A proper elephant corridor should be established. Compensation should also be compassionately looked into by the Govt. The issue is animal - human conflict. I don't think the elephants were being intentionally destructive. This requires proper animal -human conflict management. We are most probably encroaching into their food areas. What is the Govt and the concerned Dept doing about animal management? We have so many qualified officers in the Dept.

Can’t remove neither the humans nor the elephants from the picture. The only way forward is for landowners to donate parts of their lands to build a proper, large enough elephant sanctuary for these poor trapped creatures. The only reason these animals are trampling around these fields is because their natural corridors and habitats have been lost to human exploitation and expansion. And likewise, the humans have nowhere else to start their farms and plantations but on the soil that lies ahead of them. And the elected officials should be ready to disperse large enough sums of money to the landowners for their lands, and the elephants for their rehabilitation. Nagaland forest department is by far one of the most lax departments compared to their counterparts in other states. What a shame for the state to be unable to protect and coexist with their wildlife.
