If BYD atto 3 can meet safety standards in Australia, New Zealand, Europe & Thailand, but cannot meet the safety standard in US, there is something wrong with US regulators, nothing wrong about BYD atto 3.
BYD's hybrid power system is currently the best in the world, even better than Japan's. In addition to BYD's blade battery, BYD manufactures all core automotive components in-house, including motors, engines, electronic control systems, batteries, and all core components. The parts are all made by ourselves, so the cost can be kept very low, which is very cost-effective.
Huh ? Which BYd is available ? You mean the bus ? Or that BYD E6 taxi in montreal that never expanded beyond a pet project , probably due to political interference ....

PHEV technology is a hidden gem. I've been driving Chevy Volts for ten years. GM stopped making those, but the beauty is the 50 mile electric range. I've yet to see any new PHEVs that have that much.
Considering the warranty and cost overall, BYD is the winner, enough for daily using or off-road using, plus, it has 6kw output power, that can support your camping power or even use it for driving large electric tools

Starting price for $53K equivalent for a midsize is honestly a lot higher than I expected. I expected something in the $35K or at most mid $40K range (starting price of a Tacoma hybrid). Remember in Mexico a base Hilux starts at $20K equivalent so BYD is twice as much Yet its towing and payload a lot less, no solid axle means it is never gonna be as off-road capable. It uses e-CVT rather than traditional torque converter automatic. Its 30kwh or so battery is stored not in the interior like the Wrangler 4XE or TNGA-F product but outside underneath the cab. So repairing and replacing on that battery will take longer and cost more money. Some of the biggest problem of the BYD DMO platform. This is not the game change that some people hyped up to be
EPA is irrelevant for this truck as its not going to be sold in US. I dont think US would allow it to be imported or tax it so much that its irrelevant.
@@matthewhuszarik4173 if they make it in Mexico they can for now. But it has to be certified to be operated here. I doubt that will happen. I also expect US to exempt Chinese owned companies from NAFTA for sure. That is already intimated. Plus if Trump wins, NAFTA is toast for sure.
BYD already has a factory in California making buses. Maybe they can expand it to make trucks. And then move to Texas because it costs so much to do business in California.
Feng Chang Bao is awesome! The Panther 5 or 7? The Russians absolutely love it!!!! I think the Yang Wang U8 is also based on the FengChang Bao! ALL subsideries of BYD!
The only way you can get one BYD truck in the US is, (I think) if you have double citizenship. Buy it like Mexican, in drove it into the US, from TJ or Monterrey. Tj has 2 dealerships and MTY has 7. Very good Shark specs also.
Ford is cooked, their response is with the lil baby 45km of electric range Ford Ranger that's not even out yet cus they can't compete on manufacturing. Even Toyota plug in hybrid's have at least 65km of electric range.
My concern is privacy concerns with China. Also their build quality and battery safety is something that will have to be looked into but more competition is always better!
Hopefully they don't go through with 100% tariff for imported EVs. It would make this car well over 100k for the reason that US car companies cannot compete at the price range while offering similar specs.
Overpriced for only having a 30 kwh battery, but definitely would make a great truck for towing if you could buy it in the USA. But then again the American electric trucks are so overpriced also
I was gonna get a BYD Atto 3 here in Australia for 45K AUD (sale price, normally 52K). But I learnt that they sell the same vehicle, newer model Atto 3 (Yuan Plus in China) for 26K AUD. The markup is astronomical. You don't get what you pay for with these cheap Chinese vehicles. That said, it will be interesting to see their price for the Shark at the end of the year in Aus.
Stupid to compare Chinese price, You can also get a Tesla model 3 for 40k AUD vs 63K in Australia. You can get a ICE RAV 4 for 27k in China also. BYD atto 3 is one of the cheapest EV in Australia and one of the better ones too.
@weiwei8072 You don't understand my point. It's not just about the prices, it's about the quality of the car and its components. The Atto 3 price is around 15K USD to make in China where as Tesla Model Y cost around 30K USD. The Atto 3 are sold here from 30K USD. Model Y are sold here from 40K USD. So when an Australian consumer pays for the huge markup of the BYD versus Tesla, you don't get what you pay for.
They used hybrid systems on all offroad capable models, I guess their logic is that if you need to go offroad, you'll likely need range and the ability to operate in areas with little or no charging infrastructure.
I think the reason for the ICE connected to the wheels is for the towing. A pure electric drive towing up a hill for a long time requires a lot of electrical generation. The ram charger has a very large engine to cover this scenario but the shark with a small turbo engine pushing the vehicle for the extended heavy load with the assistance of the electric drive maybe the better option. I'm not sure how the Ram charges but if it has 2 electrical motors one of them will need to be a generator under high load. The shark in theroy could use ICE for driving and generating at the same time with the rear just driving when needed.
So all of a sudden China is able to produce high quality cars and trucks? I have serious doubts. Cheap, yeah probably, but not at the same level as manufacturers who have been doing this for many decades and selling globally. BYD started selling in Europe in the 2020s. So I am not holding my breath.
😀Ask Mercedes BMW and Audi. Their average selling price dropped 25% last year. Porsche sale dropped over 30% this year in China. Chinese rich people are turning to Yangwang by BYD and AITO by Huawei. Petrol cars are less than 40% in major cities. All BYD cars sold to Europe are just outdated version with at least 50% more expensive than China.

Objectively, the next 10 years of car sales will demonstrate how behind the times certain mainstream (formerly American) car manufacturers are becoming, as younger companies like BYD take over the global market.
I have no idea why BYD is worthy any discussion, it will not have good quality at all. One simple fact, their worker base salary is 2000 rmb a month, but their average pay is 9000 rmb a month, which they work 7000 rmb a month of over time. If you expect good quality vehicles out of stressed worker who work well over 160 hours per week you are out of your damn mind.
One simple fact, their worker base salary is 2000 rmb a month -- what a joke. BYD recruited 36000 graduates last year, with 80% bachelors and masters. Key bridge, remember? Waterproof cars save lives, and EVs can be easily waterproof. The American military cannot resist the benefits of electric vehicles. Otherwise, the US soldiers will have to drive internal combustion vehicles to fight the Chinese driving EVs. The power is one reason, the small heat signature is two, easy waterproof is three, the small noise is four, and the small cost is five. The list goes on and on. Two things must be considered regarding a war between the US and China since they have already changed warfare: drones and electric vehicles. In these two areas, the US and China are close, and maybe China is slightly ahead of the US. For example, an electric tank is practically infrared stealth compared with an internal combustion tank. After all, the tank's engine is a huge heat source and a target. I am quite sure that the Chinese military will drive electric vehicles, if not already. Now, BYD makes cars in Mexico. The Mexican police will soon drive electric cars to chase criminals' multimillion-dollar sports cars. As a result, the drug dealers must also drive electric cars.
