Ep. 167 | Is 640 Resolution Worth The Money?!

  • čas přidán 14. 07. 2021
  • A common question when it comes to thermal rifle scopes a if 640 high resolution is worth the extra money compared the standard 384 and 320 resolution optics. Hans and Jason have discussed this 2 years ago on the podcast but decided to revisit the topic because of the improvements in technology in recent years and because the question continues to arise. We hope this show helps answer some of those questions for you.

    *** Why Hunt Hogs? ***
    Our journey into wild/feral hog hunting started like many others living in rural communities. We didn't start hog hunting for fun or sport... we did it because we had to. You see, hogs cause millions of dollars of damage and destruction each year in rural communities and our situation was no different. Hogs were destroying our land and that our of friends and family. The vast majority of hunting stories that you hear about on this channel are hogs, boars and sows, taken from family land... this problem is personal for us...
    __________________________________________________
    *** Why Hunt Coyotes and Predators? ***
    Coyotes and Predators, similar to hogs, cause financial stress for many families in rural communities. Coyotes kill livestock, plain and simple. Ranchers have battled coyotes killing cattle since the early days of ranching and it costs them dearly. Cattle ranching is a business, the cows aren't pets, every time they lose a calf to a coyote those families lose a paycheck. Cattle ranchers hate coyotes just as much as Farmers hate hogs! We hunt coyotes to protect the livelihood of our friends and neighbors that depend on their cattle business to feed their family...

    If you ever visit this discussion again you might want to suggest people view it on different resolutions under the quality settings. Say watch the video under 720p and then again under 360p. Not a perfect comparison but it will get the message across. Perhaps even use an example with base magnification and two different scopes one with 640 and the other with 384.

    I eat, live, breathe night vision and it's great to listen to true professionals who know the industry and technology. I am seriously looking at thermal clip on, possibly the AGM TC35 but I haven't seen any reviews. I'd appreciate your feedback if you all had the chance to test it out. Thanks!

      @@jeremypresgrave1488 I have not but you will not be disappointed with the XQ50. It is a great scope if you hunt mostly coyotes. With new lens I am sure it will be even better than my current model. If you buy from a good dealer they will let you check the scope image before you mount it and then exchange it for XP if you are not happy.

    • @outdoorlegacy
      @outdoorlegacy Před 3 lety +5

      We accept trade ins BUT we tell everyone you will be way, way ahead selling it yourself. We don’t have a large market for used thermals since people come to us for new scopes, so it takes us way more work and time to sell a used one. We also have to cover the credit card fees, shipping and insurance when we sell the used scope and we have a lot of risk in guaranteeing the scope for a certain period of time for the new buyer. We’ve been burned with Murphy’s law of defective used scopes on multiple occasions. It takes us 10-15 more used sales to break even on that one. The margins are just so thin. With that said, you can sell it yourself for 15-20% more than what you’d get from us. While we do take trade ins I tell every customer they will be far better off selling it themselves. I hope they makes a little sense.👍🏼

      @kingrider75 Před 2 lety +2

      Same here. Not trying to discourage anyone from spending the coin because the 640 will deliver a better image without a doubt. But as a coyote hunter the Rattler 384 resolution has never made me feel like my buddies had an advantage on me as far as shots at critters. People need to spend more time deciding magnification needs in my opinion. If your shooting 350 yards you obviously want to look at scopes with a higher base magnification

    • @TheLateNightVisionShow
      @TheLateNightVisionShow  Před 3 lety +4

      Our opinion is if you’re going to have a 640 it needs to be in your scope and 384 in the monocular. Reason being, you want the very best image quality possible when your finger is on the trigger and you’re about to send one down range. If you miss identify with a monocular it costs nothing but when the lead goes down range a mistaken ID can be terrible. Just our 2 cents!
