On the high speed you come out 3/4 of a turn from lightly seated. That is the starting point but then you must put it on the boat put it in gear and go to full speed and turn the dials both ways until the motor falters, going back and forth until the smoothest operation is achieved

1-1/2 turns out on your top, low- speed needle from lightly seated is the correct starting point

I'm currently working on a 1971 Johnson 6hp 6r71G, I have everything working on it to were it starts in 1 pull from cold, but I am unfamiliar with the lean and rich knob tuning. Do you have the same motor to make a video on going over the Lean and rich adjustment? When putting the lean and rich needle in, I seated it in gently and did a full 360 degree turn out and then a 1/2 turn out after that to get it into position "according to online forums I saw" let me know if this does or does not sound correct based on your experience. Also when rebuilding the carb, I made sure every port, jet hole ect, were clear of debris or any obstruction, adjusted the float bowl and tested to make sure it was adjusted correctly. I just need to know how and or if I need to tune it in using the lean and rich knob. Thanks!
