    I miss the days when Nebraska would politely, but firmly, slaughter their opponent.

    Bobby Newcombe was an outstanding athlete and student at Nebraska!

    I took my Dad to this game, when it was over and we were leaving a Washington Fan, obviously frustrated, said loudly: "I can't believe we came all the way out here for that"! I kind of felt for him...a little.

    Has to be one of the most dominate wins in Solich's tenure. I loved watching Newcombe run the option, wish they could have stuck with him a little longer.

    Props to Huard, he's about the only announcer I can stand to listen to today. Never fails to mention the ass beating he took that day, lots of respect. Unlike certain other ex-quarterbacks who never had to face Nebraska and actually earn their National title. Or needed more than a little help from the officials to win. They know who they are.

    I forgot that Bobby Newcombe had a pretty good touch passing the ball. A much better touch passing than Eric Crouch. I also think that he was better at the option pitch than Crouch. Crouch always seemed to reluctantly pitch the ball--often when it was too late for a clean pitch. It's a shame that Newcombe didn't continue to develop as a QB.

      You get it. I have told many people this and they think I'm crazy. Newcombe was more talented than Crouch.

    • @tunafish1954
      @tunafish1954 Před 4 lety +2

      Would have won another one if he could’ve/would’ve pitched the ball more, crouch was a tough and talented runner, but not a pitch man. I’m not sure if he was stupid or selfish, but it did get him to the Heisman Trophy...

      @jrino1979 Před 2 lety +2

      I’ve long thought that Newcombe looked more like turner gil than anyone after Gil. Just a smooth operator with the pitch and good pocket presence. I suspect that Nebraska is 11-2 with him in 98 and plays in the orange bowl. I think Nebraska went to crouch in 99 cause they had no offensive punch- the first sign Frank was in over his head

      Bobby's injuries changed history. Great arm! Plus, DeAngelo. We went from an IB to a QB- entered offense. We've paid since.

    Florida State was awarded the team of the decade in the 90's. What a joke. FSU won 2 national titles. NU played in 4 and won 3.

      it's not a joke they owned nebraska and one of nebraska's "titles" was a shared one in which they didn't have to play Florida St. they played tennessee instead

    • @JG-hb4pw
      @JG-hb4pw Před 6 lety +2

      I really don't care if they give FSU the team of the decade. We had farm boys, an option offense, and the best fans in college football - how can you realistically think of Florida State when you think of 1990s college football.
      2:26:30
      Nebraska is up 55-7 with under 7 minutes to play - Stadium is still packed.

    • @arthurvandeliegh8681
      @arthurvandeliegh8681 Před 6 lety +6

      FSU was better than Nebraska in the early 1990's but then Nebraska was better, owning the Florida teams that kept beating FSU. FSU's NC in 1993 is plenty questionable too, but Nebraska was clearly the best in all 3 of theirs. Yes, FSU of Florida would have been a slightly tougher game for Nebraska in 1997, they destroyed Tennessee, would have beaten either of them decisively. By the way they didn't play FSU because they LOST to Florida, remember? Just like we destroyed Florida who beat FSU that season too. That said, I really don't care who they call the team of the 90's.

    I miss the option so much. It was different and teams always had a hard time stopping it. When they fired Solich and the Huskers went to the same offense everyone else runs and they have sucked since.
    Hopefully they give Frost time to change things around.

      Frost is trash and has done nothing to bring back this style of play. They are not very physical under Frost and they are not a run oriented team. More soft spread garbage. They can't fire Frost fast enough imo

    As much of an ass-kicking as this was, it was interesting to watch Frank Solich and Jim Lambright face off. Both started their head-coaching careers in similar situations and were fired because they couldn't match the success of the legends they replaced.

    It's funny that Gary Danielson predicted what they would eventually do the the eastern portion of the stadium over 15 years in advance.
    Also "call your cable or satellite company for games on pay-per-view." I'm so glad there aren't PPV games any more. Yeah certain games are on ESPN+ or whatever that you need some sort of subscription to, but beats paying 30 or 40 bucks for one game that wasn't a good enough matchup to even get picked up by one of the cable networks back in the 90s and 2000s.
