- Twist delves into the motivations behind actions that outwardly appear as charitable and altruistic, emphasizing the importance of evaluating the morality of money and its uses. The intentions behind the dollar may be worth more than the dollar itself, and it is through a retelling of a powerful memory in garnering donations for hunger alleviation that she shows how money can be used to either help oneself or others.
For more than 40 years, Lynne Twist has been a recognized global visionary committed to alleviating poverty and hunger and supporting social justice and environmental sustainability. From working with Mother Teresa in Calcutta, to the refugee camps in Ethiopia and the threatened rainforests of the Amazon, Lynne’s on-the-ground work has brought her a deep understanding of the social tapestry of the world and the historical landscape of the times we are living in.

Money is like water, it flows, it cleans, it purifies, it cleanses, it rushes, it heals, it hyrdates others.
WHen it is held, it gets stagnants, it gets sick, it becomes poisionos and noxious, it doesn't get an opportunity to help others that don't have any water.
YOU DON"T NEED TOOOOO MUCH WATERRRRRR>
YOU NEED ENOUGH FOR WHAT YOU ARE DOING.
If you let go of getting more of what you already need, it EXPANDS.
What you appreciate, appreciates.
Wonderful
I’ll keep this in mind.
This is about the mindset of sufficiency and gratitude. I loved this talk it brought me to tears. “What you appreciate... appreciates.” Thank you for this wise and insightful talk
Such an amazing lesson. Thanks lady. You are a pro. Hats off..
💝💝💝
❤🙌
i would like to add satisfaction to sufficiency, appreciation and gratitude.
"What you appreciate, appreciates." Great talk Lynne!
Lynne, thank you. As someone who grew up poor, the first minute of this talk meant EVERYTHING.
I was spellbound. I feel changed & empowered but also humbled. I’m going to process & internalize this. Thank you Lynn & Gertrude!
I love and miss you, Lynne Twist.
Dear Lynne. I am cleaning out my “stuff” today. Letting go so others can enjoy what I’ve kept in boxes. And this Ted Talk came up. I wondered if this was The Hunger Project Lynne Twist.. (It sure looked like the beautiful Hunger Project Lynne Twist!). I soon learned that it is! You see, I worked at The Hunger Project for 6 months-could it possibly be almost 40 years ago! You sat down with me because I was struggling. I still have the handwritten piece of yellow paper you wrote up during our meeting-it was my “Well-being Project”. I’ve often mentally referred to that meeting as I’ve journeyed through my life to check back in when I’m feeling overwhelmed. So nice to be able to tell you that now. You were such a beautiful being then. And you still are. I am honored to have crossed paths with you so many years ago. And as usual, your talk is perfectly timed for me as I confront “retirement” and financial constraints. This is the perfect reminder. Thank you SO much!!
She comes across as a very humble and sincere speaker. Great talk!
Who can tell me the reason why this video just has 81k views?!
This talk is the greatest that I've ever heard!!
Contentment and sharing is a source of peace.
I could hear this lady talking for days. Very moving and wise.
One of the best TEd talk that I have ever listen to
I randomly stumbled upon this today.
By a large margin, this is at the top of my list as one of the most wholesomely beautiful and inspiring videos I have ever seen. I really needed to hear this.
I appreciate the speaker Lynne for dedicating so much to helping others, for this great presentation, and inspiring me. And Gertrude for sharing her wisdom that night at that church to Lynne, a carrier of hope.
I wholeheartedly agree!
This video actually deserves to be titled ....life changing
Absolutely true. We are enough. We have enough. Thank you
What you appreciate appreciates..
The $600.00 was worth more than $50,000.00!
I know how it feels. Sometimes I experience similar thoughts when I get gifts from different people. It's true that a $1.00 gift from a sincere and humble person, who gave it to me out of heart's desire, always feels more precious than a $1000.00 gift from a rich person, who could care less for me and gave me the gift out of duty.
Sweet story, beautiful woman!
What a wonderful analogy of money to water.....Thanks for sharing that life changing paradigm!
Ms Lynne Twist That Was Beautiful
True words. When huge money is hoarded it gets toxic.
I'm in tears.... beautiful. Thank you, really moving...
Money itself has no value. It is the energy and intention WE assign to money that gives it life. Better to activate our money with energy that affirms life instead of depreciating it. Thank you Lynne Twist for beautiful examples of this through your sharing from the heart.
money DOES have value. the very definition of money is something that is portable, divisible, and a store of value. PAPER FIAT CURRENCIES like the Dollar or Euro are not a store of value
Very moving topic, thank you.
Speaker's dramatic lecturing style is a big + sign for her presentation; I like every word of her speech.
Where was I back in last 5 years when this speech took place? 🤔
Truly moved by this talk! It proves that whatever you do with sincerity, truth & for the right reasons, is what truly adds value. Not things you do to look good or to alleviate guilt! Thank you for this inspiring lesson!
Bless your soul...Papito Dios is so good!
I'm surprised how few views this has had compared to other Ted talks.
Lynne's book is a game changer! Her interview on our podcast left us speechless! So much wisdom🙏
I was moved to tears and I won't forget. Thank you.
Definitely one of the best Ted talk I've heard of many, THANKS
Pure gold. One of the most valuable life lessons. What you appreciate appreciates. 👌 The most precious things in life are actually priceless
We call this baraka . If you donate if you help you will have more …. the more you give the more you will receive. In Arabic (or Muslim) countries we name this baraka, I’ve experienced it and it’s also about having a mindset open to give and to receive . The women you met said it all “money flows like water it’s a currency “
We have to be grateful for all the things we have if we appreciate them we will have this enoughness sense. Greetings from France 😊
This is the most touching TED talk ever. The way how the speaker thinks about money really moved me and changed my perception about money.
I would share it to people who are financially rich (a circumstance) but mentally poor (a state of mind) which I used to be.
wow ...moved to tears

I didn’t expect this to be as impactful as it was. I love when she said money flows through our lives and the word picture that comes with that statement. I already wrote that on my white board as a reminder to let goodness and generosity flow through my life and will be thinking how to apply this ❤

What a beautiful and moving talk ❤ it seems like those who don't have much, are always willing to give. And those that do have, seem to be scared, and hold onto what they have.
