    I’ve worked on my own cars for over 30 years, and every time I watched you pull yet another stack of gears out of this transmission, I gasped in horror at how utterly impossible it would be for me to reassemble something like that. Your work amazes and terrifies me.

      It looks complicated, but it used planetary gear, so it's different from what traditional automatic transmission , I won't say it's simple, but it's not as difficult as they used to be, and Gary please don't come after me, 🥰🥰🥰, and also i think it's the best automatic transmission since the invention of automatic transmission.

    Maybe put the tail piece, extension housing, back on it after removing the seal, snap-ring, and spacer. That way you can set the transmission into a pan that's on the floor. That'd be way better than climbing up onto the table itself.

      Oreilly's for example has a "World" fluid that supposedly covers Audi's and their 6 speeds in their Q5' for example.. it's a Dexron 6 but the supposed requirement is stated to be a "special" fluid like this one. is it bad putting it in neutral while going down hill at high speed ?

    • @AntagonistInPhoenix
      @AntagonistInPhoenix Před 3 lety +1

      That’s a REALLY bad idea for 2 reasons.
      1. That is horrendously unsafe to do as the only thing that will be helping you stop are your brakes, under normal drive operation the engine actually helps slow your vehicle down along with your brakes. With all that load 100% on your brakes they could seize or even be insufficient at stopping all that force.
      2. You never want to shift an automatic from neutral into drive while moving as that puts awful stress on small parts of the transmission that could easily break, which if you’re going downhill you’d have to wait until you reach a complete stop to shift back into gear to not risk breaking any of the fragile components that are put under major stress. A fully manual transmission does not have this issue BUT is still a horrendous idea because of point 1 - it’s incredibly dangerous.

I recently purchased a BMW 535d N57 D30 from 2011, VIN C587103 with 100k km. with precisely that automatic transmission ZF 8HP70HIS, for reasons of preventive maintenance I asked to change the oil in the box supposedly by a specialist, the fact is that the box looks strange! In low ratios it makes a small delay and jolt in the passages and in low rotation until 90 km / h when lifting the foot of the accelerator, after accelerating again it seems that it chokes. suspect the box has a problem. I also don't want to leave the car at that "specialist" again for fear of causing even more problems. I am convinced that he does not understand anything. As I am passionate about this type of technology and this engineering fascinates me... I saw in your videos, I understand by watching it in your videos you know what you are talking about ... then ask to try to understand what is going on. in the first case it seems to me that the oil replacement was not properly performed, also he didn't perform a second oil level check ... anyway... greetings from Portugal too... and courage with the situation C19 there in NY. The car was very mildly modified and at only 6,000 miles the HP70 went and the reason code was 5th gear failure. Wow! Great video! I have a ram 1500 with this transmission in it that’s having problems that no one around my area can seem to diagnose. I’m from Mississippi and the ram dealer of course just wants to sell me a new transmission. But when the truck is cold and I start driving it, the engine surges about 200-300 rpms faster about every 10-15 seconds until the transmission gets to about 160 degrees, also it has a shutter to it when climbing hills, especially at lower rpms and when towing a trailer. It has 110k miles on it and I’ve changed the trans fluid with zf fluid with no change. Also there are no trouble codes with engine or trans. I recently had the ram dealership completely update and reprogram the computer with no change. Is there anything you can suggest for me to check or do you know what could be causing this or how to fix it? I first noticed the surging when warming up would go away around 120 degrees but has gradually started taking until operating temperature to go away but it just recently started shuttering. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

      @@GaryFerraro It’s not really slipping, just shutters mainly when it gets a load on it like pulling up a hill or after stopping at a light or stop sign, but it also seems to do it right after a shift as well while gaining speed. I don’t ever notice the slipping/shutter when driving on flat ground at speed, only on hills or gaining speed from a stop. Didn’t know if maybe it could be just the torque converter or not? Oh and also when I first noticed it, I took it to the dealer at around 75k miles and asked about changing the fluid and they told me it was lifetime fluid so not to worry about it, but now it’s getting too annoying to ignore.

      @TheXone7 Před 3 lety

      @@GaryFerraro Hi Gary. The car is Audi A6 2013 Bitdi 313ps. Before the trans was sliping 1-2, 2-3 only when cold, first few kilometers. That was the only single problem, no jerking, smooth shifting as butter otherwise. It has 245k km. ZF repair shop opened it and found out that the fluid was never ever changed and oil was burned dark. They had to replace all clutches, oil pump, clutch baskets, planetary gears, torque converter. All together over 6000 EUR in costs. Mechatronic was completely refurbished (new solenoids as well) and tested fully OK. All was put together and when I got it back it is making the following: 1-2 at around 1800rpm and around 50% power it jerks and then the rpm continue and it shifts by 2000rpm. Very slight almost non existent jerk 2-3 around 1800rpm and then shift at 2000rpm. 5-6 the same however the jerk is slightly less prominent than 1-2 jerk. 1-2 jerk strength depends on the situation and the speed how I try to accelerate. With more gas power it jerks 2000rpm stronger and shifts lets say 2300rpm. However when I give it even more power or manually try to shift above 2200 rpm it does not jerk anymore before shifting and the same when I give it quite slight gas pedal, it is smoothly shifting. The fill pressure figures after adaptation for A, B, C, D clutches are fine, however clutch E ends up always -680 or -700 mbar. ZF say it should be OK however I read in Audi service manuals for 6HP which can also be used for 0BK/8HP tiptronics as of adaptation, that the correct value should be -400 to 400 mbar. But noone can confirm this. Perhaps 8HP has wider allowance of pressure levels. Right after the adaptation the jerking does not happen. I always do full adaptation - at least 6x clutch adapts and 3 times fast fill pressure adaptations so the shifting is smooth. The jerking starts lets say 500km after the adaptation and is prominent when the fluid is hot and almost non existent when little warm or cold. Very very slightly I can sense a hesitatiom at those 1800rpm when fluid is cold. Mechatronics was checked 2nd time after the rebuild of entire trans and found 0 issues. There are also no error codes. The SW version stayed the same as before when the trans was not jerking even though with burned fluid and heavily used internal parts - H16 1006. So it must be something which was replaced by new parts. Or could it be the new ZF original totque converter with some kind of production error? No one knows what is causing the jerks before shifting 1-2 and 5-6 mostly. It makes me
      frustrated because the rebuild took 3 months and the 2nd mechatronic check another 2 months and cost a lot of money. I would appreciate any idea, which might help me identify the issue. Perhaps even after the full couple hour adaptation I should drive 1000km with very light gas? Thanks!!
