Additionally, it is a plant genus that is generally quite easy to care for. In this video I try to give you all the information you need to successfully keep your ficus bonsai happy.

    I recommend glass / tank with plenty of light enclosure for the ficus cuttings to grow best

      Yes! Anything that mimics a tropical climate really jump starts any ficus cutting 😄

    Hello there, I have ficus microcarpa 1:24 can you please let me know what is the best fertilizer to thicken the stem? Your response is highly appreciated.

    • @ThatBonsaiGuy
      @ThatBonsaiGuy  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Actually the best thing to thicken the stem is to let the tree grow wild and not prune it back for a while. As any normal fertilizer will encourage growth you cannot go wrong there I think.

    Are some of the ficus species more likely to have aerial roots than others?

    • @ThatBonsaiGuy
      @ThatBonsaiGuy  Před rokem +2

      I had the most luck with benjamina and microcarpa. On ficus retusa I have not yet been successful

    Can you get a bare branch to grow some leaves?

    • @ThatBonsaiGuy
      @ThatBonsaiGuy  Před měsícem +1

      Yes, most ficus varieties can regrow leaves from bare branches (as long as the branch itself is not dead)

  • @kieranaziz6925
    @kieranaziz6925 Před rokem +1

    How will you remove the side roots of the ficus gensing?

    • @ThatBonsaiGuy
      @ThatBonsaiGuy  Před rokem

      The plan is to prune quite aggressively. I have already done that with some other roots on this tree and it has recovered nicely. But of course with this side roots I would probably need to carve closely to the trunk to give it the desired shape. Then the risk of an infection in the trunk may be higher.

      If you ever do that be sure to post it would love to see how you do it thanks.

      True, I actually have been lucky with back budding on my benjamina until now
