  • This video shows how to put the headlights of a UK Z4 E85 (right hand drive) into European driving mode, or indeed anywhere where they drive on the right!
    Tip: It's much easier to get the rear panels off the light assembly with the car jacked up a few inches!

    Sat in Ferry queue at Portsmouth, reading page 84 (Laws &Regs) of Z4 E85 Owner's Handbook. Thankfully, your video will save me from dreaded stickers!
    Right hand drive cars: up for Euro, down for UK. Opposite for LHD.

    Do you reckon this would work on 2010 Audi A5 xenons?

  • @Amazingfeet

    my levers are up, when moved it down the beam pattern went to the right which would blind uk drivers so i kept it in the up position!

    Thanks for this. I drive an 08 3.0SI. Am I to understand that Brit Zeds with xenon headlights are too bright for the continent ?

    • @db_motors
      @db_motors  Před 7 lety +1

      jafxdwg No problem. I didn't think finding that lever was all that obvious. So when I did find it, I thought I'd share a vid! I don't think the issue is the brightness, it's the beam pattern. Because we drive on the left, the pattern projects left so you can see the verge / kerb. However, when you're on the continent driving on the right, this would blind everyone coming the other way! This lever adjusts the beam so it doesn't project too far left.

      Can't remember - apologies if I didn't cover this in the video. This discussion on pistonheads suggests up for EU, down for UK: www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&t=572016
      "slides vertically to blank off the top of the beam pattern"
      It's pretty obvious once you've put it in EU mode - there's a big hole in your beam when driving on the left.

      @@db_motors Having the same problem locating the lever in the right hand light and also removing the rear cover completely. Don't want to force the cover. and break or dislodge anything. I was wondering though if it is located on the far side of the main beam which would make sense if the blanking plate was located there to the left of the light itself. Can you confirm? The left hand light was a piece of cake by the way so many thanks for posting the video
