- Final result of the reconstruction of a medieval waterway in the Dutch city of Utrecht. This project started in 1998 and took more than twenty years to complete. No less than 1400 meters of water and banks was brought back in this manner like it was before 1969. Now the water is mainly used for recreation. Parks, eco and public space are an important part of the improvements.
The video of the motorway was taken in 2010 shortly before it was closed down permanently. The boat video was made in September 2020 at the opening of the new waterway. In split screen the trips by car and by boat are synced and merged into one to illustrate the enormous effort.
Beautiful, great project! Like in Madrid, where they totally and beautifully redesigned and greenified the river area. Well done Utrecht!!! Thank you, thank you, it’s such a wonderful change!

Wonderful transformation or restoration. Both CU and RABO mean the same in Portugal, look it up. Not for decent people to use. I had no idea initially why people laughed when I showed them my credit card.
Cheeky of course to use 2010 footage in the winter, with grey skies and all, and the new version in the summer with nice sunny weather :p But it works! Looks so much better now
In 2010 we just drove around with a consumer grade tape cam and only a faint idea about what we were trying to accomplish lol. The water was a distant dream back then.

I still don't get why they're mowing so much of the banks between 0:13 and 0:17. Doesn't that patch they didn't get to yet look so much better? Of course they just mowed it but it just leaves dead, ugly brown grass behind. Why not just the banks be nice and green?

Vroeger liep het verkeer daar prima door.
Tegenwoordig sta je daar dagelijks vast.

I live in Utrecht and this project has caused endless traffic jams in the middle city of Utrecht. And the traffic jams are only getting worse because the municipality has switched from two-lane roads to single-lane roads in other places in Utrecht. Traffic in Utrecht has become a great chaos.

@L-Bj i'm very busy with it going back to a normal city. But as you know, immigrants are taking all of the houses, so it's not as easy as the voices in your head are thinking..

@@stereotype.6377 het maakt niet uit waar je rijdt met de auto tussen 1430 en 1830 uur staat heel Utrecht vast. A2, A27 een groot ellende.
@@Tha-King-Arthur Dan moeten er meer alternatieven komen voor de auto - of werkgelegenheden en woongebieden dichter bij elkaar brengen. Er is simpelweg niet genoeg plaats om iedereen in een auto rond te laten tuffen, en al helemaal niet als het zo’n grote impact heeft op de leefbaarheid en historische waarde van andere gebieden waar de meeste bewoners zelf überhaupt geen auto hebben, zoals bij Hoog Catherijne
