This is the world's biggest and best aquascape. Florestas Submersas is a Takashi Amano's giant Nature Aquarium in Lisbon, Portugal and was created by a team of aquascapers in 2015. It was the same year Amano sadly died. This was an emotional film for me to make. Takashi Amano is the entire reason I discovered my passion for planted tanks and aquascaping.
I hope I do this beautiful aquascape the justice it deserves in this video.
Let me know what you think.
Keep on scaping!

If I am born a fish the next life...i cboose to live here.
I've been there several times. In one of them the room was empty, so I was completely alone, and the feelings still remain.
The slow music, the dim light, the sound of the water...
I've never experienced such an astonishing level of inner peace before.
You should have a lil smaller version at home then ;)
Maybe you should just...(free)dive?
Have a link??
czcams.com/video/PcFhfqKMS-A/video.html..
then from out of nowhere a fart broke the peace
This aquarium is so big that I guess, many fishes haven't even seen the whole tank yet. They have different territories inside a single tank.
Have you interviewed one of them?
derayend 1st yeah. Did you have a little chitchat with them?
You'll have to have a Nato to settle any disputes
Imagine if the fish is looking his friend.
🐟: hey Bob, did you see Jim?
🐠: haven't see him for 2 days
amazing right
Finally, a worthy tank for my common pleco.
You might even be able to fit a single betta in there with it
@Jamey Craig cats cant breathe underwater though

I just kept thinking, "damn those are some lucky fish."
Ikr, I hope one day, some life out there will catch us and put us in a tank-like environment, but for humans, and one of them will also say "damn, those are some lucky humans"
Yea I’m sure if I was a fish I’d much rather be in a tank like that than in a ocean that covers most of the world
@@JohnDoe-pb5cx This is a fish tank with everything the fish needs and more. When put in good conditions fish in captivity actually live longer and healthier lives then fish in the wild. Mainly due to water quality and no predators.
When it comes to fish they actually thrive in captivity when done right. Now for actual animals. Hmmm not so much.
Henry Lin I’m sure your answer is back by science and is complete facts. They probably are healthier and live longer. But not to sound corny, they probably would enjoy a shorter life in the beautiful giant ocean than in a glass box
Henry Lin and by the way I love Aquascape just not with fish
“Creating nature is the ultimate luxury" -Takashi Amano
czcams.com/video/PcFhfqKMS-A/video.html..
such a beautiful quote
Except that real nature doesn't need maintenance...
Imagine being born as a Siamese Algae Eater in this tank. Humungous space, plenty of food, lots of friends, no predators --chill life. Reincarnation dream; maybe Takashi is already in there.
That sure would b my dream tank if i were a fish...amazing unbelievable tank, cant even call it a tank
Avram Martinez it's not a tank, it's a beautiful lake with glass walls to show the beauty of the contents inside
I'm sure Takashi would throw you out of his tank because he doesn't want you to eat parts of his creation.
When I saw the thumbnail I knew exactly where it was since I have been there it is magical
Or a corydora
''I'll go do a waterchange, be back in 1 month!''

this tank requires tons of maintenance
just get a few pleco's

We look at this massive Aquascape and think "Oh wow, it is massive and beautiful, I only have a 10 gallon aquascape with tiny little fish in it"
When ants look at your 10 gallon aquascape they think "Oh wow, it is massive and beautiful, this is enough to make me happy"
My point is although our smaller tanks may seem boring to some of us, we must be grateful that we can keep such beauty even in the smallest of fish tanks.
i created a walstad method 5 gallon aquascape with 11 plants and driftwood. it looks so amazing
Everyone starts small to see if they can keep them and if your really into it. Then you slowly get bigger if you want , i started witrh a 10 gallon guppy tank when i was 8 now i'm 55 and have a 185 gallon reef

Wait, you can speak to ants?
it is really a shame that this talented and creative man died from Pneumonia at only 61 years of age. He accomplished so much during his life. It can only make one wonder what we never got to experience.
Have been there in September 2018 on a Sunday two hours before they close. Just me and my wife. Nobody else. One of my best experience ever!
Do you happen to know when the exhibition closes for good? I live in the US and haven't been able to go yet. According to their homepage it's still open. When I contacted them in 2017 they had plans to close it in September/October 2017 but then extended it.
Sounds great, Jens 💚
Agent GUN the exhibition is marked as temporary, but I believe it won’t be taken down shortly. I’ve asked the same question to one of the staff members as I plan a second visit and she told me that she isn’t aware of any closing date. However I would recommend to email the center management for a valid answer.
You two are very lucky!
@@guttedxx For sure. Wish i had the time and money to go see this in person as its out of this world.
"They told me 20% water change once a week would be easy"
For these, it would be actually. there's a whole nother tank in the back room where the water goes to be filtered. You simply take the water out of that one, and replace it with new water. That said, I feel like this thing does alot of the cleaning all on it's own.

I was in Lisboa and saw this at the oceanarium. It damn well moved me to tears, and I didn’t know much about Takashi Amano or aquariums in general. It was one of the most breathtaking things I ever saw.
I saw the video where Takashi along with the team was putting it together. He must be proud of this masterpiece wherever he is resting, knowing that it is thriving. ❤️❤️
A pilgrims homage to the cathedral of aquascaping and the legacy of Amano san. Simply beautiful. Thank you for sharing your journey, George.
Thanks Paul 🙏
Great One George..Fantastic Tribute to The GREATEST AQUASCAPE ARTIST Of ALL TIME.....Takashi....RIP.
I’m usually amazed by reef tanks and how beautiful they are but this... wow
I would never leave this place❤❤❤❤❤❤
I will not allow myself to die untill I have been standing in aw in front of this miraculous aquarium.
Do it. It will be one of your best. I flew down to Portugal to see this and spent the whole day in front of this 8th wonder of the world. I am longing back.
Dear George, I am so happy you were able to visit this place... It is so Beautiful I think I could cry.

Definitely adding this to the list of places I need to visit before I die. I can only imagine the level of care that goes into maintaining this work of art every single day.
i wanted to meet the legend once...but never :(
his works will inspire forever...
Thanks George!
Takashi Amano was the reason I got into aquascaping and nature aquariums. This is a very emotional video for me, too, he was my teacher and guide. The biggest tanks I owned were 2100L and 1800L.
I habe been there last year and yes, it is a truly magical place.
Especially the left part with all these Rotalas and Ludwigias had a great impact on me.
To see them in such amounts with so much space around is just stunning 😍
The reflection on top of the water makes it look like a scape on top of a scape. Definitely a must see thanks for sharing !!!
I remember visiting this place on a whim years ago and just wanting to sit in the room for a long while. Up close there are so many amazing little spaces and layers it also got me interested. It was the my favourite part about visiting Lisbon.
Your video absolutely did this amazing piece of art justice! This is spectacular. Watching this brought tears to my eyes. This is absolutely on my bucket list of things to see in my lifetime.
R.I.P Takashi Amano. :(
This is so calming and overwhelming at the same time, but I can totally stare at it for days.. literally.. Thanks so much for sharing this special experience!
Thank you Takeshi Amano for making this world beauty with your works. Your ideas will live forever, Rest in peace
I have been to lisbon but had no idea this existed, thanks for sharing, I now have a reason to go there another time.
Every time I see this aquascape, my eyes get filled with tears in the memory of Takashi Amano. I still remember the day when I came to know about his sad demise but also happy that he has left his legacy this amazing aquascape before he passed away. Thanks George for sharing this.

Thanks George for reminding us of this fantastic tank, the plants look spectacular and it certainly gives us a good idea of potential sizes underwater of some plant species - if you ever visit again, a behind the scenes exploration of equipment and regime would be great.
I wanted to see this aquarium since Amani helped created it as his final masterpiece. I literally cried when I got inside the building and saw it. The music, the incredible views, the fact it was Amano’s last work, it all added up, and I couldn’t contain the tears. Such a beautiful tank.
Even after four long years the tank looks absolutely gorgeous..This is truly a work of art by our Maestro Amano san and all the other talented Aquascapers across the globe. Thanks George for this one..

There is nothing quite as calming, quite as mentally, spiritually and emotionally uplifting, and quite as sublime, as, a beautiful and esquisitely put together aquarium.

I've seen many things in my 72 years George and your video of Amano's work and those of your own are among the most beautiful. I feel very privileged, thanks.
Hi George, so happy that you’ve made this special video on what has to be the best aquarium in the world. I can see why, as a professional aquascaper, you would get emotional. It is without doubt a thing of beauty, created by the Master of the hobby. If he was still with us ,who knows what he could have done next , but sadly we will never know. What we do have is the wealth of knowledge and the images of the work that he created over the years. We also have this stunning masterpiece, a fitting legacy to the world of underwater nature, what a beautiful tranquil way to spend 11.40 minutes of my life . Thank you for sharing it with us. All the best, Martin
Haven't even started watching and already excited. George. Your certain to do this one justice. Always enjoying your videos when I have time to.
Did you only have 11:40 seconds to live?

Epic is right George. It astounds me how things we see as "simple" like ludwigia repens, or hygrophilas and java ferns in our home aquariums take on seemingly another meaning at this scale. Each shot I found myself thinking more and more about how immense volume of one plant changes something I perceive as simple into something inspiring. I'm so glad you got to make this trip and I hope one day I can do the same. Stay awesome my friend!
Bentley tell me when you're ready to go and I'll pack my bags! I absolutely love the way the fish feel so small and as if they are flying. I wonder if there is a species list posted somewhere. Also...think about the maintenance work getting all those thin stem plants or dead leaves out of there, must take... annnd the sand alone
Thanks guys 🙏
