We chat with an expert @dynojoemods2764 about how he got into saw work, the benefits of porting saws, and a whole lot more! I will be getting a few of my saws ported and in a future video will show the side by side comparison of how they cut as well as the before and after Dyno numbers! Joe is such an awesome dude. Humble and talented!
Yes he is. Can’t wait to get the saws back.
Joe is awesome i enjoy going over to his place you will have a lota fun with his saws in the wood pile
Thanks Charles I think I will.
Your Echo will show the biggest gain in my experience... Plus I see he has a poster of my most favourite saw on the wall to his left.. To bad they don't make them anymore
Can’t wait to get them back! They dropped the Makita gas saws as well.
Been watching Joe for a fair while now. It's really nice that he's a tuner who actually has results to show that something is working better rather than just saying that something "feels" better.
Alan, I agree. I am looking forward to see how they feel different too though. But the dyno and test cuts should tell the story.
I enjoy using my Stihl chainsaws but certainly not an expert by any stretch. Dyna Joe did an amazing job explaining all the ins and outs of modification. I really enjoyed at the end when he precisely told you how the entire shipping process takes place and what you can plan on along the way!
Thanks Obie, I learned a lot there chatting with him.
Heck yeah it’s about time you firewood guys and gals started collaborating with the chainsaw builders
Thank you, definitely looking forward to the after porting runs! I learned a lot from Joe while we were there.
Heck yeah it’s worth it!! All three of my saws are ported and I don’t think I’ll ever go back to a stock saw.
I’ve heard good things Tony! Your new splitter show up yet lol!
@@hardworkingmanoutdoors nope still waiting 😂
I really liked Joe's answer to his favorite? He made it perfectly clear it is about performance, not the "brand"Some people are "purists" by nature, but putting a "Stihl" motor in a "Husqvarna" frame doesn't affect the performance in the end and vice versa. As Joe said it's the build on the power head that creates performance, not what color the case is. This applies to a great many other areas.
He definitely appears to take pride in what he does and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing the results.
Great video explaining why you would want your saw ported. Chris from In the Woodyard and I attended the Logging Congress in Escanaba MI the last couple days and spent some time with Johnston Performance Saw who’s also based out of MI and learned a lot about chainsaw mods. It was nice to see the difference in performance. 👍TCT
Thanks Tony, I can’t wait to see and feel the difference. I have the before cuts taped and the logs saved. I’ll get the after cuts and compare them to the dyno numbers.
This is a topic I’m really interested in. Thanks for getting into it. I look forward to the before and after data.
Thanks Dick, I’m definitely looking forward to the results and have another saw planned to bring to him already.
20cc spread was good info for a second saw. So now I need a 572 😅
Kenny
For sure! I just add a saw to my collection. I need to get a bunch of videos shot! So many plans, so little time!
Hey Heath, keep these neat videos coming! I love learning stuff! -Jack
Thanks Jack, we plan on it. Appreciate the feedback!
Nice video. Joe is a good builder. Cheers
Thanks, looking forward to running them.
Nice video. Lots of info. Been thinking about doing mods on mine.
Thanks Bill, from what I’ve heard from others it’s definitely worth it.
About time. You will be shocked at how the 501 runs after the porting job. The Dolkita will be a monster but you’ll notice the biggest change in the 501. Joe did a great job on my 572.
Next Heath will be getting his weed eater, log splitters, furnace, and box fans ported. 😂
Lol, I’ve been wanting to do this for a while. I already have my next port job planned and it’s not a box fan!
@@hardworkingmanoutdoors Joe is a good guy. Smart as a whip too. I actually agree with him on the 60cc saw comments. I love cutting with my 620p. If I decide to keep the other one, I’m having Joe port that one.
I use a tach and fine tune in the cut too. Takes a little practice but you’ll get it. Just make sure the stupid limiters are off the adjusters…
Are you having him do your STIHL?
Joe done a 501p for me back in July. Best money I've spent on a saw. Absolute beast now and a pleasure to run
Awesome Erick, I like hearing that!
Just over 2hp gain. I've got a 7900 I think will have to pay him a visit next
I'm curious to watch the before and after. Great info.
Thanks.
Dyno joe is great, I’ve been watching him for awhile! I love how how has a graph and numbers not just times in the wood. Didn’t know he was in Michigan.
I didn’t either until Jason from Backyard Firewood told me. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing how it goes. You may be interested in my new saw and next project for Joe.
Get your saw ported? Do it! My stihl 460 needed to be rebuilt, I found a guy local to me here on CZcams, New England saw works, he did an great job and was affordable. He is currently rebuilding and porting my old faithful husky rancher 55 at this moment, I should be getting it back this week, I can’t wait. My 460 has a factory dual port muffler on it, I plan to try some other mufflers on it cause I just like messing with stuff and seeing if I like it. The 55 however, not many make mufflers for that but I’ll try whatever is out there.
I have my 2 in their now and plan to drop another one off when I pick these up! I’m always learning new stuff and love trying and sharing my experiences.
Just subscribed to his channel..
Good video as always my friend
Thanks Jimmie!
I think the echo will get the bigger game percentage wise
I think you may be right! Thanks for watching and commenting.
I am looking forward to seeing the dyne runs before and then the after . I believe the echo will benefit the most .
Thanks for watching Del, I’m definitely looking forward to it as well!
Great video. Now this is exciting to see if the extra work on the engine will be a game changer on the output of power the saws will produce. But having fair equal consistent testing before and after that’s cool. Can’t wait to see the results.
A good tuner can really wake up a saw. Some saws are pretty hot “out of the box”. Joe made my 572 a great saw from a good saw. I’ve got a ported Echo 620 as well…
Thank you, I’ll get the results out with in a few days of getting the saws back!
Definitely looking forward to the added power on the Echo!
Great video!! Looking forward to seeing the end results. Stay Hydrated and Have a Safe Day
Thanks David, I am as well!
Well this is interesting. I really know nothing about porting, etc. So this should be neat to see!
Thank you, I learned a lot on this trip and plan to share more in an upcoming video.
Good video I think the echo will grain more. I wish there was someone near me that could do this work. Take care, be safe and well.
I think it will as well but we will see. I know you can send saws in to Joe.
Really good video, at the end of your process with your saws I would be interested in pricing ballpark you have in it.
Again a nother great video
Thank you, and I’ll definitely share what I have in to my saws. I don’t remember exactly what I bought them for but have an idea.
Great video! 👍Will be waiting to see how they turn out.
Thanks, the waiting is the worst part!
Can never have to much power 👍
Can’t argue with that!
Nice video
Thank you David.
Great video. I sure like comparison videos. Sure will be interesting to see the difference.
Does he get in trouble with the government environment blanks because of the emissions.
To bad he was not closer. I have a saw that could use an upgrade.
Thanks and have a great week.
Thanks Noel, I do know you can ship him a saw to mod!
I don't have any sharpeners. Electric one went Kaput. I emailed neighbor, he has them, the files. What do you recommend for a solid chain sharpener (mechanical or electric) to the folks? Poulan, Stihl saw. Etc.
.
I really like my Granberg sharpener. It’s a dremel style with a bar mounted guide. I’ve heard good things about the Stihl 2in1 but haven’t personally used that one yet.
I just had to put $450 into my 4 year old Husky 390XP because it needed a new can and piston due to overheating. This is good to know. Thanks
I was surprised to hear this as well. I was under the impression that having a saw ported may shorten the life of it when it can in fact be the opposite.
My next saw will be a ported 500i... gotta save for that one though. Lol😂
I've always wondered about how ported saws last over time, tuning them to max power and torque, to me always lead me to believe, or think rather, that it would dramatically lessen the life if a saw. Its nice that he discussed the longevity of them.
Our 044s make awesome saws when they have some mods done on them... wink wink.
I thought about the 044 as I’ve heard good things. You’ll need to port the 500i or it’ll be playing second fiddle to my ported Makita.
I can’t wait to see the difference my boss put a bark box on his saw made a big difference
Thanks David, I’m thinking it will be quite noticeable. Joe said I can expect a 30-40% increase on the Echo.
How can I get in touch with Dyno Joe? I would like to get a couple saws ported myself. I didn't realize he was in Michigan.
His webpage is worksaws.com I absolutely love these saws! They run so much better than ever before.
www.worksaws.com
Would Joe order in a new saw for someone put a work saw tune on it then ship it to them?
Andrew, I am not sure. I will check with him when I go there.
Andrew, Joe said he will do this for you. Shoot him an email. His website is in the description of this video.
My feeling is always at least do a muffler mod.
For sure. These saws are much improved! Well worth the $$ imo.
Great video Heath & Rachel 👍 Very informative! Will be interesting to see the actual gains from the process when the saws are actually put in wood. Thanks for bringing the process out in the open. 🪵⛓🪚👍👏🇺🇸 Rick
Thanks Rick, I’m curious to see the difference as well.
I'm curious to watch the before and after. Great info.
Thanks, me too!
