    I'm a Professional Pilot Flying the world's biggest Jet. I just collected my 43 B01 Navitimer. I love it. Perfect watch for flying. Reminds me of days of my flying career, where we had to use the slide ruler, we used to hang it on our collar, and had to do calculations on the fly. Wish I had such a luxury watch those days.. In todays modern age of jet flying its more of a piece to have on your wrist to feel those precious days which you had spent learning the art of flying. I've always felt the Navitimer has a far more iconic design than either the Speedmaster or Daytona. And far from detracting from the impact, the complexity and busyness of the dial actually adds to the appeal for me. It's just so well balanced and fun, even though the slide rule will remain an enigma in perpetuity ... because I just don't care. What I care about is emotional impact, and the Navitimer provides that in abundance. And that includes the new models. A little expensive perhaps (like all Breitlings), but a fantastic watch nonetheless. I think if Breitling priced their watches closer to Omegas and Tudors they would be more popular and successful. After all, they certainly have the designs to dominate the others in my view.

    Just pulled the trigger on a Navitimer, my first luxury wrist watch! Ended up going with the 43mm black dial with gold wings, the AB0120 from two generations ago. Should be arriving this week in the mail and I could not be more excited. Most will disagree but I've always thought the Navitimer had the coolest loooking dial in all of watchmaking due to its slide rule. I will say I'm not a huge fan of the new models though, I don't like most of the new colors aside from the black 43 and white 41 models but not a fan of the blue, ice blue, green or mint green ones. Too playful for a serious watch like this in my opinion. Also I really don't like how they removed the tachymeter scale and the new ones just don't look the same to me because of that.

    • @attila2246
      @attila2246 Před 2 lety +1

      You can replicate the tachymeter quite easily with the slide rule so I don't mind that too much. Think it helps modernise the dial a bit by making it cleaner but I can understand why some people aren't a fan. My gripe is that the slide rule isn't angled as steeply, the watch looks a bit shallower. Still incredible to look at and wear though.

    Among pilots, we have some grail watches. The Navitimer is one of them, together with GMT Master II and IWC Pilot Chronograph. When someone is promoted as a Captain, is a tradition to get a nice watch. As now the GMT Master II is out of reach at retail price, and lost a bit the aviation related spirit, becoming more a fashion watch for travellers and non travellers, this ice blue Navitimer will be a strong contender to Rolex. I've never considered Daytona a pilot watch. Is a nice chrono, a bit overrated in my opinion. As an "honourable mention" I would say now the Tudor BB GMT is becoming very popular among pilots community, as it gives the same robustness and function of the Rolex, without having headache or concerns while working around the planet.

I like them from far but the plastic looking black dial really could be refreshed imo. That’s where Rolex Daytona is the best imo, they don’t try to stick as close to the original design which allows them to make the watch which delivers the qualities of better everyday wearer (for example water resistance and simpler look), that’s how such watches end up on wrists of famous people in the end of the day.

    Speedy is a good watch and all, but why we have to all have the same tastes in the watch hobby? Feels like that sometimes. I've always preferred the Navitimer.

    We use the Citizen now. GMT is important, but in yacht management, fuel conversions are much more common, especially in the Caribbean. Love the old Navi hands down, still use one.

    Drives me mad that the finish is so high in almost every respect, but every time the seconds hand sweeps over the mirror finish of the other hands, you see how badly the underside of the seconds hand is finished, not a big one to fix Brietling…!

    I would need the 41mm variant to fit my tiny wrists. But the mint green color model (and this watch in general) looks astonishing. The price and lack of good water resistance is what puts me off though.

    My first love will always be my Hesalite Speedy, but I’ve found myself googling Navitimers more and more in the last year or two. They really do have the equivalent legacy and, dare I say, beauty of design. I’d probably rate Daytona behind an Apple Watch.

    Why don't high end watch makers polish both sides of the hands? Your buying fit and finish yet most makers don't finish the underside of the hands. With the mirrored finish of the top side, you can see the ugly underside of the top hands off the reflection. It bugs the hell out of me.

    I love that ice blue iteration - however, having an actual pilot in the family ( niece!) I would feel a fraud wearing one of these!
    I also think the 43mm diameter is slightly too big for my delicate little wrist - certainly find myself marvelling at it though?
    I'm old enough to remember slide rules, some of the posh kids had one in their pencil cases at school.
    Luckily, chunky pocket calculators were just emerging - took an AA battery by the way - so, saved the day for me!

    Find out the Sinn 903. In 1978 Helmut Sinn bought the rights and lots of movements from that time bancrupt Breitling company. The 903 provides in many versions same iconic design, but is far ahead in tech details for even half the price of the Breitling.
