His name is David Gilmour. Though the list changes over the years, he's often listed as one of the 10 greatist guitarists of all time. He's also one of the primary vocalists of the British band Pink Floyd (NOT a person). They are as you'll soon discover should you continue down this road, a life-changing form of the music lyrics and production that knows no equal. They are their own musical genre. You're definitely going to want to check out the live Pulse version of 'Comfortably Numb' from 1994. Also check out the studio version of "Time". Enjoy the ride!!

They really did develop many new ground-breaking techniques. Come to think of it, if you want innovative production, you could always look at (listen to!!!) some of the later albums of The Beatles.

Pink Floyd was formed in England in the 1960s. The original members were Syd Barrett, Roger Waters, Nick Mason and Richard Wright. Syd Barrett eventually left the band in 1968 due to increasing mental health issues and was replaced by David Gilmour on guitar. Syd Barrett was the first visionary of the band and it was difficult for them when he left (he inspired many of their songs). Meanwhile, David Gilmour became known for his haunting lead vocal and fiery guitar solos, as you have experienced here. I also recommend listening to the live version of this song from the "Pulse' concert in 1994. Pink Floyd live is on another level!

Get comfortable, turn down the lights, get some good headphones, crank up the stereo and close your eyes, and take in the full story of “Pink” and his descent into madness. “Comfortably Numb” is just one chapter of this story; there are many others just as savory.

Nice job Silent NytTube. A correction though, there is no one named Pink Floyd, it's the name of the band. One of the founding members of Pink Floyd had two American Blues guitar players from the 1920s and 1930s as inspirations, they were,... PINK Anderson, and FLOYD Council. Thats how their name came about.
There are two rules Pink Floyd fans observe when listening to Pink Floyd, one is always wear headphones,... good for you for doing that. The second rule is, never, ever, EVER pause a David Gilmour guitar solo! LOL! He is a guitar god!
Pink Floyd was formed in London in 1965, they were performing until 2006. They have sold over 400 million albums world wide, more than any other band in Rock history, with the exception of The Beatles.
Pink Floyd was/is a Legendary Rock band, they are known for their extended compositions, sound and sonic experimentation, deep philosophical lyrics, detailed and intricate live performances with light and lazar shows. They became the leading band of Progressive Rock genre and the GOAT in Progressive Rock History!
They are in the top 3 greatest Rock bands in Rock & Roll history! Legends.

Really enjoyed your video. There's a ton of good content on that particular album and clearly a lot of people interested in seeing a younger person's take on content that they are very familiar with. There's a deep well to draw from the late 60s to mid 80s that are still listened to today by multiple generations. I think you're on the edge of something great. Good luck!!!

Many say it is the most powerful emotional guitar solo ever done....I agree. I have seen David Gilmour and "The Floyd" live 4 times. I met David Gilmour in 1984 back stage at a concert in Hollywood Calif. He gave me a signed album that I have in my music room. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know

It's pretty crazy you mentioned Prince when the first solo came in. When Prince died while David Gilmour was on tour, he morphed the ending solo of this song into Purple Rain. Both songs are in B minor.
