    India is the first team to win defending a total in a T20 WC knockout game since Sri Lanka's 27-run win (DLS) over West Indies in the 2014 semi-final in Mirpur. The last 12 were won by the chasing side.
    There have been 13 instances of a team winning the toss and opting to field in a T20 World Cup knockout (semis or the final), only two of which ended in defeats: WI vs SL in the 2009 semi-final at The Oval and England today.

    I'd like someone to clarify some doubts of mine.
    1. Aren't all boards aware where the semi final and final venues are before the tournament begins? Don't all boards have to sign off knowing India will play at Guyana IF they reach the semis? In any case, wouldn't teams have to plan for either Guyana and Trinidad? So its a case of Plan A & B, instead of only Plan A. Right now the discourse is that India knew the venue and other teams were clueless where in the WI the semis would take place. But considering how the second SF went, would India have played the same team with 3 spinners? Absolutely. I think Rohit went with 4 spinners in the squad, considering the weather and the fact that pitches in WI assist spinners. Not that Guyana in particular aids spinners.
    2. Secondly, this isn't the first time a team has known their semi final venue, since 1992, various teams over the years have known it as well. Why is it an issue now?
    3. Regarding the lack of a reserve day, I read that the ICC had allocated 250 extra minutes for play to take place. So if the 1st SF is a washout, they use that extra 4 hours to play the next evening. Whereas the 2nd SF, the extra 4 hours will be played later into the afternoon and evening of the same day.
    4. The only criticism I agree with is that, India didn't play any night games because of broadcasting convenience of subcontinent viewers. But unlike Eng & Aus, India along with other teams had to play in the US before heading down to the WI, so does that mean the latter teams were at a disadvantage?

    • @dm-pj7cp
      @dm-pj7cp Pƙed 2 dny

      only hosts knew their semi final venues in the past. ind is not a host but will get treated like one because they need to make it to the end stages for revenue

    • @pratiknarayanan6586
      @pratiknarayanan6586 Pƙed 2 dny

      1. Thanks for responding. Actually, Pak knew their semi final match was going to be in Kolkata last year. Barring that, I see your point. But what Im trying to understand is, how is it advantageous to the Indian team? The fixtures & venues for knockouts were announced well in advance. All teams knew the semis will be played in either Guyana or Trinidad. Yes, ICC chose to cash in on primetime subcontinent viewership. Then it was a question of which stadium was ready to host a day game. So it's not that only the Indian team knew their match was going to be held in Guyana. All the boards knew & signed off on this in advance, that IF India reach semis, they play in Guyana.
      2. Even if they hadn't played in Guyana, tactically Ind wouldn't have made any changes because Trinidad conditions weren't that different. It's not Perth & Wankhede. There too spinners would have come into play. So the argument that Ind selected a squad based on Guyana pitch conditions is rubbish. As WI in general assists spinners + it's rain hit. In Guyana playing morning matches is more difficult compared to evening matches. Neither did India play any league games there, nor was India playing matches in Guyana before the tournament.
      3.If its moral issue that teams shouldn't know their opponents or venues in advance then this WT20 tournament past few editions have been pre-seeded. So teams know who their super 8 opponents will be and where they will be playing super 8 games.
      4. I agree ideally, it shouldn't be a pre-seeded tournament. And they could have kept all day games even keeping the finances into account. But I don't agree that the tournament was rigged so that India could play the end stages.

This podcast should have been an ode to high consistent and quality performance put together by an excellent team always on intense scrutiny and expectation. India did not just qualify for the 3 finals but simply bull dozed ALL teams to get there. Now what happens on a single day face off should not deter that India beat Aus/Pak/Eng (who were T20 2021 Champions, T20 2022 Champions and T20 2022 Finalist and 2021 Semi-finalist) whilst South Africa defeated Nepal by just 1 run and Afg to get to Finals. He keeps bringing up the pitch. He fails to realise that India have changed significantly since losing in 2022. They are aggressive at the top and their middle order is loaded with big hitters. Any conditions, England will have a hard time beating India. Their batsman are one dimensional - Salt or out of form - Moeen, Johnny B. Their bowling lineup is mediocre at best. Butler, Archer and Rashid are world class, but none of their other players even make it to the India A team on current form. England can only beat India under perfect conditions for them AND if India have a bad day.

    The runs where over par i agree
    But england had the worst batting line up and missed some trick by not playing will jacks
    Only buttle was the real threat
    Rest was harry who hasn't done well in pressure especially during ipl and in india, then jhonny who is most inconsistent player and then lim who just can't play on top of that moeen the batting line up was really really bad

If India somehow manages to lose the finals, I genuinely don't know how I'll be able to see the very game I Love. After 19 November I never saw a cricket match with same Love for game. Whether England plays spin well or not is secondary. Most players on the team are out of form. Other than West Indies, they didn’t win against any top side.
    They chose to bowl first & even got a break during over 8. India needed time to re-settle twice else the score would’ve been 190+
    Let’s not make any excuses on behalf of England related to pitch, ground, schedule!!

    We as a cricketing world have been playing international cricket for almost 160 years and the britishers have been playing on Indian pitches for the same amount of period if not more(since India was a British colony), yet English players give an excuse of not being able to play spin well, it should not be an excuse, it's a weakness and if you are weak then you don't deserve to be on top let alone winning world cups...England is a below par cricketing nation that by luck has won one or two international cups..
