Apparently Scorsese’s wife cheating on him was completely improvised, this was his honest reaction on set

That one shot at 3:50 showing the back of Travis’ head. It’s brilliant and unsettling. It really shows the tension Travis feels. There’s something so incredibly raw this film.

Apparently that was De Niro’s idea to not have Travis turn around and look at Scorsese in the scene but rather look forward and look at him in the rear view mirror
My god It's so unsettling. Such a heavy sense of dread whenever I see that shot, like something sinister could happen at any moment.
I can confidently say as an Uber driver this is what we go through every day.

A lot of the time it’s true though… for instance, you know that scene in Avengers Infinity War where Thanos snaps his fingers and half of all life in the universe ceases to exist? 100% improvised on set by Josh Brolin.

Schrader tells an awesome story about how he begged Marty to not act in this scene because it wouldn't work. It was one of Schrader's favorite scenes he wrote. So he really wanted it to be good.

If you’ve ever tried it, you’ll find that acting like a crazy person is REALLY hard, because it’s so easy to overact, and yet I feel that Scorsese does a good job, he’s a really creepy character.
Yeah you can really feel it's easy for him to speak about wanting to kill a black person in a very honest manner. I don't think he was really acting deep down

Personally, this was always my favorite scene in Taxi Driver. When I watched it for the first time, I had no idea it was Scorsese as the vengeful passenger. Not just a great director, but the man had some serious acting chops as well. That was a very underrated performance.

I love how it’s left ambiguous as to if this was really happening or not, maybe it was just all in Travis’s mind or maybe there really was a guy in his cab feeling the same crazy impulses as Travis
It's definitely ambiguous.. but i tend to lean that the scene is manifesting Travis's racing thoughts .. I think Scorsese saying "I'm sick..right" .. and the shot of the back of Travis head points to this
Men, Martin Scorsese is actually a talented actor who has barely acted in the past 5 decades of his directing career, he played this dude in Taxi Driver, he played Vincent Van Goh in Dreams of Akira Kurosawa, and i remember that he even did terrific voice acting in "Sharks tale". I wonder why he doesnt act too much when he is a very talented actor who underuses his own talent that much.

He literally thought nothing because it's a movie and completely fictional and that martin Scorsese obviously doesn't feel that way about African Americans

The music too is heavy and foreboding.
This is one of my favourite scenes in this movie; firstly it clearly demonstrates Scorsese's skill at acting even though he isn't a trained actor. However the script is very good, but what does it for me is the way Scorsese says to Travis "Now THAT you should see, what a .44 Magnum can do to a woman's pu%%y", it's not what he says, it's the way he delivers it by over-emphasising the word 'THAT'.
yes you can imagine him hating blacks naturally as he's SO FREAKING good at it, so natural.
Italians hated blacks a lot when this movie came out. This, and Rocky.

Knew this was Scorsese from day one of seeing this movie. Good scene. Love how he only showed the woman’s silhouette. Behind the curtain. But you can tell she was attractive.
