stefan cocker, that is true plus they put a full page thank you to Joe about this performance. Ringo sang it on the Sgt Pepper's album but nothing like Joe did. Joe's version was full of soul. Leon did the arrangements for this tour. I got to see them at their first show in Detroit. They brought down the house. Literally, they almost brought down the balcony.

@@chlynn13b92 WOW thank you so much for that info. Did not know that. Brilliant to find out any fans memories about him. It keeps him remembered, treasured and loved. One story I've got. My dad was driving me home from university via Sheffield. As we got into the steel city it was snowing like Yorkshire can. Dads car broke down. As we are making our way on foot to my nan's house. We passed where Joe grew up. For whatever funny reason, bare in mind Joe probably hadn't lived there for some 50 some years. My dad started to pelt it with snowballs and I joined in. As we ran away laughing. Asked my dad what was all that about. He said it reminded him when he was young growing up with Joe and doing that as they did when they were kids 😊

Billy the dog - Haven't you ever noticed when people sing in English, you can hardly ever hear their usual accent? Sometimes a little bit comes through, but the majority of time everyone sounds American. I actually looked this up once and the explanation involved using American vowel sounds and rhoticity which is pronunciation of Rs differently than in England where Rs are often dropped. The article I read also talked about singers trying to imitate original songs, but that doesn't make sense to me because then US artists would be sounding like Brits if that's where the song originated. The other explanation is that regional dialects get lost because intonation is superseded by melody, vowel length by duration of eac note and vocal cadences by a song's rhythm which makes the most sense to me. Not exactly a fun fact, but I always wondered why someone like Adele loses her native accent when singing or Keith Urban sounds country and not like Australian or New Zealander when he sings for example.

To most rock fans, myself absolutely included, Cocker's arrangement and gut wrenching performance turned a goofy little McCartney throwaway or space filler, into a classic, powerful rock anthem, with all the energy, soul, and passion one could ask for.
