Iron horse. I’m 36 I have a degree in law and am also a qualified quantity surveyor. For 27 years I suffered from poorly controlled diabetes and as a result of diabetic complications my kidneys failed and I have also been reduced to 6 % sight. I had to give up my cushy well paying job but I didn’t mind as it brought me back to my first & only love which is the timber industry. I recently passed all my felling tickets. The point of my message being to never let your health stop you from what you love to do otherwise a big part of you will have already died. Best videos on you tube.
Hey - this is my first visit to your channel - I was signposted here by Buckin Billy Ray talking about your saws. I have enjoyed meeting you and hearing you talk about what you build, and what you do; thank you for sharing your know;edge. Like BRS you seem to have a gentle philosophy on,life, - which is all too short in supply nowadays, and welcome to hear. All strength to you! 💪
Type 2 here in the high 170s. I cut out anything white to eat and always look for proteins on the menu. Green leafy vegetables, fish and no sugars. Rebuilding a Jonsered CS 2165, my first rebuild and thanks to you and your teaching videos. You're a professor of chainsaw engine mechanics.Stay healthy and Thanks Brother!
Thank you for your videos. I have a 55 rancher that I put a highway cylinder and pop up piston on. It runs great. I also have a g372xp. Now I'm going to to modify it like the one in this video. You have taught me alot about saws and now I have the confidence to modify them myself.
Glad your feeling better. I know 100% of what you are going threw. I am a type 1 diabetic and have been for the past 15 years. It's hard & difficult at times but you can do it for sure. I sure am enjoying your thoughts of the 372 pro model. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge with us.
You are certainly looking like you are feeling better. I was wondering earlier today how you were doing.. I'm happy to see you are well. You answered a question that's been ratting around in my head lately, about if cutting the pipe flush in the exhaust can or having some pipe in like you explained was the right plan. I was going to experiment some with that and I still might when I test the different locations of the pipe. I had a chuckle to myself when I was checking the squish on the original cylinder on the little 34cc Poulan 2150 I'm playing with. The squish was so big the solder diddnt even dent lol. It still pulls awesome after porting and I actually ran it with a 36" bar and it worked great! I ported the exact same saw last year for my stepson but I used the aftermarket cylinder and the squish was right where it should be and I can definitely tell the difference. Proper squish and better compression on the little saw helps a ton.
Definitely a sharp looking saw! I got the g660 pro a couple weeks ago and agree, after a basic tear down and reassemble to check it over, they've Definitely made some improvements over the "blue saws" from years past👍 squish on mine was .028 so I left the gasket for now. great to hear you're doing better!!
I really enjoy your videos to the point that I have the confidence to perform the mods shown in this video. Glad that your health has improved. I'm a 70 y/o operating a blue G372XP and considering purchasing a G260 "for light work" Thank You, Sir!
I just wanted to send along my sincere thanks for clearly presenting the two non-porting mods. Namely, the base gasket deletion and stock muffler modification, as discussed in this video. My old (very old) Stihl 031 never seemed to have the snus I thought it should have had. It bogged easily, even with a sharp chain and properly filed rakers. Now, after performing these two simple mods, the old girl wades through Red Fir like nobody’s business. PS: Your handle, “The Ironhorse” makes me smile. An old-timer that I used to hang with would always say this when making a point about something. He’d tell you a story, pause a bit, and then say “Iron Horse”. When I asked him about it he said, “You know ... iron horse ... no sh-t”. Anyway, thanks again for all you give us on your channel.
Great video. Beautiful weld job on the muffler. I’m Tom Sommer I live in Northwest Arkansas. I bought a Norwood sawmill about 8 months ago so I decided to log my 40 acre property. That’s what got me into chainsaw. I have a echo cs 590 24 inch bar. It was the best I could do after paying for the sawmill. It a Norwood HD36 V-2 with hydraulics. I needed the hydraulics. I’m 68. Thanks again for posting the videos. You have a great personality.
Hey Iron Horse great video. For years I would just toss the spark arrestor, drill the muffler out a bit and retune.I noticed a much better running saw!! Super easy!
Man that was the best video iv seen, you had me in fits ,barrel down mod and talking squish then cold shoulder joke,I did a similar mod to my yz250 just the other way,2.1 alloy base plate ,but then machine new combustion and some squish to get 15.1comp .keep up the good work cheers.
Paul from Iowa, Hey ironhorse, just ordered a G372xppro chainsaw and 25" bar with chain. Excited to get a New Toy. Thank you for your videos. Stay Healthy, God Bless you and your Family
I just wanted to say that I enjoy your videos. Very informative. I found out 5 months ago that I have diabetes also. You are right about the fatigue and joint pain. Mine was 548 . It took me about 3 months to get it down to 85 to 120 . I feel great now. Good luck with yours .
Harvey awesome video... I did a clean up port and polish muffler mod to my 372 carbon fiber dipped version saw..... I love it... I have a stock muffler modded muffler all Tig welded if you need one.....it's been cleaned repainted with heat paint...I live in northern ny on candian border so it probably only take a day or so to get it.....it's a extra brand new muffler that I took and modded......
So glad to see your feeling better Ironhorse, thanks for sharing your knowledge and work, hope ya have a very Merry Christmas and a Healthy and happy new year.
Advice for a guy that has a dozen stills as to how to manage storage so as not to have carb problems from old fuel. Fantastic builds -thank for sharing your build and expertise. Iron horse rocks
The best gasket compound for these motors and motorcycle motors is the Loctite 515. The compound is anaerobic, so it doesn't dry until it's bolted up, it can sit there forever on the surface and stay wet so there is no rush to bolt up. Also because anything that gets pushed out from between the surfaces will get washed away because it won't dry so it won't mess up the flow of your ports or block small passages, brilliant stuff.
Thanks for all your great videos, and helpful information on saws, and sawing.I enjoy All you knowledge and stories of living and working keep up the great work thanks again
Good to see health is getting better for ya bud. We need you to teach us all you can, especially us younger guys. Like to see this saw in the wood and how it runs. Take care friend and as always, thank you.
the aging of the body is to me a diploma of life, you earned it, embrace it and be thankful for the story it tells. Nice saw. The orange 372 Holzfforma I bought (build date October 2022) did not have the well detailed cylinder...I looked...pretty rough inside and definitely no chamfering. I suspect the better prepared cylinder is a feature offered as an upgrade and part of that "pro" package of the carbon fiber version.
I'm so happy for you man! It is genuinely heartwarming to see you feeling good. I love that you're sharing it with us. Looking forward to seeing what's under that beard!
Pretty sharp looking saws..seem to be very popular right now..has been rainy only getting 3 days a week without rain..grounds wet..good to know your feeling better..bad habits are hard to break ..windy today...👍👍
Hey man just saying hi I think your video are the best chainsaw videos on CZcams thanks for sharing your great stories I really like listening to them thanks iron horse
Thank you Ironhorse for all you information and teaching skill. That sure is a good lookin saw buddy. Congrats to the proud owner of that beauty. Love ya brother. 🌲❤️🌲👊🪓
Have Neo Tech on order. These are the first two things I will do to it. Thank you for the videos, always learn something. Hoping your health improves, praying for you.
Just found your channel today, had heard about you through Buckins comments. Good Vid but I'm curious to hear your viewers comments on these saws. I have a big Husky. 2 smaller Sthils but in a year or so will be in the market for a new one. Cheers Aussie Jeff Moore
I’ve been asking what everyone thinks of these and you are the only one who has been honest about what they think of these or maybe folks aren’t really looking what these pro versions are about. Maybe folks don’t like the 100$ more 🤷🏻♂️ This 372pro and the 660pro are damn monsters after my version of ironhorse/hopper/walker build.
Been awhile from last visit, glad your doing so much better, thanks for your time, would you be interested in rebuilding an old Mac 110,not sure have to look when I get home, would be honnered to have a saw you have touched
Glad to hear your carbs are going well. Just started cutting bad carbs. Really enjoy your videos. Thank you so much for sharing. I’m not going to cut much wood but would like to know what holzfforma 50cc plus or minus 10cc saw is good to buy and port? Or non holzfforma saw
First time viewer, you remind me of my dad. He battled diabetes for years. He also loves tinkering on things all the time, which he passed onto me. I'm now subscribed to your channel and gonna go sit through some of your other videos. I've been slowly learning how to do more with these engines from Tinmans videos also.
You're a great man Ironhorse. THANKS for sharing. Talking about small saws, I love my 1983 eagerbeaver 2.0, flat filed full house 16" bar. Wish I saw one tweaked up a little.
Keep thinking positive and taking care of yourself. You're a legend. I won't be buying any aftermarket parts or clones but it obviously all applies to OEM in this case. Thank you sir.
Dude you ain't a lying, or by urself...this life dont owe me nothing and I'm about half ur age..sheeew, lived hard for awhile, love you brother keep on keeping on, like the saws, get ur numbers right!
Sounds good 👍😊 Glad your feeling better my friend!!!! I thought you were diabetic over a year ago!!! But that is here nor there!! You know now !!! My sugar was 135 this morning because I had some popcorn 🍿 last night 😊👍 But I usually run 120 in the morning 🌄 I don't eat potatoes at all !!!! You've given lots of us the confidence to try new things. I mostly play with throw away consumer stuff cause it comes to me for the right price and I don't feel bad if I screw it up. Like you've said, gotta break a few eggs... I learn something from you everytime I watch/rewatch your vids. Take care buddy.
Hey Harvy your an darn right honest human being! Your age is not a barrier to accomplish your goals. Frailness comes with age but you are a wise man and you are compensating for life short comings. Keep well and thanks for the humble community You've set up! God bless! Endre from down under Australia
And another great video Iron horse love this content as I am really getting into the 372xp. Awesome saws and my goal is to make one run as good as you can get them to run. Love it
I gotta say, the faux carbon fiber does look good! And I respect you for giving credit to the 50 class. They are the unsung heroes of the chainsaw World, but there is a reason that big box stores usually only sell chainsaws up to 59cc. You East Coast guys are too much sometimes, though. A firewood man in the High Sierras needs at least 95cc, although the majority of work can be handled by the 70 class. My little Gen 1 55 Rancher still gets whipped out all the time and it is a chainsaw that gained 25% in the cut after a muffler mod!
Hey Ironhorse, thanks for the vid. I always pick up bits and pieces from you. My wife is diabetic for years now. Once she got things under control, she put it on cruise and is enjoying life at a premium. You’re looking healthier already! Beauty saw. Im starting to consider buying one. Have fun!
Would you object to a subscriber dropping some nice fat logs off at your place to test run saws in, when weather is bad? Would think someone in the area could hook ya up with a few nice ones!?!? Glad you are feeling better and take care. All the great content/knowledge is always appreciated!👍
I watch Buck'n Billy's channel and he mentioned you were in upstate new york on the episode where you mailed him a 327 you improved for him. I have the same saw since 2007 new. I love the saw. The closest notable town I am near is Boonville, New York. Are we close? Would love to bring my saw to you! Truly love this saw! 😇
Hi Ironhorse. Love your videos! I have a Stihl 881 (bought 2022 less than 10 hrs on saw) with bark box that I’m using for milling with Alaskan mill. Saw not running great in my novice opinion. West coast saw advised me not to port the saw for milling. But is there anything else I can do to improve performance? I've heard that replacing the Ignition Module / Coil with one from an ms170 would increase rpms. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Didn’t like the crank in the 372’s? Which years sir 😁 Do tell because e er since the x-torques have came out I have been an anti-372 man unfortunately 😟 What do you feel has changed? Thank you so much for the time you spend on this channel!!! Great to hear from a man that has no problem diving in deep with the knowledge of know how... Certainly!
As a T1 diabetic diagnosed at age 13 and now 40 I can attest how difficult things get sometimes. I hope you have a dr (endocrinologist) that you feel comfortable with and listen to what they say. Wish you the best bud.
I have started cutting more wood due to fuel prices, but enjoying cutting and splitting wood. I have a Stihl ms279c, thought about buying a Stihl ms462c, but a New one is 1399.00 plus tax, so decided to go with the Holzforma g372xppro

Good video! Looking forwards to seeing your saw in the wood. Some good advice you gave there. It's good to hear your feeling better than you were.
Keep it up Harve, doing good!

Almost ready for the mountain bike conversion.
Nice ending message, also
All the best brother. Good timing. Pardon the pun. Just doing a base gasket delete and opening up an exhaust on a 346xp.
You sound a lot better, keep up what you have been doing to get where you are. 🤙🇺🇸🇺🇸
Awesome video today I’m glad to see back on, miss you and your stories lol.
I've found if you cut that pipe about 4.75" and push it to the back corner of the muffler above the exhaust port it pulls like mad.
Loves ya man! Wish you all the best with your health. Stay positive and keep up the good work. Canada
Just found your channel after buying an ms120. Ran it for the 1st time yesterday. I'm looking to make it run like a dream.

Certainly!
Your right about cleaning out the muffler real good after any drilling/welding mods. Cause now I got a Husky 390 to rebuild, dang it anyway.
