Very nice video how did u get the car inspected by the state and how much did it cost and how did that work
Good question, in Tennessee you have to send before and after pictures along with all the parts receipts along with $75 to the State and if needed they will schedule the inspection. In our case one was not needed so they sent us the paperwork to get our tag and title. Thanks for watching and subscribing.
Just FYI, If you buy a car in a state that does NOT require a broker, you don't need to go through a broker to buy the car. For example, If you live in Tennessee (where you need a broker) and you are looking to buy a car in Iowa (which does NOT require a broker), you can bid on the car directly through copart and save some money. If you were bidding on a car in Tennessee, then it doesn't matter which state you're from, you'd need a broker.
does IAA work this way as well i assume not cause i’ve looked into a lot and so far only co part does
What if I bought a car where you don't need a broker but I wanted to sell in a state where you need a broker? Like I'm from NC but I have family in NY that wants cars
@@itslu4092 Im not too sure. I've really only done research through copart.. Im assuming the same rules apply to IAA since the laws are by state.
@@dayshonjackson8605 That should be OK. As long as you can get the car "road worthy" and pass NC's state inspection so that you get a "rebuilt from salvage" title, you should be able to sell in NY with no problem.
That’s good to know.
From one Tennesseean to another, thank you. You explained this better than anyone that I watched before.

Very informative sir! Thanks for making this video! 👍🏽

This video was very informative, sir. Thank you for taking the time to put it together. I'm a competent weekend warrior mechanic who wants to buy a salvage title motorcycle in my home state of FL. Now I have a better understanding of what I'm getting myself into.
Thank you for the kind words, best of luck in your quest!
This is the best video that explains how to buy a car from auction. Thank you for this amazing video.
Thank you for the kind words, thanks for watching and subscribing!
Love this video! Been doing this myself for a good bit. Everyone clickbait’s you into oh I got this for 900$ ect. But it’s bs. Whatever your winning bid is double it and keep that in mind as well when hitting the bid button! The fees are no joke. Then transport ect. A lot involved. Well explained with factual information! Not the fairy tale these others make it seem like! Keep up the good real content!
Thanks for the support!
That is a ton of info to unpack, thanks for sharing.
You’re welcome! We just wanted to show some of the hoops you have to jump through for anyone that is wanting to try to buy a car on copart.

Very very good video. Thanks
Good job on explaining how it works. Im in a dif state and chose auto bidder, I bought a SXS 2 months ago and the deal went just like ur toyota truck deal. went to the bank wire transferred the $$ just like they said to do then 2 days later went to the local CoPart yd where they loaded it onto my trailer and shazammm. Always kno about the fees above what u paid for the vehicle. Theres a certain amount of luck or trust when bidding on a item that you cant view in person prior. Mine worked out sweeet. again good job on ur presentation. thx
We are glad it worked out. Thank you for sharing your experience we appreciate that ! Thanks for watching and subscribing!

Welcome
Great video. I am looking for a cheap project from Copart myself. So good to see all the fees. Kinda messed up they charge so many petty fees but I guess you have to. 👍
Yes there are a lot of fees, but if you know that going in it helps in the bid calculation. We hope you find that new project at a bargain!
This is me totally, all I want is a parts car for my escape. Thanks man!
Thanks for watching!
I've bought about 10 cars through them, mostly to flip. I only left $500 in my account so I could buy up to $5000 worth of cars. But I did buy a 2003 Grand Prix for $200 that needed some work. I put $600 into it in 2013. I drove it for a while, my wife drove it for a while, then gave it to my daughter when I moved to Phoenix . My daughter still drives it.
Their fees are excessive but so are the fees at most auctions I've been to. The only way to get around the fees is city or county auctions, but they mostly contract auctions out now so you're back paying fees. You can make it work, but you have to figure the fees in your bids. I haven't had to use a broker, especially in AZ. You can buy anything without a dealers license.
Great video! Question for you. Did you do transportation through Copart or Salvage Retailer?
I have used the Copart transportation before and Uship thanks for watching Merry Christmas
Thanks for sharing 👍
Great video. Thanks for info. Just one question what happend to $1500 deposit to Salvage Reseller? Did you get that back or they keep that? Thanks
Thanks for watching and subscribing! If you close the account you can request the deposit back. As long as your account is open you have to have at a minimum a $400 deposit.
great video!
Thank you!
So I live in NC I understand I don't need a broker but what if I wanted to sell the car in NY how would that go?
Great info 👍🏼 how much did you spend to repair the truck?
We spent around $5000 in parts but that included everything tires and wheels lift kit and everything! Thanks for watching
How long is thr buying process ?
It's a whole lot easier and cheaper to just buy a car directly on Copart site from a state that allows public buyers. Drive and pick it up yourself and cut out the middle man. Example I live in SC and buy in GA.
Great vid....did you get your $1500 or 10% deposit back after purchasing the Tacoma?
Thanks for watching and subscribing! You can get it back after you close the account.
Are you able to just drive it off the Copart lot (if driveable) or does it have to be delivered to your address? If delivered, how expensive was it for your truck in Alabama to TN?
Technically your not supposed to drive a salvage vehicle on the road but if I remember correctly it was 700-800 dollars to tn
Good info.....
Thank you!
Great video
Thank you we tried to share our experience. Thank you for watching and subscribing!
Thank you
I might missed something but I was waiting for info, which disclose some steps after winning the lot. What happens next? How do you get the title and how do you register the car? And what time does it take in overall to get the car to your ownership. Sincerely
The title is mailed to you from the broker and you,can pickup the vehicle or pay to have it delivered to you. Depending on the state the processes for registering can be different. Hanks for watching
Nice video 👍
Thank you for watching and subscribing!
Unless you buy something dirt cheap you could find somewhere else, the fees aren't too bad.
@16:40 The virtual bid fee is a ripoff. Their server and staff costs don't rise with the price of the vehicle.
Great video!
Did you have to follow the broker / no broker rule in the state you purchased or in the state you live? Their help page says, "Without business licenses, private individuals buying in ." That seems to say it's where are purchasing it, not where you live. If I understood your video it sounded like you went by the TN rules (where you live) vs the AL rule (where you purchased it). In your case, TN and AL are the same. I live in MO but the nearest Copart is right over the border in KS and they are completely opposite of each other. MO clean title - no broker, salvage - broker. KC clean title - broker, salvage - no broker.
Thanks again, I'll be subscribing.
It is the state you purchase in our example we bought in AL which without a dismantler license you can’t buy salvaged. But for example GA we can buy clean title / salvage title without a broker. Different rules for different states but the broker worked well for us we didn’t need to sort all that out. We did buy in TN, AL, SC, NC, KY, LA, and TX using the broker with no issues. We are not paid by the broker LOL that is quite the opposite. Thanks for subscribing! We appreciate you!
@@OrangeWiresGarage Thanks for the quick reply. I am looking at low end, strip and scrap opportunities so adding a broker, if I don' t need to, will cut into the profit margin. This is good info, I live in MO but Copart is in KS and in KS I can buy salvage without a broker.
@@jimstaszko1675 if you don’t need a broker in the state where you want to buy then you don’t go with the broker it will cost more

How did transportation work? Could you go yourself to pick it up, another person or company?
This particular one we used uship to get it picked up. You can go pick them up in person. Thanks for watching and subscribing!
I had few questions as far how to sell once I have purchased a vehicle from Copart, fixed it and then sell. What’s the process with that? Can you help?
Different states have different methods, what state are you in?
Can you view the vehicles on copart lot with your membership to the broker? And are you bidding on the car that's on copart lot or the salvage reseller lot after they've purchased it from copart? I'm really confused.
It is confusing for sure! You are bidding on a car on the Copart Lot. You buy the car through SalvageReseller and they handle the paperwork for you for a fee of course. It does stink that you can no longer go to the Copart lot and look at cars with a membership to salvagereseller. When we called salvagereseller about that they said we could pay for a membership at Copart and they would refund it if we purchased a car. Hope this helps and if you have anymore questions feel free to hit us up! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
@@OrangeWiresGarage that was very helpful. Thank you so much! The refund part was very insightful, actually and got my hopes up about doing it via the broker way.
After all is said and done and you get your vehicle, do you have to go register it at the d.o.l. and pay all those registration fees on top of everything? Or is it like buying from a dealership and all the registration work is all done and you are just waiting on your title to come in the mail?
No unfortunately the STATES are standing there with their hands out to get all the money from you for that. TAX Tag and title fees on top. Thanks for watching !
Is there a fee every time a bid is placed? Say I bid and am outbid so I bid again? Am I charged the fee a second time? I am trying to purchase a wrecked sports car to repair and that would really impact my strategy. Great content by the way! Loved the video. 👍
There is no fee for bidding unless you win the bid. So the Internet bid fee ($129)would apply only after you win. The brokers charge a monthly/yearly fee to be able to bid . Good luck hope you get it! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Bidding on my (minimal hail damage) totaled RV, so I'm doing that now.
We hope you get it! Thanks for watching and subscribing! We appreciate it and we appreciate the comments!
@@OrangeWiresGarage Ya I was able to finish your video. great video! I am in OH. I'm bidding on a SALVAGE RV, so from what I can see, I do NOT need a broker in OH to buy a SALVAGE TITLE RV. I will call COPART tomorrow and find out for sure but I don't know if they'll answer my question.
@@QuantumRift I looked at the licensing info page for Ohio and it does look like you are correct. www.copart.com/content/us/en/licensing/licensingoverview I hope you get it!
So I live in Illinois to buy a car here you need a broker if I buy from Iowa that doesn't need a broker do I still have to use one because my state requires one?
You should be able to buy in Iowa and go get it.
if I got anything from this video its that you're a couple of guys that work on trucks after work and you don't have a driver's license
Ha ha so you were paying attention
My only question is: Did you get to bid "Live" during the auction? or were you only allowed to put in a "max bid" ahead of time?
Absolutely it’s no fun if you can’t bid live. But you can do both thanks for watching and subscribing
@@OrangeWiresGarage Thank you! The other 2 questions i have: Once you register with Auto Bid Master, Can you bid at any auction? and, How do you get your deposit back?
We used salvagereseller but we could bid at any of the Copart Auctions we wanted to. You get your deposit back when you close your account.
@@OrangeWiresGarage That was really helpful. Thank you again!!! Let me subscribe...
fees any different from autobidmaster or salvageresell or one is cheaper then the other?
We have not used autobidmaster, checked out their website but couldn’t really find any fees listed. Sorry, but thanks for watching and subscribing!
Will you use them again & have you ?? I looked today and they wasn’t on copart but I went to the website
We have used them several times, not going to say it was pleasant every time though.
what it means when he writes title code: ON PERMIT NO BRAND-UNFIT?? can i put it on the road? Thx so much
Haven’t saw that one before so maybe we wouldn’t buy that one! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
How long did it take after paying broker for Copart to be paid and ready to be picked up?
We paid the broker in the morning and had the release paperwork to pick it up the same afternoon
Do I need to deposit 10% on broker AND Copart account ? I have a basic membership.
Different states have different rules but if you use a broker then only deposit the broker but if you can buy directly from Copart in your state it is probably best to just do that!
how do i get the title to the vehicle if i go with a broker
Copart mails it to the broker and the broker will mail it to you. That’s a great question.
If you use a broker, do you have to make a copart account?
No you do not need a Copart account just an account with your broker. Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Do you still need a broker even with the no license filter ?
No if you buy in a state that doesn’t require a dealer license you do not need a broker, different rules for different states. It can get confusing. Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Have you done any more since?
We used the broker many times up until we got our dealers license. We still use the broker if we buy in Alabama
How would you get such vehicle insured?
Insurance is not a problem at all, we just add the vehicle to our policy just like any other vehicle. Thanks for watching and subscribing!
does it mandate to drop the car off at a business address though? not your residence? or is this just a false rumor
We have never used the Copart shipping, we use different transportation services or go ourselves. Maybe someone else has the answer for you.
Do licensed dealer pay less in taxes ?
That is a very good question. When we used the broker we did not pay any sales taxes to Copart or the broker, but we did have to pay sales tax to the state of Tennessee when we registered the vehicle. If you were a licensed dealer purchasing the vehicle for resale then you wouldn’t have to pay the sales taxes you could pass that burden to the buyer.
boy you love to roll that page up and down... gave me vertigo... and a migraine trying to watch what you were doing
May apologies sometimes I do scroll around!
What happens to your 10% deposit?
You can get it back when you close your account. Until then the broker hangs onto it. Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Hello, can your broker buy same car, and send to a client in Nigeria?
I’m not 100% sure on that but we used salvagereseller.com as our broker you can reach out to them! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Many thanks Owires!
What happens to the deposit fee let’s say $400 if you don’t win? Do you owe the broker anything?
If you do not win you do not have to pay anything.
So you recommend buying my personal veichle from here?
We don’t necessarily recommend buying a salvage vehicle to repair, but if you wanted to we just shared how we did it in our state without a license. Thank you for watching and subscribing!
@@OrangeWiresGarage ok awsome tysm
My 2007 Lexus ES350 came from copart, though I missed the auction but found the dealer who had the car. Have had it for a year and it's been great. Low miles, one owner, all the keys, full spare, original documentation, books, etc. Diamond in the rough. Was a donated vehicle, clean title, minor dents and scratches.
I just signed up but do not see the seller? also do you think there is a good chance to win a bit at that last second?
It’s possible!
Thanks! Why Salvage reseller over auto bid masters?
At the time when we researched it we decided to go with salvagereseller after that we just went with it. Maybe auto bidmasters is better. I think the fees are comparable. Thanks for watching and subscribing!
@@OrangeWiresGarage I just find it weird auto bid masters doesn't do the 10% match with the initial deposit of 600 require, vs the others. I just hear auto bid masters is late to pick up cars and its REQUIRED to use their shipping service. On a sidenote I think I was your 2kth sub! :)
@@The2Coolest2 thanks for subscribing! We are sitting at 1999 at the moment but we are going to have a 2k giveaway in a couple of weeks. With salvage reseller we have picked up vehicles ourselves but also used uship as well. Using a broker is not always pleasant either just saying.
@@OrangeWiresGarage Oh I see, YT told me I was possibly the 2kth!
Yes, I heard auto bid master is pretty good at giving the title right away, which is making me want to use them vs the others, but being forced to ship with them is a bit lame. Thanks for the reply!

i'm in state of SC, where they require a broker as well, but what if i'm buying from NC where they dont a broker, could i buy from NC lots without a broker or license ?
That is a possibility for sure , it would however still require at a minimum a basic membership and uploading a copy of your drivers license. I think that might possibly work if it does please post back and let us know. Thanks for watching and subscribing!
I am curious about this too. Do you have any update here?
@@OrangeWiresGarage That's the thing, we pay for an account because we need a broker in our state, we aren't going to make a separate account on copart and pay them as well just to avoid broker fee. Unless brokers don't charge on states that don't require a license, but I doubt it.
@@The2Coolest2 brokers charge for everything even $55 just to mail paperwork. If you go through a broker you will have to pay for every transaction in any state .
@@OrangeWiresGarage Yeah that's what I mean, so you basically have to decide whether to bid in only non required states or required states, not both.
basically copart takes 7% and the brokers take another 5-7%...call it 15% ...which is ridiculous !
You can say that again, you kind of have to keep the bid low. Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Shit, with all those fees, i thought the government was the only one that screwed the people.
Yes sir you gotta bid it cheap or all those fees will pile up quick!
let me help you guys out.... how to buy a car without a license...
step 1, make friends with someone in a state that doesn't require a license to purchase things.
step 2, use their address and get a license in that state.
it's a little more work but totally worth it...
Get a dealer license in that state?
Why on Earth would you win a bid for 1000 but pay 15k???
I wouldn’t do that for sure
They’re greedy asfk. The basic member ship is 99$ now and the premiere is arnd 250$ plus 400$ deposit they’re out of their head
