid bass, second claps or snares, sometimes hats.
@@Tyler-ko8dp some sounds/riffs dont gel together, usually its the notes. write a tune in a key. get a graph of what notes = what hz. using pitch shift, a freq analyser and an eq for frequency attentuation make the kick and snares in key, i.e. if tack is C major, you could have 2 kicks in C and E and as well as 2 snares in same notes. the the sub note could be G (as sounds too obvious when the sub note is the root note of the chord, more intriguing when its not. also G1 = 49hz which is apparently the 'purest' sub, definitely rattles the cones : ).
Provided the mids are in key and the notes either harmonise / follow the sub's notes progression - they should gel together nicely even without eq. i often use the same notes for the mids as the sub, its just nice to have a clean sub for actual bass, and then some mids which can be distorted heavily.
the whole track should sound nice at a low volume even if u take all the mix-cleaning eq's off [especially if using sidechaining], just when u turn it up all the low end distortions become evident and muddy.
why is it on this sub patch in serum when set to a note in piano roll doesnt reflect frequceny is a different note , when i just have a sign wave with out the other osc on and sub on with out the effects its in the right key with frequency , i just switch to the frequency i want but how to i set that to the correct frequency with note with this patch.
What about an a bandpass filter EQ before the compressor to boost the fundamental of the sub? That makes it more fat right?
How about the key for the kick??? C4 C3 or C3. I tryed many all the same parameters with no result.
So unfortunately mine sounds nothing like this so I opted for the free download but it goes to a list of presets you cannot download? wtf?
then watch the tutorial again and follow all the steps
I raaaarely subscribe to ANY channels on youtube because it spams my email and shit but this video made me fucking punch that subscribe button I fucking love u man
When you put the lfo on the master pitch the center is 0%, not the bottom.
my good sir, where can i buy one of those hats? =)
there is a dang kick triggering when you show us what it sounds like?
How much will the new pack be? Sounds so sick
Still haven't decided on the price just yet, you can see Friday though 😘
@@RocketPoweredSound awesome i cant wait, it sounds soo cool
I know you try to minimize the amount of post processing in your vid but if you were to add anything what would you add? Or do you think it just comes down to preference?
There's not much post processing needed for subs, if any. The only effect I would consider adding is an EQ to make sure I'm hitting the frequencies I want.
Saturator - glue compressor
Rocket Powered Sound Makes sense. Also I think its great you brought to light the use of a triangle wave in a sub. Nobody thinks about it but the harmonics coming from a Triangle make subs super rich.
I used an RBass to get it a bit fatter :)
You have to be really careful when adding harmonics on top of your sub. The more frequencies you have closer to the fundamental of your sub, the more it will effect the phase of the sun and the less the true sub will come through on a big sound system like you find at clubs and festivals.
On point! Serum has a remove fundamental feature that’s super useful for this purpose.
Can you please help with mesto’s bass in massive? Check out his song’s intros like:”final call mesto remix” or ”mesto - tetris”
it sounds nothing alike because he has a fucking kick playing at the same time.
tnx
Why does his sub bass have a kick at the start? Trying to figure out why mine doesnt?
Where can I download? This link not contain this preset.
I just turned my computer off , ready to sleep but then i saw this norification and i was like well.. shit
Love it ❤️🤠
How do you turn down the bands on the compressor? I can’t figure it out.
Just click and drag on the black part at the end of the level meter
