  • This video is a windshield tour of several forest service roads around Platoro, Colorado, a summer community in the Conejos Valley of the South San Juans. Platoro is 25 miles from the nearest pavement and is mainly accessed by Forest Service Road 250.

    50 seconds in. The lil shop on the left. Absolutely the nicest little old lady works there. Stop in there every year to grab forgotten items and local flies!

      Thanks for watching and leaving your comment. I totally enjoy visiting the South San Juans, and the Conejos River in particular, on my summer trips out to Colorado. For a flatlander, it's a good location to acclimate and prepare myself for volunteering with the Colorado Trail Foundation when working at higher elevations. BTW, I've been a subscriber of your channel for a while now.

    Nice video. Thanks for checking out my adventure to The Winds. How do you like the FJ? I wish Toyota did not stop making them in 2014. New Sub👍

      Thanks for the sub! I've really enjoyed the FJC! It's got 202,000 miles on it, I've maintained it according to the owner's manual and it's really given me good service. It's ready to hit the road to Colorado in a couple of weeks with the ALiner in tow. The only way I'd trade it is if Toyota was still making them; I would like some of the technology and safety refinements Toyota has added to their other vehicles like the 4Runner.

    Hi John, I really enjoyed your video. How far past Stunner CG did you go ? I am making the same excursion this July and your videos have been a big help in planning for my excursion.

      Thanks for watching the video and leaving your comment and question. I'm glad the videos are helping you get prepared. That whole area of the South San Juans is one of my favorite destinations in Colorado. If you aren't aware, I have some other videos I posted on my main channel, John Eagerton, that you may find helpful too. Hope you'll sub both channels. On this trip, Stunner is as far as I went. On previous trips however, I've gone all the way to Del Norte and Highway 160. Depending on your plans I'd suggest picking out a route that suits you and go all the way to 160. There's some gorgeous meadows and mountain scenery in that area. And plenty of places to boondock if you plan to do some car or trailer camping. One bit of advice, give yourself plenty of time 'cause you ain't gonna wanna leave. Have a great trip.

      Thanks John , I think I have watched almost all of your videos thanks to a suggestion from Carl Ochino. Carl has been helping me plan for mid-July, one week in Creede and one week in Platoro. You both have been a great help in coordinating my excursion. One question I have is how far is the Hidden Mile trailhead from Platoro , I can't find it listed anywhere ? Please keep up the good work !

      @@rjf1877 Thanks!! I'll have to send Carl my thanks too. Hidden Mile to Platoro is about 15 miles +/- a few. Drive time can take anywhere from about an hour or so to all day if you pull over and take in the scenery, hike some side trails or do a bit of fly fishing. Also, the road can be rough at times but when I was out last summer the County is now back to keeping the road graded and it was in good condition. Again, glad to hear the videos are helping you plan your trip out. Safe travels!

    How’s the fishing on the other side of the Platoro Res?

      Thanks for checking out the video. I've seen some fair reports of fishing the Three Forks area above the resevoir but I didn't have much luck in those streams.

    Awesome video! Im curious to know do you have to drive over a pass to get to Jasper from Platoro taking FS 250?

    • @DrJohn493
      @DrJohn493 Před rokem +2

      Thanks for watching, commenting and the question. I've never driven FS 250 all the way to Jasper so I'm not sure about a pass being involved but just looking at the map, it doesn't appear to be the case. In all my visits to the Platoro area over the years I've only travelled up toward Del Norte via Summitville on several ocassions. You should enjoy the area.
