Though I had a few frustrations with S2 of HOTD, I still believe it's a great season and is being massively overhated by fans at the moment. I understand the pacing complaints and I agree with them to a certain degree, but I think that we'll look back on this season more fondly after seasons 3 and 4 because of the payoff I am expecting them to provide with this season which helped to build it all up.

Fans are comparing the finished product of GOT to the progress of HOTD and it's completely unfair to the show. Season 2 was pretty good even if the finale left people "unsatisfied"
I kinda feel the opposite of excited. The deterministic dream stuff ruins the original themes of George's story and creates ptoblems that will trickle down. There's also too much stuff that has to happen next season which makes me afraid that they will rush/cut important battles.

My main problem with Season 6 is that characters do whatever they want without any consequences:
- Thorne admits to killing his Lord Commander but takes over
- Ramsay is known to have killed his father, the Warden of the North but people still support him
- Cersei blows up the holiest Sept in the kingdom, along with a dozen high profile people (the queen, the church leaders, the hand of the king, the ruling family and the warden of the South) and is crowned queen
- Sansa purposely withholds vital information from Jon about the Vale just to cause drama
That's a you problem not season 6 problem.
The Lannisters are the richest in westoros which means every kings guard is loyal to them now use your common brain, who would go against the military just because a villain tommenting everyone under the clothing of holiness got blown up 😒

@@iammiller5478I don’t exactly understand what you want to say here. If the Lannisters are so immensely powerful, then why didn’t they get rid of the high sparrow earlier? It is implied multiple times that the high sparrow cannot be acted against as he as amassed a huge following and popularity in public. He apparently wielded incredible power though not necessarily militarily. If all that is true, then why does literally nobody do anything as Cersei destroyed the church? The Faith Militant are a dangerous foe when the script wants them to be and they aren’t when it doesn’t. It’s a problem of consistency and destroys immersion.
@@lukasbusch2135 that's why you should watch a show yourself not CZcamsrs. High sparrows got the trust of the citizens and the Lannisters at that point didn't want chaos in the country. It's just like the government declaring lockdown and you asking why they never did it before. You go easy on people first before using an iron fist and that was what Cercei did, claiming power by force

Some of the criticisms are true like the dorn storyline but a lot of it are bullshit
And it had a lot of peak storyline like Jon snow, Cersei and many will disagree with me on this but this is the first time stannis storyline was interesting since season 2 my only issue with his death is that I liked his death however but played little since to the overall story on the show
Season 5 is wayyyyyyy better than season 1. If you actually disagree with this, you should visit rehab
I was going to complain about your list but then you put season 6 on top... great job my man! Blowing up the sept, battle of the bastards, death of Ramsay, minimal bad plot lines... seasons 4,5, or 6 are all reasonable choices but I think 6 is my top too!
My Ranking:
10 - GOT Season 8(pretty self explanatory)
9 - GOT Season 7(overall it's very rushed and mainly focuses on action and visuals over story telling)
8 - HOTD Season 2(Much better than season 7 & 8, but it really falls off in the 2nd half with bad logic and questionable character development)
7 - GOT Season 6(The last two episodes carry, but even then they're really flawed and every other episode in the season is just mid)
6 - GOT Season 5(This is where the cracks start to show. The last few episodes I enjoyed, but other than that this season was very slow and built up the proceeding season)
5 - HOTD Season 1(Not as good as the first 4 seasons on GOT, but is very close to that level of writing. It was a breath of fresh air after season 8)
4 - GOT Season 2(The weakest of the first 4 seasons, but still is pretty good with great dialogue and story telling. Sometimes it can feel a little slow, however)
3 - GOT Season 3(It remains consistent with great moments like Jamie's confession, Tyrion and Tywin's relationship, and the Red Wedding)
2 - GOT Season 1(It built the characters up really well and helped establish the setting of GOT. IMO this is the most rewatchable out of them all)
1 - GOT Season 4(This is litteraly peak TV. Every episode is so good, and IMO this is the best season in all of TV)

Yes could be interchangable if people love Battle of the Basterds or The Door equally.
Me dont like BoB. Nor feel impact of Door expect for that little bubble. There are no consequences from S06, like Ramsay kills his father. Becomes Warden of North. Euron kills the king, becomes one after saying to everyone he did it, same for the Castle Black. Jon being back doesnt change him.
S05 was peak for John with Voting. Killing of Janos Slynt - similar as revenge for Ned, Hardhome, bringing back Wildlings... and even though 5 mins was remaining in S05 finale, Jon's death was predictavle but still good. Writing was good unlike for S06. Tyrion was still tyrion and his journey to Daenerys was good rather than S06, whay did Tyrion do exactly? Action was great. I love Winda of winter in S06 and thats the only reason S06 is B+/B otherwise S05 carries tad bit more with B+ whole over

Great video Sean! Season 8 has grown on me when I rewatched the show for the second time earlier this year however if u give it a 0/10 I understand completely. Season 6 has issues but I don't care at all so it's still a 10 for me. Love it so much. Season 4 is my favorite season of television. Overall the show played better for me after rewatching it and GOT is my second favorite series after Attack on Titan.
Great ranking and Season 4 Is The Best Season for me. Just one of the best written and executed seasons of TV ever.

Watching Season 2 of HOTD made me realize how much we have taken the end of GOT for granted
Watching Season 8 you cannot deny its epic scale, ELITE character line up, emotional weight with everyone on the edge of their seats with heart pounding suspense. Big things happened every episode.
Season 2 of HOTD was a boring, slow burn, with sloppy writing and characters that NEVER become more interesting. The Starks were never involved, Otto Hightower, the most intelligent political piece was cast aside. Daemon had the worst season arc of any major character I have ever seen. How many repetitive conversations did we experience? Just because people are talking in throne rooms doesn’t make this a great political show. How much more set up do we need? Just to never experience payoff.
The reason people hate season 8 is because it took big risks and made decisions many fans didn’t like.
(And yes, the writing fell short at times)
Season 2 of HOTD took no risks. It attempted to be a grounded political story similar to early GOT’s seasons, but the writing was either illogical or uninteresting. What happened to the surprises? Plot twists?
They even botched the song of ice and fire prophecy.
Danny is not the prince that was promised!

This just showed me you liked game of thrones for all the wrong reasons. GoT S1-4, which are universally agreed to be the best seasons, are often quite slow paced without „big things happening every episode“

Season 6 above any of the first 4 seasons is diabolical work. S6 makes no sense and caps at a 5/10. It just tries to gain your attention by having big action sequences, without paying any attention to the story. The writing is no where near as good as s1-4

I agree with you regarding payoff and season 6 was also my favorite season with season 4 being a close second.
This is what kills me about fans they complain season 7 and 8 are rushed which I completely agree but then complain house of the dragon season 2 is to slow and the show should of only lasted 2 seasons, but let’s be honest if the show ran for only 2 seasons people would say it was rushed and needed 4 seasons you can’t win when the last 2 seasons of GOT was all battles.

I started watching GoT because it was the show that everyone loved, and not long after I started, I felt like it was declining with every season (5-8) only to end on those last two rushed seasons that were quite disappointing. I have not watched HotD as of yet and because of my experience with GoT, I'll probably wait until the whole thing is done before I decide to check it out.

@@UncleRuckus2134 I like Game of Thrones characters and stories way more than House of the Dragon. I love the first 6 seasons of Game of Thrones and have watched them more times than I can count. I know seasons 5 and 6 have flaws but I still love them just as much as the first 4 seasons.

House of the Dragon is not Game of Thrones, it’s a different show.
The last episode of hotd season 2 was really great but it felt like it was setting up the finale but then we didn't get the finale so I felt very disappointed when it finished.

I’m hoping that HotD is the opposite of GoT in that it lands the long term payoff (and learns from GoT in nailing short term payoffs). In GoT season 2 we knew that the Battle of Blackwater Bay wasn’t going to be that consequential compared to the Long Night, but it made the end of that season much more satisfying than this latest HotD
Season 3 being that low is just wrong IMO. That’s my second favorite season.

How do you feel about tv shows these days taking years between seasons? Do you think it always pays off? And do you think it makes people tap out of the show because the last season was too long ago and now you have to watch everything again to catch up before the next season?
Im not sean obviously lol but I think it's ridiculous that shows take so long. I mean there are plenty of high quality shows (lost,smallville,wear wing, X files, and more) that did double of episodes in half the time and were just as good as shows we see now. It's nonsense. 22 episodes a year has now turned into 6-10 episodes every 2 years and it's crazy.
I haven't seen game of thrones so I can't rank the seasons, but I look forward to watching your ranking
House of the Dragon season one isnt just better than season 2, it's far better and actually has more action oriented scenes in it, when you work it out (scenes that involve major confrontation and plot lurching forwards).
It builds solid bases for most of the necessary characters, has Viserys (who shines in all his episodes), builds up the tension really well and has slightly better dialogue overall.
Season 2 is like a watered down season 1, and the lack of action or pay off is atrocious. I don't think it's terrible (not like got 8), but it totally miscalculates pacing and pay off and sends two of the major characters (Rhaenyra and Alicent) on extemely boring plot arcs and kind of almost ruins their characters. Hopefully it can still be salvaged in season 3 and there is still time.

Now I really wanna see your opinion on the walking dead
I think the final season of GoT as a whole is the prime example of a story (outside of problematic writing, etc) falling under the weight of it's own complexities and ideas. Also, its probably why Martin is having issues with the final two books, because he's going to have squeeze everything left into those, but also make it clear what the story is truly about and saying. Plus, im in the circle that believes there needs to be an 8th book to finish the story properly, because look at whats left to tell in just two books
Also, the final season needed to spread out into a redone season 8, 9, and 10.
Personally I liked HOT D season 1 a lot !

Actually I have to disagree with the take on Dani. Throughout every season, she does various actions out of anger. Then, she loses one of her dragons, and watches as her best friend is killed in front of her by cersei. Not to mention, she lost a good portion of her army during the long night battle.

I just launched the video but I have something to preemptively say: The best of GoT is superior to HotD overall, and at the same time the worst of GoT is so far below the worst of HotD (or the worst of HotD is just nowhere nearly as bad as the worst of GoT).
I'll see if I've something to say after the whole video, but your opinion of the franchise is probably close to mine as you tend to be the only critic to reflect my own experiences when it comes to visual entertainment.
Anyways, we'll see.

Respect the list but Season 1-4 is just so much better written in every aspect. Season 6 only got like the 2 last episodes going for them and even those 2 episodes got major problems especially battle of the bastards

GoT is a long series I'm sure you haven't had to time to re-watch everything, I have seen the show many times I a huge fan, I do agree that the last season was rushed and underwhelming, but danny going crazy is not out of nowhere, she has been crazy the entire show, just at the end there was no one left to check her impulses! I do love your content though!!

The last few seasons deserve their fair share of criticisms but fuck me the "teleporting" complaints are so stupid. This literally happens in every show and movie even in the earlier seasons of GOT, but no one notices because there was more characters so there were more scenes in between. Yes Arya and the Hound were on the road for a whole season but thats because the plot demanded it. But then people conveniently forget characters like Catelyn and Baelish who teleported quite a lot in the early seasons. Catelyn is discussing Brans assassination attempt with Robb in Winterfell in one scene then next scene we see her she's already in Kings Landing. The later seasons have their issues but the teleporting isn't one of them.

Only watched the first season, but how is the divisiveness of the finale compared to Dexter's (either one) "ending"?
Dexter's ending was really disliked of course but with GOT it was more of how they fast tracked the whole last season to finish the story. So it felt sooo rushed for GOT. Dexter they just wrote a bad ending lol

Sorry but I don't buy what you're selling with regards to season 8. Dany's psychosis was shown throughout the show in various ways. She had 2 people roasted in their armor exactly like her father did. How is that not psychotic behavior?
She suffered 2 tremendous losses in season 8, her father and best friend.
She simply snapped.
I know most people wanted her to be the heroine but the signs were there she was going to be a tragic figure and that's what she was

However there were serious problems with the finale, I definitely agree. Logic issues.
1. The dothraki would NOT be peaceful at ALL. They would be on a rampage after Dany's death and yet we see shots of them hanging out in Kings Landing.

HOTD s2 may be “disappointing” and have issues in terms of pacing. The biggest issue being that it isnt 10 episodes, doesn’t change the fact that it is fundamentally written better than the majority of seasons 5 + 6 of thrones
^ IF.. season 3 of HOTD is as heavy on payoff as season 6 of thrones, I expect the same praise. Let’s not forget that the only good moments in season 6 were simply inevitable payoff moments while everything else is deeply flawed

I think it’s very difficult to compare the shows since they are so inherently different from each other, but in my personal opinion, I feel that HOTD is being overhated on. It certainly hasn’t reached seasons 1-4 of thrones but it’s right up there with 5+6. just me tho
