      Yes, it would be great to have 10,000 of them shut down a freeway and rail corridor and just stand there for a week while humans starve or run out of energy.

      You can see them anytime at Yellowstone national Park. It is wonderful. If you get there about April, you will see some actually being born. In the dead of winter, you will see them pushing snow with their heads to get to any green plant hidden in the snow. You might even see a wolf pack hunt down a bison.

      Wild herd animals will often times force a young vulnerable animal out and wait to see if it's safe to proceed, deer do it all the time.

    Growing up in Texas we often leased a field of wheat to a cattleman for his young feeder calves. Whenever we unloaded a truck load of calves they would first walk the entire perimeter of the field, checking the fence. Once they had checked the entire fence (often 3 miles total) then they would start grazing. Do your bison do something similar?

    Wow!! Just look how your ranch & animals have changed in a year. Lots of blood, sweat & tears went into it to make it the awesome ranch it is today. Some of those buffaloes have moved on but you have added a lot more. Congratulations on your (lil peace of heaven).

    60 years ago Americal stock farmers thought that Australian farmers were crazy using dogs to handle large animals. Now you are using a Blue Heeler, a breed from Australia. I have seen lots of videos with these dogs in America. Finally sense has prevailed. Good on you.

      Calm yourself, roo puncher...
      About 1 minute of research has taught me that herd dogs have been around for close to 10000 years, many of those animals, being quite large in stature...
      Are you sure you're not confusing the size of Australian herd dogs versus the practice of actually using herd dogs?

      @@codymoe4986 Not confusing size or how long herd dogs have been used.
      Just that USA cattlemen were very dismissive of using such dogs.
      Australian dogs tend to be of medium size due to a hot climate. There is a development where Border Collies are becoming smaller.

    For millions of years bison roamed the prairies. When the Europeans first got to North America, the bison herds were so large that they would fill the horizon. Millions of bison, roaming free in their multitudes. Beautiful, majestic creatures.

      You have the sliding mangate at the back and you run them in up a narrow alley, we use to run a 100+ head herd up in northern Alberta. You need the proper facilities to handle these guys.

    I can't believe all those bison were in that one truck! Wow! Awesome to see them unload. I once had a bison at a drive-thru wildlife park stick his head right by my window and let me pet his face. It was so rare an opportunity. (Of course, we had food to give him, so he was motivated!) :^)

    I’ve here’d cattle and loaded a lot of trailers with cattle, I will never do either with bison. They have a mind of their own and go about anywhere they want to go.

    I had a bison farmer tell me that the bison love eating rough old dead grass that cows won't touch. I bet they'll fix that overgrown field up fast!

    My question is - who drew the short straw to get the bisons into those FRONT compartments, and then stay there while the gate was being closed? I think that I’d tie a rope onto the gate, and run it out of the far side of the trailer. A yank on that could close and latch a gate.
    Safer than getting into the trailer with those big fellas, you betcha!
