  • In this review I'll be looking at the Asvine V126, a vacuum-filled fountain pen with an EF nib. I have tested the pen before in M, so I'm mainly interested in the EF nib and the new teal acrylic now offered. Hint: the teal is a great color for this pen.

    I have the V126 in smoke gray and EF nib. I really enjoy using that pen. Also, I have been able to top it off so I truly get a huge amount of ink to work with. Thanks for showing the teal version. It's very pretty and is now definitely on my to purchase list.

    I got the same pen but with Medium nib. It's amazing out of the box. The filling system is very good. Got a 99% fill with the two stroke method. The best vac filler I've ever owned.

    I've been using my EF frosted black v126 daily since July 2023. It's been a solid workhorse pen. It's insanely well built for how much it costs.

    I can't lie, Asvine is really catching my eye. I'm absolutely gonna try the P20 and I think I'm gonna try this one for my first vac filler.
    Additional note: I'm most interested in this price range for pens and hoping they withstand the test of time 🤞🏼 I just want a small collection and I need a TWSBI Eco replacement.

      Oh
      Asvine and Hongdian are so much better then twsbi.
      I had an eco. Sold it.
      I love my diamond 580 however I also thought of selling it in the beginning.
      However, whenever I buy an asvine or hongdian i get blown away with their price/quality ratio.
      Much better than my vintage montblanc 146
      And competing with my lamy2000

      @@nccastro653 It seems like you're not alone in your assessment. I've had multiple personal reports saying the same. My Eco cracked after a month. I was very careful with it, but it just developed a crack in the section.
      I'm gonna be ordering the P20 in the next couple weeks for sure. I think I'm gonna check out some Hongdian models too. Thanks for your input!

    I really do like that the section comes off for cleaning and filling. I'm much more likely to syringe-fill the barrel then screw the section back on than to try filling from a bottle since I tend to use 5ml sample vials for ink.
    I even do that with the Lamy 2k just to ensure I'm getting the last possible drop of ink in the pen.

    Thanks for the review, James. I have the grey model with a Fine nib. It is very smooth. My other Asvine models have Extra Fine nibs. I think these nibs are perhaps tuned before being shipped.
    If they release another vacuum filler or a cartridge converter with a large capacity like the Jinhao 9016 or even an eyedropper fill pen, I will be in line to get it.
    If there was any criticism it would be that I wish the fill was better. The best I can get is half fill.

    I have this pen and I love it. It never lets me down and is a pleasure to use.
    Interesting nib. Especially for an EF, there’s a surprising amount of line variation, for example in the loop of the y in “honeycomb.” I assume it’s from variation of how much of the nib tip touches the paper as you swoop by.
    Nice ink color! My teal V126 is inked with a similar color, Sailor Shikiori Miruai, which I’ve heard translates to “Indigo Seaweed.”

    I very much enjoy your reviews. Your focus on reasonably priced pens is very needed. Your biblical quotation was very uplifting, keep it up.
    The only change I would have asked for in the past was the provision of measurements, which I am glad you have added. Thank you.

    Nice review James. One of my earliest Chinese pens I acquired for the collection was the Translucent Frosted V126 with a fine nib. Recently, since I liked the pen so much I went ahead and got the newer Translucent Frosted Black with a fine nib. Most of the extra fine Chinese nibs that I've tried have not worked well for me. It's only when there is really no choice but an EF nib that I get the pen with the expectation of changing it later on.

    • @JG3Reviews
      @JG3Reviews  Před 4 měsíci

      Most of my EF nibs have been in pens styled like the Parker 51 (hooded, tubular nibs). Of those, several have been quite good, but I usually swap about half of them to mini fude nibs.

    Asvine pens and nibs have been great. I have never had to do any nib tuning. My 3 pen case that I carry to work with me, currently is filled with following Asvine pens: P20 (medium nib), M169 (fine nib), and P80 (extra fine nib). All of these pens are smooth wet (but not too wet) writers.

    I just inked this exact pen up today with Syo-Ro. Had I found these before I purchased a couple TWSBI Ecos, I probably would have gotten several of them!! The EF is a much smoother writer than the TWSBI nibs in F or EF.

    The question I have with the Asvine V126 is how does it compare to the Wing Sung 699? I have one Pilot Custom 823 (fantastic pen) and a few Wing Sung 699's which I like with a few reservations. If the Asvine V126 is as good or better than the Wing Sung 699, it might be worth a try.

    I have the same pen in black, and in a medium nib. Unfortunately, the rubber part of the plunger has broken off (my fault for leaving it alone for a while) and I would much prefer a fine nib. Otherwise it is a great pen, and I love how the grip section feels.

      1) you could probably glue it back on, I don’t know because it was such a small part and I lost it.
      2) It’s a bit wide for a medium.

  • @felicianomiko5659
    @felicianomiko5659 Před 3 měsíci

    I have one of these in medium, though I prefer fine/extra fine and while I love the clean aesthetic and feel, it has a tendency to skip a lot on me. I rotate my pens and inks every month for daily journaling and it writes great at first, a little wet, but in issues there on good paper, but then it starts skipping a lot. I’ve only used one ink in it so far (diamond forest green), but it’s an ink I have zero issues with in my TWSBI Echo in a fine nib no less. Very frustrating because I want to love it. I’ll keep trying it though before I give up on it.

    • @JG3Reviews
      @JG3Reviews  Před 3 měsíci

      Two things I'd check first: are you opening up the safety valve each time? I was writing with mine last night and had a skip because I'd forgotten. If that's not it, I'd just give it a thorough flush. Sometimes even a pen that's been cleaned initially still needs one more go. I had a Pilot that didn't write well until it's second or third cleaning, then it was fantastic.

    • @felicianomiko5659
      @felicianomiko5659 Před 3 měsíci

      @@JG3Reviews I’m going to try cleaning it because yes, the valse is open. Not my first vac so that much I know. It having something in the feed makes the most sense since it write fine at first then slowly has more and more flow issues. So a good cleaning is next on the list. I’ll let you know if that fixes it.
