Cured fiberglass covered in peel ply is always a treat to rip off. It's possibly the best part of the process. The only annoying bit is if you have tiny cling-ons that stay stuck and you have to clean up by individually pulling on them with pliers or sanding. Anyway, I see no other people (present company excluded) in SA documenting builds, thanks for uploading.
Primarily for cost saving. Also high aspect ratio motorgliders are not as weight critical as other aircraft and a little extra weight does not adversely influence performance.
