I'm a student from Germany and during the middle of my bachelor's study I realized I loved linguistics. Now I'm trying to somehow integrate a linguistic approach into my major (Korean and Japanese Studies), although my university mostly just focuses on history, religion and literature studies. But since I'm still lacking a lot of the groundwork I'm now trying to bing introductory seminars to learn the basics. I'm glad there are universities like this that make these classes accessable to people like me

every time i hear some thing of the contents of linguistics im highly interested, i want to have a basic understanding
other than that im highly interested in learning and speaking languages, and everytime i watch some youtube video about differences and common features of languages they get more scientifical, hence more abstract and i could really use some basics to grasp this better, thats why im here! unfortunately i have barely any time, lets see..

Very interesting lecture. Even though I don't study linguistics you got me hooked :)
Also I will definitely watch more lectures on this topic since I need to have a break from learning Russian and Czech, and linguistics is something that I may seriously study in the future.

Many many things. You can do so many things with the linguistics degree, but here are some examples as to what: teaching English as a second language, speech therapy, speech pathology, advertising, translation, computer programming and coding, being an accent coach for celebrities, being an editor for books, magazines etc., decoding ancient and forgotten languages, become an author, and to help you learn foreign languages much easier. Those are the only ones I can think of at the top of my head haha. But linguistics can help a lot with pretty much any career path.

Linguistics grew out of philology, subcategory of philosophy. It’s just another discipline we are so curious as humans we drill down to the most narrow of ideas and we then begin to study it. If you don’t know what philology is its the study of language and history from different cultures examining texts scriptures all that

I'm autistic. Constructing language is very difficult for me. Linguistics makes the rules explicit, so I can still follow many of the rules, and communicate far more effectively. I'm sure this isn't the only disorder where linguistics helps, SaLT always seem pretty busy.
There's many other uses too, improving; translations, machine-produced language, and understanding of cultures past and present.
