I saw an MTV interview leading up to this and the interviewer knew Gillian was new to BS but had no clue at all he was in Deep Purple.

But why couldn't have Iommi, Ward and Butler have done likewise with "Man On The Silver Mountain" during the Dio/H&H/Mob Rules/Live eviL era?

Probably cause Purple was 10x bigger than Rainbow and Smoke was a monster hit worldwide.

@@user-ks7hw7xk4k I can see that but honestly, on that first tour with Blue Oyster Cult supporting Heaven and Hell, Iommi's playing later on, on 7th Star, shows that he could have played some of that Blackmore stuff like "Gates of Babylon". Dio's back catalog with Rainbow counted as much as BS's back catalog with Ozzy.

Honestly I would be curious to see if Iommi could cross pick like Blackmore. It’s a challenging technique. Both are great and both are no joke to cover.

That’s funny. This is a deep purple tune. Ian Gillian was lead vocals for Purple ….the band that sold 100 million albums.

That's really cool! Though I think the VHS might have stretched a bit, it sounds slowed down. Change the playback speed to 1.25x and it sounds more normal, especially compared to how Deep Purple used to play it live. Not perfect, I think it's slightly too fast, but it seems better.

All the different boots are the same speed that I've heard so I think it's just the way they play it 1.25 is a bit too fast but it is closer to Purple speed.

@@joemorgan6675 Thanks for taking the time to let me know that, I'll listen to it at normal speed. Cheers

Saw this live in Madison WI and you're right-it's just a bit slow. It had that relentless drive live. This plods a bit.
