This gun's mods turned it into that Starter Pistol in every shooter. It sucks at first, but if you stick with it and upgrade it. It becomes a tactical nuke launcher, and the most OP weapon in the game.
Fun fact, a lot of commercial flare guns are (or were) the same way. Sort of. The most common, the Orion, can technically accept a 12ga shell. They’re also plastic and WILL explode in your hand. Even the metal ones aren’t made to take the kind of pressure actual ammunition produces.

I modded mine so it would open further that way the shells would be easier to extract, and it also had the side effect of being able to eject the shells.
The idea of being able to fire Mega, Elite, and Hyper rounds from a Rival blaster is indeed a tempting prospect, which is is why I picked one up after seeing Part 1.

I think most of the felt recoil is the charging handle retracting. It is powerful yes, but most of the moving mass is in the handle.
