WANT TO SEE WHAT THIS AREA LOOKS LIKE IN 2018?? • 30th Anniversary West ...
These were the days of NO cell phones, no internet, no Iphones, and no mp3s! And no tablets! This is the year of the VCRs and TVs that weighed a ton, and Atari 2600 and Nintendo 8 bit systems. Oh, also the record players and home rack stereo systems with double cassette players
This is a video I made in 1988, when I bought my RCA CPR-250 VHS camcorder for $1000. I was 17. And man. I was ENJOYING this cam. And I wanted to make this video for one reason and ONE reason only! That is so I CAN REMEMBER THIS!!! For years to come! As of 4-2018. 30 years ago!!!!
ATTENTION: Don't bombard me with animal abuse in this video Quit with your whining about a 7 year old with a cat. This is 1988 for crying out loud.

It's funny because everyone talks about how times were simpler then (and they were) but I distinctly remember my father saying the same thing about the 50s and 60s back in the 80s.
Anytime before 9/11 was a simpler, better time.
Special snowflakes in every generation
I was 22 when this recording was made. Funny thing is that cars are more complicated, but far more reliable now. I was just watching new car reviews from the 70's and early 80's videos. The brand new cars were breaking down, air conditioner failing, tail lights stopped working, rear floors filling with water from bad seals and paint jobs that were abysmal and cars dented from bad sheet metal from the factory. I forgot how bad cars were made back then until watching these new car reviews. The 80's were a rough time as that was the onset of the rust belt and foreign competition was eating away American jobs as factories were closing. The breakup of the U.S.S.R. was causing tension as separate nuclear Baltic states were now being left to govern on their own and it was unknown if a military coup would get hold of the nuke silos. One thing nice about the 80's is that is when they promised that cable television would get rid of commercials since you would be paying for television. That lasted for a little while. It seemed strange to see commercials again as they promised that we would no longer need them. Then a 4 minute commercial began to appear every 6 minutes into a show. The biggest difference for kids between then and now was social interaction. You had to hang out to socialize at events or the mall or at someone's home. It was more civil since if a person had something bad to say about you it involved risk since it was said to your face, not on a cell phone.
Anytime before social media and tech gen was simpler.
@Bobby Brady Technology yes may have evolved but people do not however
This man was vlogging before it was even a thing
Jayrene kock actually it was a thing back then
This is how people used to vlog back then with just a standard camera before the smartphones and tablets came along

Kimberly Ward I’d go back and watch sports all day lol
So true
This is 4K quality compared to surveillance camera footage these days
Oh didn’t expect to see you here.
Well yeah, if you're a large corporation you'll have a massive amount of cameras. All that footage has to be stored somewhere, and most of it is stored for at least half a year. And if you're a small business, trust me. Storage will become costly. 24/7 videotaping. Usually, the bitrate of a 720p video is 17Mbps (that is 17 million bit per second). Since 1 byte 1B=8 bits, this means the bit rate is 17/8=2.1 megaBytes per second (2.1 MB/s). 1 minute=60 second, so it takes about 120 MB (or less, so let's say 1 minute=100 MB (megabytes). Therefore 1 hour=60 minutes would take 6000 MB, which is about 6GB. 480p would be at even a lower rate of like 6MB per minute. That's still an insane amount if you're thinking long term. Multiply that by as much as you'd like I've given you the calculations you need.
BETAMAX betamax was superior in every way and food tasted a fuckton better and Cola it was so fruity you only needed one glass and one glass of cola made you High!
Yeah like Omar said, the main issue is storage. Memory storage is still mostly limited, so that’s why most security footage is in SD and not HD.
The camera cost 1000$ It says so in the discription, even for a old camera quality pays I guess.
I'm so glad people filmed random things in the 80s, was a nice time to be a child
Like commercials... I remember when saying then, "God I hate commercials"... Now I'll sit and spend hours watching 1980s commercials and say, "God I remember that day"... Or "I remember when that came out"...

Yeah. Whenever I watch a ghost show on TV, the night-vision footage is always very fuzzy.

Theres a reason why they film those shows with a potato. So your brain will see patterns in the blurry pixels and you scare yourself unconciouslly rather than the video itself actually portraying a ghost encounter.

Why it was better in the 80s? because they had less in general. and when you have lesser.. you appreciate MORE! And happiness is found in appreciation. More then expectation we need more appreciation these days!
Wow that's actually really true!
What are you talking about? The economy in the 80s was booming, because people were buying so much stuff...
The 80's were all about consumerism. We had just as much then. We had more. We had to buy magazines to see pictures of our favourite stars. It was all about buying things, card collecting, stickers, Cabbage patch dolls, GI Joe, Barbie, trampolines, swimming pools, bikes. It was ALL about buying and advertising. Consumerism with no second thought defines the 80's. There was no political correctness or questions about where things were made. Now we are more environmentally aware and are supposed to have changed our ways. I'm going to assume you are too young to remember? It was all about high fashion and cocaine. Every summer neighbourhoods would be flooded with garage sales.
More then expectation...or more THAN? 🙈🙉🙊
So you're saying LESS IS MORE... That's SO 80s!!

In California you mostly cannot but try some of the other states.
Even by 1988 a house was already too expensive for a person with a normal job. It already required most people to have two incomes to buy a house. College was still fairly affordable, and student loans could be paid off more easily. Most companies provided half way decent health insurance for a lot less money. Reaganomics war on the working-class & the middle-class had already shipped a lot of jobs out of the country and wages stagnated below the cost of living increases. Except for Boomers (mentality, not age group.) it was pretty obvious that the race to the bottom had already started and that things were going to get a lot worse in the future.

(And yes, at school on a little Apple computer I played the original Oregon Trail!)
@Norwegian Frida that's no reason to cry though. You just gotta learn to move on and get used to what we got. When you think about it, people probably felt the same back then too. People would talk about their life in the 60s, 50s, etc. It goes around in circles. Eventually people in the future will say,"Man, I wish I could go back to the 2010s,2000s..." The technology is great too! Back then you would have to use a telephone to get in contact with someone, but with smartphones, we can contact someone on the go! Life was the same back in the 70s/80s/90s/00s as it is now. The reason it seems so much better is because everybody only remembers the really good things, but they forget about all the really small things. People in the future are gonna be like "Man, I wish I could have lived back in the 2010s" But in truth, even if they did, life would be exactly the same.
It's funny that you say that because I actually talked about this on another video! A common question I get is "How do I compare 80s with today.

@@goodhumourwagon The 90s is when things started falling apart. Back in the 80s, we were mostly at peace, not fighting wars in the Middle East. Also we MADE stuff in America, we didn't sell out to China for virtually everything.
@@thunderbird1921 Early 90's were fine though, especially for the Western World. With the fall of the USSR, the world was at one of its most peaceful moments as the threat of a world-scale nuclear war was out of the picture. But things started to screw up again in the late 90's. Even the Doomsday Clock says so.

In the 80s we looked foward for what the future would hold
Now in 2019 we look back on what the 80s must of been like.
It's a cycle. When we are young, we always look forward to the future. When we get old, we look back to the time when we were young.
I wasn't even alive LOL
Every time I watch these videos I can't help but think that life just seemed so much more simple and enjoyable back then. Before the internet. Sure you couldn't Google something really quick or whatever, but everyone just seems so much more friendly and connected.
For those of y’all who didn’t exist during this just imagine this, you don’t exist, you don’t feel anything, hear anything, not even see black itself, your just not there, it was like that from even before the beginning of time up until you were born, just process that through your head.
MattDog lol not being able to see black itself wow
Don Putansu
Most likely.
Chill u made my head hurt lol dat shit scary
The fear of death...do we stop thinking? Do we exist in a void of limbo? Is there really nothing and you forget everything you ever did. Everything you are. Every opportunity. Every action. Gone.
I was in my mom's womb and ready to be birthed about a month after this was filmed.

I graduated High School in 88. I'm not from Cali but this really takes me back to the simple times. If only life could be like this again.
So did my wife
That was back when TV's used to weigh a ton. XD
Big boxy TVs were common until 2009 when flat-screen became the norm after the digital switch.

@@theallknowingsause8940 That's crazy. I have a book that I had to hand write all my instructions on how to do the simplest things like change the colour of my screen. Morbid611 either the kittens got buried long ago and still are or they got eaten

Everything still looked like this growing up. I was born 93. I miss it. People's houses still decorated for the 70s sometimes. It was a time. I miss everyone just walking down the sidewalks, going to knock on your friends door to see if they were home. Man, all of that's gone now. It looks weird seeing an 8 yr old walking down the road now. There's a lot of good today I don't take for granted though. It's been an interesting life so far.
I love the 80’s interior house decor. Pretty much what our house looked like inside back then.
80s-90s never forgotten. Best 20 years crossed by humanity.
Quality of life much improved, birth of home computing, big leaps in general technology, tons of golden movies, new frontiers on music, art....
What makes the 80s so great? The fact that you see the entire decade as an asthetic? 🤦🏽♀️ What's so good about having way less then you're used to? Would you enjoy running around having sex and worrying about who has aids and who doesn't?

Actually I grew up about 20 Minutes away from where he lived in Southern California from 1986 to 1999.

Sky Mitou there are 2 versions of the 1980s. The suburban style but you also had latch key kids and a really wild generation that a lot of people ignore today. Remember the 80s the crack generation, punk rock and hip hop mixed with the highest crime and murder rates in modern history lol People act scared of the world today but the violence of yesterday dwarfed what we live in now
we would, you'd just be older lol
I wonder what attracts you to the period you mention. I am 45 and lived through. I am in the same position as you, but earlier years that I didn't experience. I want to live the 20s all the way to the early 70s.

Also of all the 80s "slice of life" type videos I've been watching, yours have been the best. No goofing around, no posturing, just a cozy, precise look at day to day life. Even the pop music that kinda sucked was still cool and quirky in its own way. Lol all the fashion styles that young people think are fresh and new were around in the 80s trust me.
Frank Lopez being a kid in 2019 kinda sucks for someone like me. I’m more of a out doors and hanging with my friends kinda kid. I have a cousin who just sits down on his floor and plays his stupid video games all day. Never wants to hang out with me when I’m at his house
Burnt Turtles ya i feel bad for you kids. Man we had so much fun ! Playing army, spying, jumping off roofs and climbing stuff! Rolling down steep hills at parks lol Catching lizards and frogs just doing fun things outside all day till the sun went down. Frank Lopez sounds like fun in the 80’s. Wish I was there
Aww all those cute kittens are all dead now...

Time traveler. Look how he is purposely showing you the news, price of camcorders, actual information. This was planned.
The person filming had the foresight to know things weren't going to stay that way. Incredibly intuitive. Maybe not a time traveler, but smart nonetheless.
I was thinking the very same thing...
Definitely intelligent. People probably thought he was a dork back then lol. The man was vlogging 25 years before anyone even knew what that was.
I think he actually belonged in this era. But he was born 30 years too soon.
Not time travel... However, he realizes how things change from say, his mom and dad's time... So he documented the paper in the video as a way to document how things change from his time to now... Smart? yes... Time traveler? No...
I was born in 1981 and got to be a little kid in the 80s. It was honestly the best generation to be a little kid, imo. The toys, cartoons, and video games that came from that era were iconic and many of it still holds relevance today, nearly 40 years later. Being a teen in the 90s was pretty cool, too. When I see zoomers and zillenials excited and nostalgic for the 80s and 90s it makes me feel incredibly lucky to have lived through them when I did.
Yes, that’s what I’ve said. The 80’s was the era for the kids
