Congratulations Judy! I have been watching your channel for a while but hadn't seen this one. You are an excellent teacher who always backs up your ideas with clear examples from your own body of work. I hadn't a clue about your journey and am so surprised to hear about your doubts and insecurities even after art school. So many of us who haven't had a formal art education feel is one of our biggest stumbling blocks. May you win many more kudos for both your art and your great inspiration!

Judy, I loved the videos of yours that have populated my feed long before I became aware that this one existed. For whatever reason I bypassed this one every time it came up. This morning I took the plunge and watched and I can honestly say it's easy become one of my all time favourites of any CZcams video.
What I love:
Although I've not been, I'm aware of the cultural nuances of New Zealand, the sense of community and the sense of "small fish in a big pond" I hope I have enough time left to visit
How you shared your journey - the art school beginnings, defaulting to an office clerk position, and then tackling teaching where you found the first of "your people". Like me I'm willing to bet many viewers are able to connect with similar life scenarios.
I honestly had tears running down my face as you explained your time on the awards zoom call, and the sense of overwhelm you must have felt as each subsequent winner was called until suddenly...
That you had a supportive partner standing by ("wooop")
That you weren't prepared with some overdone and crafted thank you, and finally
That you have continued your journey in a meaningful way including sharing your talent with art in a way that only someone who has experience teaching others can do
What troubled me:
I'm tired of the continual growth of institutional BS comprised of judgmental rhetoric -- I have spoken openly about "certifying bodies" in more than one field and avoid them like the plague -- how can an art school not have a focus on basics? how can you be pushed into art history when that was neither an area of interest or what you actually needed????
Let me conclude by saying your story is an inspirational one. The way you've shared it speaks to your humble nature making your contribution, award and your work all the more amazing. Be well!
