Love the videos! Some comments from a recent LA Tech (2019) grad:
    1. North Texas has that odd looking North endzone stand (which goes damn near straight up, ive climbed it) bc the at the south endzone there is a big bronze eagle's head so the idea is that the north endzone is the "tail" of an eagle. Also, the stadium sells beer until the 4th quarter and looks bigger than its capacity due to the raised seating. Probably my favorite away stadium I visited while in college (marching band.)
    2. Tech's pressbox is newer than the south endzone and extends from 20 to 20. There is a big catering room behind the seats. I've been to events there while in college there. Tech's concessions are in desperate need of renovation, which hopefully be built once the soccer and softball complex is finished.
    3. If you ever want tickets to a game at the " Joe", let me know!

Note: that third clump of buildings you showed while looking at the various business districts around Rice Stadium is the Texas Medical Center. And the reason why, for such a small school, they have a big old stadium, is because back in the 50’s, when Rice was good, they had one of the top 3 attendance ratings, along with Michigan & Ohio State.

    • @bryfunkenstein

I read that it wasnt even built for rice. It was built because Houston at the time didnt have a large venue for football. Back then it was only Jepperson(roberson) stadium at UH and THAT was for HISD. The Astrodome came after 'Houston Stadium' and all pro sports moved there leaving 'Houston Stadium' for Rice

Conference USA is an intercollegiate athletic conference whose current member institutions are located within the Southern United States. The conference participates in the NCAA's Division I in all sports. Conference USA is the home conference of the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles and the UTSA Roadrunners, who are probably joining the Sun Belt Conference, an NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision conference that would eventually become one of the 6 major FBS Superconferences, along with the Southeastern Conference, the Big Ten Conference, the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Pacific-12 Conference, and the American Athletic Conference, as of the result of the dissolution of the Big 12 Conference caused by the mass exodus of all 10 members, one of them is the TCU Horned Frogs

Regarding the Joan C. Edwards/James F. Edwards situation at Marshall, the field was named after Mr. Edwards first when the stadium was built in the early 90s. When I grew up going to games there, it was "James F. Edwards Field at Marshall University Stadium". When the stadium expanded in the post-Randy Moss era (the upper green seats in the endzone), I believe Mrs. Edwards gave more money and it became Joan C. Edwards Stadium. Its one of 5 buildings on Marshall's campus named for her.

Correct me if I'm wrong Rice fans, but the reason for the bike race track is for the annual "Beer Bike" right? For those unfamiliar with the beer bike, if I remember correctly, it is a competition among the school's numerous dorms. Each dorm puts up a team of bikers who have to drink an entire beer then race around the track. Something along those lines, I'm sure a Rice alum would have a better answer.

I love the sun bowl at around sunset, with those hill's in the background. I remember when they briefly were good under the coach mike price which was hired by Alabama, then went to some strip club and got caught, and had to resign from the greatest coaching position in college football. Bama. wow, so he had to settle for UTEP. just a tad of a drop off there. but he coached them to some wins. He said he got fat there because of all the great mexican food. But seeing your video I am a bit dissapointed because I thought that those beautiful hills in the background made it seem like it was remote, but in reality it's right in the city, just happens to be sitting down in that bowl. they used to be in the sunbelt conference, now, CUSA? god I hate all the conference realignments going on today. the big 12, used to be nebraska, oklahoma etc now they have been gutted.
