    @ 3:55 "So it is quite lighter". Is it? Both models weigh 2kg. The 190 is 500g lighter than the 055 in the same material. In both, Carbon version is around 500g lighter. Useful video nonetheless, thanks

      Yea, it's a 8mm hex nut in those leg locks and my (used) 055XB didn't include the Manfrotto tool so I just keep a nut driver (8mm) in a side pouch for those (very rare) times when I may need to tighten things up a bit.

      For those without the tool the clamp nut is an 8mm hex and a nut driver in that size works a treat. ;)

    I am a beginner, looking for my first DSLR tripod. I have watched a few tripod reviews and some of those reviews,like this one, ignore the maximum heights of tripods which are important if you are tall. Manfrotto Be Free Live has a maximum height 150cm without its ball head which is too low for me. It’s kind of sad.

    • @robinm1729
      @robinm1729 Před 3 lety +2

      True. HOWEVER, one advantage that's is virtually never mentioned about the "PRO" 90° version is the significantly larger size of the center column's locking collar (the dark-red thingy), compared with the regular non-90° version. I've owned both tripods in the past, and the "PRO"s center column lock is noticeably more secure. It's like comparing the grabbing ability of a whole fist around a pole, versus just using your thumb and index finger (like an OK sign).

    • @alangeorgebarstow
      @alangeorgebarstow Před 3 lety +2

      I've had a Manfrotto 190 series tripod-originally with a 200 fluid head but now with a far superior 128RC fluid head-for over 30 years. I use it to support my two spotting scopes in the field: a 60mm Optolyth and a 3½" Questar. It is light and sturdy and does a good job but I need a bigger one, especially for the Questar. To that end I've just ordered a Manfrotto 055Xpro3 in black aluminium for use with the 128RC. I shall keep the 190/200 head combination for a back-up or just home use.
      Oh, and I fastened some one-foot lengths of foam pipe insulation (bought from a plumbers' merchant) to the top of the legs of my 190 and secured them by winding some black Tesa 'tough tape' around them. The comfort this gives to the shoulder when carrying the scope on the tripod for long distances in the field is immeasurable.

    • @robinm1729
      @robinm1729 Před 3 lety +2

      Define "medium size." :)
      The 190 will do nicely with any scope in the 60 to 70mm range, though get the one with 3-section legs, not the 4-section shown in this vid. (The 4-section leg model has thinner lower sections and an extra leg "joint" which makes it slightly more "flexy.")
      For scopes 80mm and above, you're better off with the 055 (again, go for the 3-section leg model).
      As for the head, the MHXPRO-2W is a primo choice for any scope between 60 and 85mm.

      The plate that is included with the Sony Alpha version of the BeFree Advanced is designed to prevent the camera body from twisting. If you wish to use a lens collar, you will need a regular Manfrotto 200PL plate.

    One of the CZcams channels said the 055 is going out of production, I was actually upset at the news. I’ve just taken my very old 055c out of service as the leg adjustment grips have snapped, they were made out of cast iron then and I have no idea how many times I’ve use it in going on for 25 years. I asked Manfrotto about spares and they said they had two different models of older 055, both of them were much younger than mine. I’d like to get it fixed as I got it off my first photography tutor.

    • @GentecInternational
      @GentecInternational  Před 6 lety

      +Mark Harris - don't believe everything you read on the internet, the 055 isn't going anywhere ;) We may still have parts available for your older 055c. If you're in Canada, give Gentec International a call at 1-905-513-7733. Many of the parts diagrams are also available on www.manfrottospares.com.

      Gentec International Thank you very much, I think it was on fstoppers channel. I’m in the U.K. but thank you very much for your kind offer of help. I have been on Manfrotto Spares before, it was from there that I emailed Manfrotto themselves, I don’t think the person believed when I said my my leg adjustment fittings were cast iron with a tap style tightener. Again thank you for your kindness.
