    We paused our Canadian star-link, while in Mexico fearing the same 2 month disconnection we purchased a system there during a pre-christmas black Friday like Mexican deal, that came with discounted equipment costs (1/2) and 2 months free service. The monthly 1350 pesos for standard with portability have been working great since. We left Mexico Feb 28th, used it at home in Canada, then took it on the road in the USA this summer for a month and a half.. and it still costs us 1350 pesos.(less than $80 USD). We will be using it at our Mexican snowbird local from Nov 1 - end of April again this coming snowbird season. ShawDirect TV spot beam has dwindled to the point now that once in Mexico we will rely on streaming fully... StarLink rocks for snowbirds and RV'ers...

      That's awesome! Yeah we met a lot of people buying it in Mexico last winter and we were prepared to buy a second one if our service was cut off, but thankfully it didn't. What a great deal you got!

    Hi Guys, Just came across your video which has been a great help. We have our 5th wheel in a RV park here in Ontario where there is no cell service. The resort has over the last year install a tower and have invited two internet providers to provide a services although very expensive. Although it solves one concern it doesn't help when we travel. We are planning a trip into the states this year. We both have CDN, US and Mexico cell plans. After watching this and your other videos on the topic we feel comfort that StarLink will provide a solution for both travel and parked scenarios. Let us know if you have additional insight. Cheers and safe travels. Dave and Lorilei

      Glad to hear! All I would add now is that Starlink's prices have gone up, and it doesn't work very well around trees and tall buildings. It needs clear line of sight to most of the sky to work well. So even if you have Starlink, you also want to have cell data service as a backup. Happy traveling! 📡

    Great rundown of the plans Jay. We have found that most campground WIFI's create more frustration than usable signals. And, a lot of the places we stay have cell coverage that we use via our hotspot plan. And then there are times when our cell signals are weak and we have to drive to a location to get coverage. And most of the time when that occurs, we weigh the need and generally stick around camp and enjoy the time we are not connected. I have looked at the cost of Strlink and with our travel habits and wifi needs, its just too expensive. Plus, your revelation that speeds are going down and dependent on tiered plans solidifies our decision. Thanks as always.

      @HomeARoam  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Yeah it's not the right option for everyone. We love ours and it gives us the freedom to go places without mobile signal for longer and if Jay needs to have a video meeting while we're out there, he can.

    We got ours im amaze the speed and we love camping usually that dont have cell service like chilliwack lake

      That's great! We got it for the same reason. We often find ourselves camping in remote areas of BC where there is no mobile signal at all. Happy camping!

    Great info! When they first came out, I thought what a great solution to mobile internet but the more and more I hear things like this, honestly for my use it might be cheaper to simply buy one or two US pay-as-you-go cell plans for the trips down south.
    Mind you by the time one buys a good cell booster, that's pretty much the price of the Roam hardware... hmm...tough decisions...

    • @HomeARoam
      @HomeARoam  Před 11 měsíci

      It really depends on where you plan to be. If you want to stay in mobile-scarce areas, then we think Starlink is the way to go, but for those who stay in more populated areas where mobile signals are plentiful then there are cheaper options for sure.

    Thanks for all the information. We live in Southern California, but I travel a lot to very remote areas of Baja. I just bought Starlink hardware, and am trying to figure out the right plan for my work needs. You gave a ton of helpful advice in a easy to understand presentation. If I'm in Baja a few months out of the year, probably most trips are 7-20 days, over different times of the year, depending on the surf, does standard "roam" work for me? Or do I need to get the global plan? I'd appreciate any advice taht you may have, thanks, Dave

      @HomeARoam  Před 7 měsíci

      As of right now (Starlink plans change often :) the standard Roam plan will work for you just fine. It allows roaming anywhere in North America. This is the plan we were on in Baja and it worked great.

    Hi Jason, just re-watched this episode as I need to get good Internet at the beach and at the moment the only option is Bell and they’re terrible. I was looking at the residential that you talked about, but you can’t shut it off and I’m only there six months of the year. So I looked at the Roam and you said it’s slower speeds. Just curious how slow? The good thing is you can pause that one. The other problem I have is that there are lots of trees around the cottage if you remember. So I was wondering, do you think that if I built a towerover the trees that then it would work? Thanks for your input.

    • @HomeARoam
      @HomeARoam  Před 5 měsíci

      No problem about getting the Roam version that you can turn on and off seasonally. The speed should be just fine, except as you mentioned, the trees. Trees are Starlink's nemesis. You'll definitely need to find a way to get it above tree level to have decent service, regardless of the plan.

    I’m having issues that they’ve just cut off both my starlink that’s on a regional plan in the same continent, I need help, I’ve texted their customer service haven’t gotten no reply at all. Pls

      @HomeARoam  Před 2 měsíci

      They both just stopped working? That's really strange. Make sure you've tried all of the regular troubleshooting first of course, but then unfortunately all you can do is wait for customer service to respond (and they are typically not super fast). 😟

    I can't find the best effort plan?

    • @HomeARoam
      @HomeARoam  Před 9 dny

      Hi there, Starlink has changed their plans since this video. Their standard plan now is effectively best effort and you now need to pay a premium for guaranteed bandwidth.

      Starlink is definitely complicating things as they develop their systems and more and more people buy it.

    • @carolnavan4137

      Starlink has s not currently profitable, it is costing the parent company money to operate. The main shareholder and CEO (my opinion) is certifiable! Add that to the fact that we have already destroyed much of our planet with pollution and this company is contributing greatly to a relatively new type of pollution.....yeah no........not for me.

    I would get starlink for my rv but not at that price , im sure many think the same , if you asked 100 people if they would pay 150 or more , im sure the answer would be low , but ask the same people if they would pay 60 and the answer would be a lot higher , would probably be more dollars generated , lets not get greedy Musk ....

    • @HomeARoam
      @HomeARoam  Před 28 dny

      Yeah, it's expensive for sure. But they also still have limited capacity. I'm sure as they get more satellites up there and capacity grows, the cost will come down.
