I think these would be best suited being used as a “work pencil” by a carpenter or Forman etc that is making hundreds of quick marks on measured material every day but is not concerned with the quality of the writing as the pencil is used. The kind of writing utensils you see on job sites are all over the damned place and people tend to not be incredibly picky about how the thing writes specifically as long as it’s something they can grab quickly and mark a measurement.
Pencils are the most popular option because of their non permanent nature. They also do not stain porous material as there is no liquid solvent involved. This would be PERFECT because we are always snapping the tip on our pencils and never have time to sharpen them/never have a sharpener on hand. So we just toss it and go digging for another pencil as there’s usually another nearby. This would practically eliminate this issue!

I think the companies making these should educate consumers on the origin of the tool, which pre-dates the graphite pencil. Before the discovery of graphite, artists would use silver or gold wire known as a silverpoint to draw on a rough surface prepared with gesso. Many of the renaissaince drawings that look like pencil (i.e. not the charcoal or chalk ones) were done using silverpoint.

yeah, i'm just gonna stick with mechanical pencils. I like the fine tip that you always get (never gets wider) and you can easily replace the graphite.

I'd keep this in a first aid kit. Even if breakable it's tougher than a pencil and can last far longer in storage than a pen, waiting for when it's needed even years from when it was put in the kit.
These same reasons make this a great item for prepper kits.

If you have ever worked as a carpenter, you will know that it is very common to drop your pencil, at 14.00 initially, then 6-7.00 for a replacement tip. Over the cost of a cheap.09 technical pencil or traditional carpenters pencil, you’d realize the impracticality of your proposal.
