    I freeze juice bottles of water. lay down the non skid liner on shelves, lay the containers on the side. They don't slide around. Gets the fridge cold and when ice melts, you have fresh clean drinking water.

    I do similar. I keep rotating frozen water bottles between the freezer to the bottom of the frig as needed. This keeps you in a good supply of ice cold water all the time. I also mounted two 8" fans at the top access panel back of the frig. I also mount two smaller 3" fans inside the frig aimed at the condenser fins located below the freezer section, near the top shelf of the frig. All this air movement makes it so the frig isn't constantly fighting the warmer air.

      That is great to know, I know there are many that struggle with these fridges. I finally gave up the battle and went to a dorm style fridge. I added 200 watts of solar, to run it on. I am a VERY happy camper now. Fridge is cold in 20 minutes, much more space,,, I could go on and on, food for thought, if you are tired of the battle too

    I'm type II diabetic, and my insulin comes every 90 days in a box with several of those ice packs, which I just throw out. We also subscribe to "Hello Fresh" meal box service, which we get once a week, and those boxes have a couple of really large ice packs.
    So, I throw out a ton of these packs weekly. Find a friend or neighbor who also gets box dinners and volunteer to take their packs off them.

    I think replacing that insulation with steel is bad idea because the steel acts as a heat sink. But I like the idea of the fan on the back. I have a PC fan inside my refrigerator that runs off 12 volt (about .2 amps and completely silent), its powered with 400 watts of solar panels. It takes about 8 hours get the refrigerator cold now.

    I got a bunch of those freezer packs from the doctors office and they seem to stay cold longer than those blue freezer packs you get at the store. I also use a little battery powered fan that just sits on the shelf inside the refrigerator that uses 2 D cell batteries and their supposed to circulate the air inside the frig so there aren't any hot spots. I read on some RV forums where a lot of people use them and it seems to help.

      That what i use 64 oz. juicy juice bottles they fit perfect in the door section. and stay frozen for days. Just remember to fill them 3/4 full and freeze laying down, if you don't the ice will expand and won't fit in door after frozen. And when they thaw you have drinking water.

    Before trips we like to precook and freeze some stuff like stackable cartons of chili, soup, rice etc at home. Most of them go in the RV freezer. but some of them go in the RV refrigerator frozen. They thaw, in route and help keep other things cold. Frozen steaks work too.

    • @davesrvchannel4717
      @davesrvchannel4717  Před 7 lety +2

      every fridge requires steak! That is a must. You are right that buying frozen or putting frozen helps the fridge stay cool. We usually get a couple of TV dinners when we first get somewhere. I put them in fridge opposed to freezer. Let them thaw out in there, also cuts down on cook time. Thanks for great comment, and watching!

    I usually just freeze as much of the food as I can and put it in the fridge when we leave. By the time we get set up in camp the fridge is cold and the stuff isn't thawed completely. I also cook some of the meat like for tacos, casserole, the veggies. I also dehydrate veggies to save on possible bad veggies.

    It is easier to just follow the refrigerator instructions and freeze or chill your food before you load your RV fridge and hit the road.

    • @davesrvchannel4717
      @davesrvchannel4717  Před 7 lety +4

      very true, putting hot food in there would be a bad idea. However, instructions also say to turn on a day before use. If you are going on a long drive, that will not work for most. As its not very safe having propane on while in transit. Also if its 85 degrees outside, as you drive down the road, the 2 vents for the fridge will be blowing 85 degree air all around it causing it to heat right back up.

    • @Josef_R
      @Josef_R Před 5 lety

      Why can't you run it before you go on your long drive? Like your instructions said...it'll stay cold for 8 hours of driving.

  • @fabricator7973

    You have to pay to freezer packs, you pay to freeze ice, or buy ice. I simplify the process by keeping My Rv plugged in to AC in my yard. Cost about 1$ per month for electricity. Plus I can retreat anytime to get a cold beer, or ice for a Mint Julip. Always have a working, cold refrig, ready to roll in a minutes notice, even if just to escape the house or catch my favorite TV show.
    So much easier than chasing and freezing my own ice packs and saves space in refrig for Beer or milk.

    • @davesrvchannel4717
      @davesrvchannel4717  Před 7 lety +2

      Thanks for watching and comment. I have read and heard mixed opinions on keeping plugged in full time. Some saying the power inverter cannot take the full time use. Also some I have read say that having batteries overcharged by keeping it plugged in has been an issue. With that said, how long have you been keeping yours plugged? Also what year is your RV? Have you had any issues keeping it plugged in full time? Only reason I have done it other way, I don't like traveling with propane running, my fridge is only propane or electric, will not operate on battery alone.

    Sounds like you might need a new fridge if it takes that much work to cool it down and keep it cool. My fridge cools down in less than one day with nothing in it. I then place all of “pre cooled” items in the fridge. I also use a small fan inside the fridge to circulate the air. It runs off 2 D batteries.

  • @ObamaoZedong
    @ObamaoZedong Před 6 lety

    Wonder if I attached some reflectix inside the fridge, not on the door, but touching the door when it's closed. I'm thinking of having it cover the bottom half of the fridge opening so that when I open the door, all that cool air doesn't jumo out the bottom.

    They also ship insulin in a small Styrofoam cooler with about four freezer packs... some are labeled A and some are labeled B. I have kept them in boxes and have I don't really know... I have gave some to be brother but he only will take so many. If anyone would want any of them they are FREE for the taking ... they are not light though... so if anyone wants any of them shipped to them I would ask for the shipping charge. probably just ask a vet if they have any might be the best idea.

      Great question. The fridge (in my particular RV) has all the propane related parts at the outside panel with great ventilation. It would take a massive leak to get into the living quarters. The only thing I do not feel good about, probably just me, I'm not crazy about the heater or furnace as some call it. I wished it had a cutoff switch, at the gas line for each individual gas related item. I once had Muppy inside while I was outside selling at a flea market. I came in to check on her and it was very warm in there. The AC was running, but so was the furnace. I had owned the RV for 3 years at the time, and I had never used the furnace, and had no idea how to turn it off. After that day, I have always thought a cutoff would be nice to have.

    Improving the exhaust ventilation, even adding a small circ fan inside the fridge is a great idea. But you lost me at bag of ice. The idea of using a propane, dc, of grid fridge is to not depend of bagged ice.

    • @davesrvchannel4717
      @davesrvchannel4717  Před 4 lety +1

      when you turn on an RV fridge, many of them take 2 days to cool, its even in the owner's manual (Dometic brand). If you put cold food in, the food can spoil before fridge cools. The whole idea behind using bag of ice, you can eliminate waiting 2 days for cold fridge, its cool in minutes, not days. After that you can go with or without ice. Many models also do not get very cold at all, the ice helps get it cooler. Its an option, not a requirement

      There is nothing wrong or unsanitary about those freeze packs. Actually, Dave is pretty clever for taking those instead of buying some. Its not like he is going to lick them or rub them on his unpackaged food.
