This was meant as a review and turned into a fiasco. It wasn't very smart running the finals at 100W. The radio is supposed to be about 40W. But I understand the v1 has bugs and glitches, and the finals are a sore subject. If the finals are so cheap and so easy to blow, maybe it needs additional cooling like an internal fan and fold back to protect them. The lack of screening of the Pi concerns me, I would imagine it creates lots of RFI ! External HDMI would be nice to use a big screen.

To be fair, 100% should be 40 watts at default and configurable in a menu.

you should always use thermal paste

  • @MaryBrownForFreedom

5 amps on TX is 60 watts input, if 60% efficiency you have 40 watts output. I wonder if there s a DC component on the output messing up the meter.
And thermal paste will make your finals live longer even if you do hit them to hard. Put some under the mica insulators and on the transistor tabs. This is a case where more is not better! Just a small amount!
$0.82 cent finals from Digikey(close to me so my go to), $0.60 from Jameco(slower shipping for me... Digikey is overnight!) so very cheap to replace. Just a pain in the butt!

Josh I always drop power under the rating of the finals by 5 to 8 watts for a buffer.

I must have missed it. How are you suppose to calibrate the power to prevent blowing the finals all the time?

Why should I buy this one instead of g90. I would appreciate your answers.

Did you go back and do the bias adjustments after you installed the new regulator and finals?

This is an important review BUT, too many giggles, to much coffee drinking and too much EGO.
Time to sit back, PLAN the presentation and give us what we need.

It’s a live show. It’s performed in front of an audience. If you see a video that tips towards 60+ minutes it’s likely not for you. Look for the ones 10-30 minutes. It’ll be more focused.
Regarding mentioned of Ego. Can you call out a specific time on the video? I don’t remember any issues 🤷🏼‍♀️

@@HamRadioCrashCourse As I said the subjects you present are important to most hams but in my mind boring due to all the lala and giggles. This is far too often the case with many presenters today who are more interested in their IMAGE than giving an intelligent presentation.
I would suggest taking a look at Dave Casler who has over 1000 issues of "Ask Dave" on Ham radio Another site is the Drone Bot Workshop where the presenter tells the viewers everything they might want to know about current electronics. Although not specific to ham radio many or his projects can be of benefit to a ham.
Both of these experienced guys produce accurate explanations of the subject without any coffee or giggles and when they are done a viewer knows he has gained the knowledge he is looking for.

They are pretty hard to get at anything near regular price, when stock rolls in they disappear rapidly! I do not live near a MicroCenter but if you do continuously check there! They post availability to internet but only sell them in stores!
