    Your Mares power fin reminds me of my Dacor graphite fins stiff as a board 30 yrs old and still kickin.

      Those were good fins as well, I have two pair of the old Dacor's

    Hi Brian . I love your videos and really appreciate what you do. I’m considering the mares Quattro or the Super channel. They look nearly identical so would really appreciate your view on differences etc .

    • @LakeHickoryScuba
      @LakeHickoryScuba  Před 2 lety

      Hello Litehamer. Here is my personal (and very biased) opinion on the difference of these two fins. The Mares Avanti Quattro (and the Avanti Quattro Plus) and the Super Channels are virtual identical in weight and size. The biggest difference is the blade design. The Avanti Quattro's (and the Quattro Plus's) have better response while using certain kick patterns. Though the Super Channels are designed to increase differential pressure during the up and down stroke of a flutter kick (and even the frog kick) creating more thrust, the response of the material is slightly less of that of the Avanti Quattro. It really boils down to, which one you would prefer based off looks. This is where my biased opinion comes in. I personally like the looks of the Avanti Quattro's better.
      Just a quick clarification on the models.
      Avanti Quattro's comes standard with the Mares ABS Buckles.
      Avanti Quattro's Plus comes standard with the Mares Bungee Straps.
      Depending on which lot the fins are purchased from, the Super Channels too come with both options as well. Straps on all three fins can be swapped to fit a divers preference.

      Your Welcome, stay tuned, my mask and snorkel selection will be next. Then I will start shooting on regulator, tanks, weights, and exposure suits.

    I would've liked to hear your critique on the Volo Power fin. How would you compare it to the others shown as far as performance and different environments?

    • @LakeHickoryScuba
      @LakeHickoryScuba  Před 5 lety

      Hello dixee, the Volo Power Fins are a great set as well. As far as price and functionality, they are very close to the X-Streams, so this is the biggest reason we stock them and not the Volo Powers.

    you have some collection of gear. i imagine it will be similar after a few more years for me too as i tend to collect lol. but for now i use the scubapro seawing gorilla fins (which remind me a little of the xstreams because of the hinge they both have) and the aqua lung x shot fins. also i love the bungee strap which they both have so much more than the buckle strap that my first set of fins (cressi pro light) had. they are so much more comfortable and easier to put on and take off.
    ps. dont know if you can tell but ive been binge watching your videos today lol. good stuff! 😊

      Thank You for the binge watching and the kind words. The gear displayed in the "My Personal Gear" series, is the gear that I currently use. I have been in the Scuba Industry since I was 12 years old and have accumulated so much gear, some strictly for nostalgia purposes. I have been fortunate enough to have sold all the big manufactures on the market. The last shop I worked at before opening the one that I currently co-own, we sold Mares, Sherwood, Zeagle, Hollis, Scuba Pro, Aqua Lung, Cressi, and OMS. Most shops around here sell for multiple manufactures and constantly battle over pricing all the time. We decided to only carry 1 main brand so that we would not have to compete with other shops. We chose Mares for 2 main reasons, one they are world wide, and 2 they are a sister company to SSI, which we are a Diamond facility for. I can honestly say, all manufactures make great gear, and I haven't really found any that I did not trust.

      LakeHickoryScuba ahhh. the shop here that i got into diving with (i only started 2 years ago im still a rookie sort of) sells all the brands too i never really thought about any issues they might have with that. tho thats interesting for sure. but ya so now i have equipment of pretty much all the brands lol except my main stuff is scuba pro because they had a full kit (bc, regs, octo, computer, compass) that they sell all together so i got that. but all my other equipment is all different brands except for ironically Mares lol.

    • @Lionheart2323
      @Lionheart2323 Před 7 lety

      LakeHickoryScuba but i definitely agree there arent any "bad" scuba manufacturers they all make good stuff.

    • @LakeHickoryScuba
      @LakeHickoryScuba  Před 7 lety

      Scuba Pro makes awesome gear as well. Ironically, people think they are an American Company, the truth is, they are Italian and are right across the street from Mares in Italy. Mares and Scuba Pro are the industry leaders. This of course doesn't mean that the other brands aren't good, I like all of them personally.

    • @LakeHickoryScuba
      @LakeHickoryScuba  Před 7 lety

      I always think of it like this, if it was bad gear, then it wouldn't be allowed on the market. It all allows you to breath underwater. The main goal a diver should focus on is, which gear does he or she feel the most comfortable with. Once he finds that set, then that is what he or she should dive with.

      Hello Albert, I have used the ABS Buckles, the Bungee Straps, and the Spring Straps. I currently have Spring Straps on all my fins. They tend to work best for me.

    Can any body tell me what the plastic peice inside the pocket do? And is it come with all versions of mares avanti quattro?

    • @LakeHickoryScuba
      @LakeHickoryScuba  Před 6 lety

      Its a fin insert. They are designed to help keep the shape of the foot pocket. I always put them back in my fins as soon as I get out of the water.

    Can the mares x-stream be used without boots? Or this is a model to be used only with boots?

  • @MrTigertennis
    @MrTigertennis Před 7 lety

    I have the mares avanti quattro plus and I'm thinking about purchasing the mares x stream but I am seeing some negative reviews. Is there any guidance you can offer me on the subject? I am new to diving and plan to primarily dive in south fl, the caribbean, the springs in central fl, and in the Quarry here in the Atlanta area where I live. Thank you for your time. Also can you frog kick in the mares x streams?

    • @LakeHickoryScuba
      @LakeHickoryScuba  Před 7 lety

      MrTigertennis The Mares X-Streams are a great set of fins, and if used correctly are very efficient underwater. As far as using them for Frog Kicking, it can be done, but they are not designed for it. With the OPV built into the blade, they tend to have to much flex during the stretch part of the Frog Kick.

      I have been using the X-streams for 4 years, I'm having a hard time frog kicking with them. I'm thinking of trying the quattros fins. The x-stream are great fins but wanting to try something else that might be easier to use. I don't find them very powerful. Maybe its just me.

      The Quattros would be a great choice if you are looking to upgrade.

    It takes an act of congress to tear them up ? 😂 Do you need alot of leg strength to use the Power Planas ?

    • @LakeHickoryScuba
      @LakeHickoryScuba  Před 6 lety +1

      If you are doing a traditional flutter style kick, I would say so, but they are designed more so for a frog style kick.
