  • r/Entitledparents This poor, struggling mom just wants a place for her babies to live comfortably. So does she go get a job and buy an apartment herself? NOPE! She pressures OP into literally just giving her a house for free. And as a show of gratitude, this entitled mother will let OP live in the house that she purchased (in the guestroom, of course). How very gracious of this entitled parent 🙄

I have a family who is very modestly Christian (and due to how much I love science and no proof of God I am agnostic) and I, out of hunger and habit, took a bite of a meal before the family we were with prayed (we are modest on religion as I said so we do not pray before eating) and they just told me they prayed before and even said I could start eating while they prayed, I decided to pray with them as I realized they were very kind despite being very religious.
Needless to say, all of my family (who didn’t take a bite of the food) prayed with them out of respect.

I would personally say the kids themselves are a blessing until they develop a personality or turn into little brats. Just because they are born to potentially not ready or garbage parents doesnt make them not a blessing initially. It's more that now that they are here they have a clean slate. The blessing isnt necessarily to the parents. But that's my thinking bc I do believe all kids are a blessing until later. I know several horrible children and parents. But the kids werent horrible til they learned from the parents that being horrible is acceptable. Soooo..to me the blessing status is removable. Lol

The girl with the house reminds me of my grandma. Shes the kind of person that expects you to offer them any and everything you have at all times. She also has this really bad habit of making every little thing about herself. Ive been having medical problems, but I dont like talking about it around her, because after every sentence of what i go through of treatment, she has twenty more about her experience being old diabetic and rickety. Anyway, on my last birthday I had just gotten out of the hospital earlier that week and my mom plucked a metal flower crown from her own collection and gave it to me because it matched a pretty dress i wanted to wear and she told me i could keep it. I love that crown and wear it all the time like a headband. Of course, as soon as grandma saw it, she went on and on about how much she liked it. Then one day, when im not wearing it, we were talking about what we want for christmas and she says she wants my crown. Not one like it. Mine. She even sat there kinda expecting me to run and go get right there. I kinda laughed it off, but she still brings it up all the time. I told her if i had bought it myself, id have given it to her, but it was a gift from mom. Mom knows what shes like so she gets why i lean on that excuse time and time again. But even if i am leaning, it really was a birthday gift from my mother after i got out of the hospital. She will never even pry the crown from my cold dead hands. I just dont understand some people who can be so deaf to the most basic idea of "it doesnt belong to you"

If we were out in public and I felt embarrassed (teenagers are always embarrassed), she'd look around and say, "Are you ever going to see these people again? No? So don't worry about it."

The "Christian Prayer" scene - really bad way to teach kids about Christianity (explains why there's been a decline, both in terms of numbers and morality though). There's only three times a year that I do any kind of praying (outside of any time I go to church, which is very little) - Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas - as my Grandma wants someone to say Grace, and we usually keep it short - Thanks for the food, thanks for them that made it, and asking the big guy to watch over those who couldn't make it, and also (especially if the weather looks bad) to watch folks on their travels.
As for the "Mother Needing a Place to Live" - that Mother could have worked something out if she agreed to pay for part of the bills and otherwise contribute to the home. My own mother lives with me and she helps out by paying for part of the bills, food, and driving me around (I can't drive).

I think I commented this on another channel, but the "TV" Karen reminded me of another old story of a Karen who was in a dept store behind a couple of teen girls trying to use their dad's credit card to buy some stuff. Upon overhearing that the kids' card was actually their dad's, Karen intervened at checkout, preventing the cashier from accepting the card. Her reasoning? Not that she felt they were using the card without permission (though that does remain possible); but rather that, in her own house, Karen's children were not permitted to use her credit card, and so she was enforcing her personal house rule on someone else's child. SHE ACTUALLY ADMITTED THIS IN HER POST. Then had the gall to ask AITA?

I've had pretty much the same thing happen with my sister and brother in law. They live in a one-bedroom apartment with my 3-year-old nephew. I'm lucky enough that I live in a 4-bedroom house with a big yard with no neighbors (this is rare here in the Netherlands). I never had any real expenses during my teenage years and early twenty's as I was in the military, single and no kids. Saved up my money, bought a nice house away from people, so I can enjoy life with my dogs.
Both my sister and her husband started mentioning how they are struggling in their tiny apartment, mentioning how much room I have for just myself, that I don't need all of it. And it came to a point where my brother in law basically demanded we should swap. I laughed it off, a week later it got brought up again and this time they brought in my nephew, how I was a terrible uncle for not allowing him to have a room to himself, how I didn't care about his wellbeing. Now mind you, I have high functioning autism so that was the point where I lost my cool. I calmly pointed out the facts to them, how they were terrible parents, how they should've thought of their living situation before deciding to get pregnant. I haven't spoken to any of them in over 3 months, which sucks because I really do like my nephew, and he's sad that he can't come to me and play with the dogs. Was I out of line with my outburst? I personally don't think so, but again, autism makes it so that I don't really understand how "normal people" would handle it and maybe I was out of line.

Many years ago when I was a lot younger, my wife and I (serious church goers) were invited to a youth group dinner by a couple who went to a different type of church. We received our meals and, forgetting about grace, I started to tuck in right away (we never said grace at home - never got into the habit). Immediately everyone went totally silent, and I looked up to see a fellow glaring right at me. I can still see his face to this day, 45 years later! I then realised that I should have waited for grace. I was quite embarrassed and never went back to that couple's house again. I decided that their particular church didn't worry about how they treated visitors. If it happened to me today, I would have said, "I know I forgot the grace, but I don't think much of you people embarrassing me for it, and I'm sad that you are not showing me basic Christian love and tolerance for my mistake.."

I handed the notebook to my friend and quietly whispered 'your turn' ..her mom leaned over and proceeded to whisper - cuss me out for about 1 minute and a half straight for disrupting the service and how rude i was being and i needed to be quiet etc etc ..apparently that was less disruptive than my 'your turn'
After this I ended up spending the night at her house. Once. During that time her mom told me that they are 'very open people' with no secrets..when she left I asked my friend what she meant..she said 'she means we dont close the door when we use the bathroom' ..the rest of the night was us cleaning her room and the kitchen before her mom sent us out in freezing weather to load a sled with wood and bring it to the house . We were 10 year old kids and couldnt move the sled so we went in to ask for help.. her mom came out, proceeded to load the sled with MORE wood, then struggled to help us get it to the house..this entire time her father was randomly napping on the couch or watching tv.
I finally understood why my friend was so shy, quiet and awkward..but I never went back .

That first story reminded me of something that happened to me when I was 8. I went to stay the night with my friends Alex and joe and their mom was religious af. I was not told of any rules about dinner whatsoever. When dinner was set out we all had pasta and cups of juice, I started eating and their mom got mad at me for not saying grace as guests always said grace in their house. Uncomfy but I did even though I had no idea what to say (my family did not have this rule) after that is was so quiet and I got sniped at for talking to Alex as dinner meant no talking. Really weird. During dinner the pasta turned out to be really spicy so I drank my juice, their mom was washing dishes by this point so she wasn’t at the table. I asked for more juice and she glared at me and asked “why did you drink your juice?” I was so confused cause I was thirsty, why else?? She poured me more and said “you wait till after dinner to drink your drinks, if you keep behaving like this you’re not going to be allowed back here for dinner with us.” Lady I don’t want to come back after this experience. My friends apologized after and then I got picked up. I told my mom what happened in the car and she said “yeah, some people are weird religious. You don’t have to go back.” I stuck to leaving my friends house before their mom could even ask if I wanted to stay for dinner ever again. Screw that noise!

I despise people who say "well if you don't have kids then you know nothing". I don't have kids. HOWEVER, I was the primary caregiver to two children both under age 5. For just over 11 months, I was the one who put them to bed, got them up for school, did the housework, got them from school, cooked dinner, potty trained the 2 year old. I was 20 at the time and it was a very unexpected turn of events. I managed it though. So, no, I don't have kids, but I have experienced raising them and know what it entails. Hence why I never had my own. The kids are 19 and 15 now. I might not have experienced what it's like to love my child and have that mother and child bond, BUT, neither did the mother to these two kids 🙄. Plenty of mothers out there unfortunately don't experience a "mothers love" towards their kids, so, don't lecture me about how I know nothing. I was dumped in the deep end with 2 kids I didn't know and suddenly became their full time unpaid caregiver. No, I don't have kids, but I'm also not an idiot, I know how to raise them. Get out of here with the whole " you don't have kids, you don't know what it's like".

I enjoyed it for the same reason, and the customers were mostly nice (I once got a nice explanation from an old woman who told me to put the newspaper on the table on her porch, as if she bent down, she would likely fall over), but my supervisor was not. When I told him my family were going on vacation for two weeks, he came by our house and told my mother that I would have to stay home (I was 13 at the time). My mother politely said "wait here" and she came back with a cast-iron frying pan and told him that that was ridiculous to let a 13 year old stay alone for two weeks and that she would brain him if he didn't leave off. Guess what? I got the time off, and had two weeks of fun at the beach. My mum was great, not only at this, but she was a fairly early feminist. My primary school published names of mothers as "Mrs Joe Blow", and she marched into the office and said "I do NOT have my husband's name!" This was in the 1970s, so this was fairly out-of-date by then, but the school still did it. (They stopped the next year.)

Remove from the school's roster only until her daughter graduates? I think she should be removed permanently. She's blatantly terrible. You can't send a student to the office just because you don't like them. If a teacher ever did that to me, I would tell the principal "She just walked in and said I had to go to the office. I don't know why." If I got challenged, I would insist that he ask the teacher, because "I can't explain anything further until I know what reason she gives for it." Because I don't think any teacher can get points for saying "Because they have the job I want my daughter to have."

I was at a friends place for dinner when I was maybe 5. I had finished my glass of water really fast and my friend pointed it out to their dad. The dad replied with "well she can go without then. She isnt getting any more." So I ran out crying

I'd get it if they'd of said something first. Like hey these are our rules at the dinner table. But you don't just tell a kid they don't get more to drink after drinking it during the meal. Too late now dude

This is probably a small thing overall, but I love how well rSlash can transition from just talking in his regular voice to his Karen voice. Had that in the back of my mind for a while, but the thought popped up again during the newspaper story.

I seriously feel for the girl with the mean drunk mom. My late aunt on my equally late mom's side was an alcoholic and, due to severe trauma growing up, was about as mean as they come. She was an absolute delight while sober, but she got drunk pretty much every day of the week and when she did she became threatening, almost aggressive, and made wild accusations that seemed completely out of the blue until I learned what she'd been through. The whole story is way more complicated, but suffice to say, having to deal with that sort of shit is just devestating. (I might also add that my mom also had issues related to alcoholism but she was never mean, just...drunk, which, of course, doesn't mean that it still wasn't devestating, but at least I wasn't fearful for my life and well-being around her.)

I too was thrown off my the sister thinking that OP would just give her the house and find residents elsewhere.
If I were OP, I’d let the sister move in if she took over the lease and all payments. Watch how quickly that conversation would be shut down 😂

My friend in high school had a paper route and thankfully didn't have to collect any money, it was all paid by credit card. One day as he was walking down a driveway, this drunk naked man ran after him yelling. My friend Harry stopped to see what the problem was. The guy said they had charged his credit card twice. Harry didn't really know what to say and was just standing there with this naked drunk guy. He told him he was sorry and would talk to his boss. The guy grabbed the back of Harry's very long hair and tried to pull him up the driveway. Thankfully Harry was a pretty big boy, he stood 6'4 in high school. So he yanked his head back and took off. Down the driveway. At the end of the driveway a cop was driving by, small town, and Harry flagged him down. He told the cop what had happened and the guy was yelling about, "the little brat not listening to him" thr cop arrested the guy in all his naked glory and Harry quit the paper route a week later.

I hate when "so called" christians try to act all high and mighty above everyone else and try to abuse that to say anything on any other person. I'm a christian myself so when I see or hear stuff like this it makes me so angry cuz of it.

Love thy neighbor. God and Jesus wants us to love each other no matter what. And to me, I honestly do not care what you identify as, or who you love, or what religion you practice. As long as you are happy, and not causing harm to yourself or others, you can be free to be yourself.

Second story about sister wanting OP's bigger house for her children. Children are a blessing, but if you can't afford to house and feed them etc. then don't have them or at least limit the number that you have. It's not anybody else's job to finance them.
