  • Camtasia 2022 is here. I show you what's new in Camtasia 2022 in this in-depth video. I walk through all the new Camtasia 2022 features I could find and analyze them in detail, showing you what's exciting, what's so-so, what's completely new or what Techsmith has built upon and expanded from the previous versions.
    Camtasia 2022 includes an impressive new library with 1000 new assets, among many other things. I've seen some features I requested from a while ago as well as some new ways to achieve cursor animations. Camtasia now includes tighter integration with Audiate and makes it worthwhile for roundtrip workflows for your audio cleaning, effects and then back into Camtasia.
    I've taken Camtasia 2022 through its paces over the last couple of weeks and I've edited all of my new projects in it. It has been stable (apart from a couple little bugs), and performance-wise it seems an improvement. I was able to edit this entire video you are watching now, in Camtasia 2022 from start to finish.
    Check it out, chapters are below if you need to jump to different sections. Apologies for the long video.
    I'd love to hear in the comments what you think of the new Camtasia 2022 release, whether you consider it's worth upgrading or not.

    I have been looking forward to this video for days! Thanks my friend. As well as objects on a path, other things missing for me was not being able to create a click animation when creating a new path other than dropping a library item and pulling in external audio. Seems a solid miss. Also I was really hoping for a polygon tool to create custom masks or shapes.

    Thanks for (as usual) the great video! I just watched the Techsmith video "Understanding Blend Modes." They ran through all the blend modes at light speed and my brain is fried. I'm sure there may be times when I might want to use a blend mode, but I (maybe all of us!) need a guru like you to do videos on each blend mode and show us practical applications for each one. If anybody can do it, I'm sure you can! Thanks again for the great instruction you give us on getting the most out of Camtasia.

    • @Graphicious
      @Graphicious  Před 2 lety

      Glad it was helpful! I am still watching the blend modes video from Techsmith. It's a good and comprehensive one but I pause a lot. I kind of know the theory but Clint (I think) speaks quite fast in this one. I do like the blend modes in Camtasia, they open up a lot of possibilities, but while they are powerful, they can be a little intimidating and it takes experience to figure out which one would be best used in a specific situation or for a particular desired effect. Blend modes have existed in a lot of programs for many years (Adobe Photoshop, Premiere, Affinity, etc), and I admit, at first, I was just poking in the dark, selecting them randomly until I saw something I liked.
      I'll think of some cool examples for them and see if I can break it down into more digestible videos.

      Thanks for sharing! I think there are some good features in this one, but I believe the biggest improvement before these was the Media Matte in 2021. I love that and I use it all the time. As for the transcription with Audiate, it's good that it integrates with Camtasia, but on its own, it doesn't yet do enough for me. I do everything in Descript ( cotovan.com/descript ) for transcriptions, audiograms, social media clips, podcast editing and subtitles for my CZcams videos.

    Thanks, Christi! I am watching all the Camatasia 2022 videos, and yours is a good one. Everyone touches lightly on the BLEND modes (and Camtasia has a more technical treatment), but I would still love additional instruction on how to use this exciting feature. I do not have a technical background in video production or graphic design, and so some of what's happening to the pixels and colors in the blended images is beyond me. I don't necessarily need to scientifically understand what's happening (which is what Camtasia's longer video on the topic aims for), but to grasp the potentials of each variation so that I can deploy them in my creative arsenal, so to speak. If you could walk us through some of the basic applications of BLEND mode, I'd be thrilled (e.g. as you demonstrated its use in two layered videos and with a video and text). Sorry, I know making a video is a big request. Many thanks, Jenna
    P. S. Hearing you talk about Camtasia not traditionally allowing "organic" and layered effects, like in PhotoShop or After Effects, was very interesting to me as someone who has not come to video-making via those other programs. So, I learn a lot from you just by your decriptive reflections of Camtasia and other tools. I am just pointing out how your viewers probably come from different levels of experience and professional background. (I am a professor of library science, not a designer or video-maker, but am trying to hone the craft.)

    Thanks so much for the overview. For me there is jaringly very little new and I was already frustrated last year, but god damn now the think of it the group tabs and favourites were hundred times more useful for me than any new stuff from this year. I got excited for the custom paths, just to found out it only applies to a bloody cursor. Nevertheless Camtasia still fills my needs for the video editor. It just sad to see there was so little improvement after a year of silence. Great job on your video though.

      I appreciate your feedback! I think Techsmith will build upon these things and we could see path animation and other stuff next year. A few of the features in 2022 in fact, expanded or built upon things from previous versions. I have a feeling that Techsmith focused on rewriting some of the core functions on this one like canvas interaction engine, support for h265 and making LOTTIE stuff more useful.

    Christian phenomenal video! So well thought out and planned. The feature to me that is the biggest game changer is the synchronization between Audiate aunt Camtasia. That was the single feature I was saying was missing from the integration previously that it would get your video file out of sync with your audio file and really was limited Audiate which currently is $29.99 per month which is very steep. What is the new price? Also your point about not having any punctuation capabilities is really on point at limits using the file as an SRT adjunct to your presentation. I hope they fix that in the upcoming version upgrade. All of the features you described are tremendous and exciting and I am looking forward to creating using their fine programs. Thank you for your outstanding video

    • @Graphicious
      @Graphicious  Před 2 lety

      Thank you so much for your great comment. I am glad you enjoyed the video! Audiate was more expensive before (when it launched, I think it was $50/month), so this year it's cheaper - but you're right, the captions are coming soon, according to the announcement on the last update. It is a popular request. I also put in a request today for automatic silence removal. I can see it growing into a much more useful product, maybe similar to Descript, but with the advantage of being integrated with Camtasia and benefiting from all the video editing power too.

    A little over a week ago I made the jump from version 8 to 2022... it's a heck of a learning curve. 😱 But since I'm pretty proficient with Photoshop and Blender 3D, they have fairly comparable workflows. So I was trying to find out about SVG animation to make my own custom callouts and such, and you just answered that question and so many others I didn't even know I needed to ask! Hi, thank you for your comment. I'm afraid playing video backwards is not possible in Camtasia, even in the 2022 version. I don't think this is a priority feature for Techsmith. Well done - this was a long video but TechSmith have included a whole raft of new items. What I did notice was that some of the json files triggered a "better in 60fps" and Camtasia offering to make the whole project 60fps. Looks as if many will be Proxy mode and more HD space required. Also I will have to be more selective of the assets I keep as many are never used!

    • @Graphicious
      @Graphicious  Před 2 lety

      Thank you! I don't know if it makes a difference whether the project is 30 or 60fps. The new assets are either pre-built using Camtasia's facilities or they are JSON LOTTIE files, which also are vector and shouldn't really matter. • @Graphicious
      @Graphicious  Před 2 lety +1

      Sadly, they didn't. And I don't see that coming very soon. I assume the reason you want the transparent canvas is to be able to export video without a background, with alpha, to use in such things as overlays, right? Well, that's not possible at the moment. In fact, in order to export with alpha, you need a different container - AVI on Windows and MOV on Mac. These containers support alpha channels. The only application I have used that actually does this (there may be others), is After Effects. But because the video must be uncompressed, it will produce VERY large files. Like, I have an animation I used to have on my videos a while ago, popping up from the bottom of the screen - that lasts about 10 seconds on-screen. It's 3GB!

    Thank you Christi for this video. I am having Camtasia 2023, I have downloaded free assets came with this version. But I am not able to find the assets which are shown in this video, specially 'DIY example' and 'Title Reveal up'. Can you please guide me, from where to download these assets.
    Thank you :)

      I think the old asset libraries are not imported in Camtasia 2023. You have to bring them manually. I think they're trying to get people to subscribe to the asset library.

      Sorry to hear that. I have had a few crashes and found a few bugs, but nothing to prevent from doing my work. In fact, this whole 1-hour video was edited in 2022! It did go slow at the end but I don't think I could have pulled it off in 2021.

      Camtasia doesn’t have that functionality.
      If you want automatic highlight of the current word, you should try Descript: cotovan.com/descript

  • @carpediem-photographie

    Thanks for this video.
    Should we upgrade?
    I would love to, but my question is:
    Is the program usable for everyone?
    Indeed, I always have to use the 2020 version because the 2021 version is unusable for me. I'm not the only one affected. Several users cannot use the 2021 version since TechSmith changed the way files were handled in the project.
    If the same problem is present with the 2022 version, I have no choice. I can't upgrade.

    • @Graphicious
      @Graphicious  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi, it works fine for me and seems more stable than 2021. What exactly is 'unusable' for you? If it's the 'standalone projects', you can of course still have projects using the old way, which doesn't put all of them in a folder together, by unchecking the standalone option when you save.

    • @carpediem-photographie
      @carpediem-photographie Před 2 lety

      @@Graphicious What for me is unusable is that it lags. With 2020, I don't have that problem.
      As soon as the project has some transitions or other animation elements, it is impossible to use. I had never noticed that there was an option to save like in camtasia 2020. I will test if the problem does not come from there. Thanks Cristi.

    Hi Cristi, I have Camtasia 2022 now, but want the legacy recorder, it is there for version 2021, but not for 2022 version. I find the few settings in recorder 2022 to less. • @Graphicious
      @Graphicious  Před 2 lety

      I’m afraid the Legacy recorder has been removed now. Techsmith announced it doesn’t come installed with 2022. You will have to keep using it from the 2021 installation. I keep like 4 versions of Camtasia installed.

    Cristi, When I create a project in Camtasia 2022 and send it to an editor who is using Camtasia 2021, they can not open the file. Is this a common issue or do you know how to work around this?

    • @Graphicious
      @Graphicious  Před 2 lety

      Yes, Camtasia projects are generally not backwards compatible. You can do a little ‘hacking’ by editing the project file in notepad and changing the version number, then try to open it in the older version. But any features or effects that you have used in the project and don’t exist in the previous version will not work.

    • @Graphicious
      @Graphicious  Před 2 lety +1

      Yep, that's my problem too. Reported it last year, and this year, and LAST WEEK. It's a bug in the way that Techsmith handles the local license cache and it conflicts when you are running two versions side by side. Close it, save and open again. It does that to me all the time, when I record my tutorials, with an older version while having the new one open. At the moment they are 'looking into it' .... no estimate of resolution.

      @@Graphicious I was waiting for more video editing options like backward video and more visual effects like blending for example, a small widget for the screen recorder, mirillis action has a very good one for example, on the audio maybe an EQ, a lot of stuff on the library its ok but some of those feel like a copy of some older functions, for example on the expressive animations-compound expressions this effects are very similar to the ones on annotations the only difference is we have a cursor drawing the figure, i feel filmora is way ahead on the video editng part.
      Of course camtasia has its advantages since is easier to use and has a better interface, but still is getting behind on the editing part, nowadays to be able to record the screen is not enogh since there are a lot of options on the market and some of them are cheaper something to have in mind for the company i think.
