I call this the Game Boy 35XX
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 12. 08. 2024
- The Anbernic RG35XX is a great emulator, but I thought it would be really cool to see it in the body of an original Game Boy.

I love seeing Bob dive into new territory. I mean - damn, that thing is an abomination, but seeing an aspiring casemodder go through problems and seeing him improve his work in the future (I'm crossing my fingers for that) is both relatable and interesting as hell.
I'd love a GBA inspired version of this!
I miss that form factor...
I was just thinking the same thing. The best handhelds out there right now seem to be the old Gameboy style but the Gameboy Advance is my absolute favorite. So much more comfortable
Iâve been looking at my own recently wondering how to do exactly that, or a gba sp
yesss!!
Wanna see this!
Same
Looks really uncomfortable being that short but maybe it's just because I haven't used a vertical handheld in forever.
Super excited to see how it turned out ! Loved tuning in to all the build streams. 10/10 content !
this is so cool! seeing you design and provide these 3d prints you feature in your videos is a really cool idea. keep going with this
Well well well if it isnât ol glob of solder back at it again
cold joints for days
Yeah Bob I love this idea and execution but you could level up your solder game with a little research into heat levels of your iron, gently preheating components (not chips just pads) before you apply solder, and using flux on components to help them stick. But this isn't an electrical engineering class (thank god) so solid B+
@@beatsbyandrew Bob starts projects before hes even read through or seen the tutorial or directions. then he fucks something up because hes literally working on the project while simultaneously trying to follow along with no reference of what the next several steps are even going to be. he has no business using power tools and soldering irons but he pulls it off most of the time
In any case it's good to show people that it can be hacked together for you to enjoy, even if you aren't proficient with an iron.
Considering they're his own personal items there's literally nothing wrong with experimenting. He also says everywhere that he's not a professional and these are not official tutorials.
Being there live for the "Little bit of an accident" was absolutely an experience. Great job Bob, I hope to complete similar projects in the near future.
very cool project, Bob. your previous video on the other channel pushed me over into pulling the trigger on a 3D printer and I am loving it. haven't used it to make as much of my own stuff, but it's already a game-changer. looking forward to version 2, 3, or even 4 of this project one day.
Supporting for the effort and time put into this project. Keep it up!
Congratulations on the video! This project has a lot of potential!
A version of this being sold as a kit would be awesome!
Watching it all unfold live on the live streams was great!
Love what ya did here! I love the shape of the DMG and GBC they feel so good in hand.
Dude... That button breakout board is something ive been searching for forever for a completely unrelated project! (Raspberry pi stuff) thanks for the vid!
With how crazy the world of emulation is ; Iâm glad to hear that Bob still loves the 35XX. Makes me feel good about the fact that I purchased one back In February
That looks so cool! I need one of those lol I liked my gameboy as a kid seeing this is so cool! Keep up the goodwork with your videos!
i really like the direction this channel in the past few years from just talking about switch related things to all these cool DIY sort of projects that we can learn from and even attempt at home
Well done and thank you for making the files available and for all this!
This is so cool! I love watching videos like these. Great job!
Iâve recently started watching your channel from Beatemups but Iâve never thought of electronic modding as relaxing to watch before. Iâd never attempt it, but itâs cool to see the finished product
I love this content from you it seems like you had a lot of fun doing it and I also enjoy things that are a pain in the ass and it shows in the video how much you enjoyed it.
This is one of the better looking projects you've made, loved it!!
this was really cool to watch and i do hope to see others from the community attempt to improve on this really awesome build you did, personally i dont wanna take apart my rg35xx i have the grey one and i like it but if i had a second one and if i was a handy person yea sure id do it
thats pretty awesome, been contemplating doing something similar. thanks for the inspiration.
Slick presentation. Nice project. Great Stuff! As always!
This is the way! I've always wondered if this was possible and you built it. To remove the front screws, maybe you could 3d print a piece that goes inside between the shells and and clicks into place but also screws internally to the front shell? t's hard to explain and I am not an engineer haha. Definitely a cool project.
This concept is awesome - real food for thought directly for anbernic..
But the soldering, wiring, dremeling and the 3d printing solutions of yours made me go through a lot of pain :)
that screwdriver is a game changer! thanks for sharing that link, i got it last week and love it
Great job Bob! I love how you approach these projects the same way I do....just start and see Wtf happens đ
It is gorgeous. Love the white and clear aesthetic.
I loved watching this get built on your twitch.. highlight of my week.
Love your videos, and awesome job making your own :)
I appreciate the effort, even if I'm never gonna buy something like this.
Good effort and I like this.
Iâd be so down to watch you tackle a 2.0 version of this build If you ever feel like it! Like you mentioned in the video, the changes Iâd love to see are the usb hole being at the bottom, and there being a headphone jack hole as well đ
Great project Bob. Very bold and ambitious.
Another great video, thanks Bob. Might have to rewatch the 35XX and potentially get oneâŠ
Wow this looks so cool! I don't have a 35xx to sacrifice to the education process, but this is a pretty approachable guide. Thanks Bob!
This is awesome I love these projects
Loving content like this!
damn you for doing exactly what I was thinking my next project was going to be and therefore guaranteeing I will do it ASAP
Great project excited to see the Gameboy pocket one!
best DIY ever!!!!! lets go!!! someone in the community is gonna make a kit now.
I have one on order and it's taking ages, so I can't wait to get back to some retro gaming
This was pretty awesome to watch. Honestly the only thing that bugged me was those two screws ya had on the front of the unit. Maybe a counter sink and flat head style of screw would have been better? Then just 3d print some caps to blend it, either way I love this video. Would be awesome to own and play something like this. Thanks for sharing the vid
I love this. Great job bob.
I love your mini projects Bob! Can you please show us around your electrical lab?
Awesome job Bob! đ
Love this type of videos
everyday we get closer to Bob just making his own portable handheld...
also personally I love the hatched togther design with the big screw bolts showing
I had thought about doing something similar when I used to mod Gameboys, kept telling myself it couldn't be too hard. Glad you put in the work and I can finally see how it could come out, but I'll just stick to the 35xx lol
Turned out pretty cool , I got my 35xx because of you .
I'm glad that you are happy of results and ur having fun. Personally I liked original more. But I do not have any nostalgy for Original Gameboy. I would love to see perfect build of GBA like that ^
3D printing is clearly scratching your creative itches. Awesome work Wulf! Keep up the good work. (Please help me find Bob's green screen tips & tricks video, I can't find it!!)
Good job on Vid. Hope your finger feels better!
Some counter sunk screws may look more aesthtically pleasing. IE for those 2 big screws on the front. Regardless super creative video Wood. Always love seeing a fellow tinkerer doing what he loves. đđ»
Dope build!
This is brilliant. Worth the time
Awesome proof of concept, I would love to see it with a clamshell device of some sort
Love watching this on live streams. Didn't see you hit the left button much đ€Łđ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
Those transitions go crazy
I wanted to play Street of Rage 2 since I lost it on 1999, I have had it on PC emulators but it just didn't feel the same, it didn't fix that itch, I try getting the cartridge got 3 non worked and I saw your video about these device and man the nostalgia hitted hard I love these device so much.
This is awesome, would have love this on the GBC too!!!
Cool video, man! đ»
Looks great this is impressive
Its the perfect modern Gameboy. Looks great. Nice work đ€đ
Loving the chapter titles.
I'm loving this new adventurous tinkering Bob
Super cool, I wonder if at some point someone will make a shell that makes it much easier
Sick, would definitely buy another from Anbernic if they implemented this design. The current design is a little cramped and I don't really take it anywhere aside from the bathroom and the couch.
Great content, loved this
the rg353v is a vertical version that can play dreamcast and dual analog ps1 games and dual boot into android and linux
@@badslime6453 That's cool, I don't really have an interest in those games though. This thing is almost exclusively a gb/gbc/gba console for me. Which is perfect. Plus the sticks ruin the nostalgia for me. But it is dope that it they can do all of that in the rg353v
Absolutely janktastic, I love these mod videos!
Absolutely would buy that form factor. Wish someone would market one!
I love my rg35xx! So cheap yet really good at its job emulating old consoles. Perfect for me playing the jrpgs ive missed back in the day also those english translated ROM games for the SNES like Bahamut Lagoon, etc.!
Bob, this is fantastic.
Literally been waiting for someone to make a video like this. I would try it myself but I know Iâm just going to mess everything up
This is so awesome â€ïž
Might buy a rg35xx just to do this mod now.
Always wanted to build one of those raspberry pi zero gameboys but thought it was too complicated but this seems a lot simpler in concept since it's just moving the parts from one handheld to another
I like it. I have thought about doing something like this myself as someone with bigger hands, the form factor is a little uncomfortable for my liking so this would be a great alternative.
I need to make a flat-white vintage nintendo version now! Great design.
Great video man! I think the closest to the Game Boy DMG feel is Anbernic's RG353V/S... đ
Great content! Looks good LoL đ
This is cool. You do cool things
please make more mod, i love see you get super frustrated in satisfied in the same video haha
I'm glad you made this video. These companies make Gameboyish portables, but they don't feel quite like playing an actual gameboy (emulation aside).
Should have made a Wulffdendo GAME BOY decal for it đ Great build 4 video, got my OG GB for Xmas in â89, these new emulators are great but I miss that plastic house brick aesthetic.
With the kind of stuff you're getting into, SLA 3D printing would do you a world of good. It's so much better for small, precise parts in projects like this. Take it from a hardware dev! It might seem intimidating, but it's so worth it to learn.
I've heard the "Elegoo Saturn" is a pretty good SLA printer series to start out with.
You're the man. Thank you
Great work. I would love it if anbernick or miyoo would work with you for a future release
When you drill holes, start with a smaller bit and work your way up. That way the large bit wonât be as likely to grab the part and make it spin in your hand, or break completely. Also if you have a vice, put the part in that.
Great video, and cool project. In regards to one of your issues with your own build..could you not spray paint the front screws white to make them more subtle?
i love my anbernic 353V, it's pretty much the same size as a gameboy pocket and thanks to sakura retromods it really looks like one too.
No retroachievements is what makes this a deal breaker for me - they need an updated version with wifi
Love the modification you did to this â€
A dedicated Gameboy would be neat. I remember buying one off my sibling when he upgraded. I don't use it anymore but it was purple and it was cool! I am glad i can emulate but it is not the same. Maybe l should get an ambernic 35xx it doesnt look that bad!
you can glue a screw standoff in the front shell so you can screw it by the back. can even align the standoff while gluing by screwing it down. it`s an idea to solve the front screw problem in the next project with the miyu mini.
Wow! Love this mod! đđ€
Anbernic does do the software part really well. They seem to understand that people donât want a text file systemâŠthey want game images and art, menu music, etc.
Thatâs actually really cool :)
I just ordered mine, I cant wait to play Pokémon emerald after years, as well as play games I never had the chance to as a kid because I didnt have any systems
Very cool! đŻ
I've been tinkering with putting a Miyoo Mini into a DMG case for a minute. I do not think it will fit into a Pocket, but if you can do it I'm stoked to see
It's best to use a stepped drill bit as it will cut better holes when sizing up holes and keeping things aligned.
"Also this video is not sponsored" Wait, what?! Crazy I know but I love the sponsorship on this channel.
It's like stoner sponsership. All good.
Iâm playing mine as this video comes out đ
I made one with raspberry cm3 and boxy pixel aluminium shell, I am in love
