Excellent video, doing the rear discs on my sons car this weekend and this made it so much easier. many thanks.
THANKS (from Denmark) Very usefull video - nice filming of every detail.
Great video m8 👍 dealership wants 750+$$ to replace rear..no way I'm doing it myself and I'm saving close to half that much 😝 cheers everyone 👋
Cool. Thanks.
Thanks for watching really appreciate it
Hey man, great video!
What size is the Allen bolt head?
size 7 allen
Thanks for the very helpful video for the Golf rear brakes. Mine's a 2013 Mk7 Estate with the wretched EPB. Disc and pads seem OK but offside rear brake is binding. I'm hoping that cleaning up the pads and applying a smear of copper grease to the back and edges of the pads will solve the problem. If I ensure that the handbrake is off, is it possible to slide off the calliper, and more importantly, is it easy to slide the calliper and pads back over the disc ?
You can but make 100% sure the Handbrake is off and also make sure no one turns them on whil6the caliper is off. If you just put the pads that came off you should be ok, but if you try fitting new pads and discs you will struggle without resetting it.
@@TEAMR4ULTV Thanks for the further advice; I'll try it tomorrow morning.
I tried it earlier today and it worked. Corrosion near the rim on the inner face of the disc made removal of the calliper slower than expected; it was just a case of easing the calliper up and down until it eventually cleared the disc. Re-fitting the calliper was no problem. With hindsight, I should have disconnected the ABS lead before I started; it has very little slack. Next time I might be more courageous and disconnect the motor as shown in your video.
Hello,
great Video! My Question is, does the Wheel Disc spinns after the Reset (first Step), or is it lose so you can turn it?
Thanks
Thanks for watching really appreciate it. Am pretty sure it should be loose
Make sure the Handbrake is off when you are resetting it
Hi can you put a link to where you can get the software from as i need to do my Golf rear brakes. Thanks Andy
Just go on Ebay and search WOW software
I'll be doing discs & pads on the ground. Could I use an impact wrench on the M14 splines?
Impact wrench ie breaker bar (yes)
Hey do you nee to open break fluid reservoir and also when you close the piston back does that bleed the brakes
It is a good practice to open the brake fluid reservoir, but if you didnt it's not end of the world.
Also if you haven't taken any fluid pipes off you dont need to bleed them, when piston goes back that's it, it's done.
Brakes might feel a little spongy due to new brakes they will need to bed in
@@TEAMR4ULTV thanks very much for your reply
If you were replacing the rotor as well would you need the software still as you're removing the entire component from the rotor?
Yes you would
well played. easy to follow. peace be upon you.
Thanks for watching really appreciate it
Bro it doesn’t work summat wrong with canbus but can you do it without software even tho cuz I don’t think mines work on software
The Only Other way is leave the ignition on handbrake off and do it that way but you will have to wind the caliper piston in. If you had the software you could have just pushed the caliper in. But al be honest to wind it in really hard but can done hope that helps
Hi mate, I want to do my brakes this weekend, but I have a few questions please. Do I just need an OBD cable & the software to connect the laptop to my computer ? Also, I assume you have to buy the software, can you suggest the best place to shop ? Hope I have this right. Thanx
You need the proper software ware lap top , obd cable along with the box that goes with the software. But to be honest just see if you can borrow a LAUNCH OR A SNAP ON SCANNER
@@TEAMR4ULTV Will any software scanner do the trick or must it have specific functions/software on it ?
@@shawndreyer2638 it has to have the special function for the brakes
@@TEAMR4ULTV I assume it is the EPB function you talking about ? Thank you very much for all your help, much appreciated.
hi m8, i need to do mine soon, installed the wow software, how did you connect software to car?. thanks
What you have to do is choose all the right settings ie car, make, model engine size then go to function, calibration then go to parking brake and select move piston before Service, then when you have finished move piston after Service. NOTE the car I did it on was I think a 2017 but used the software and selected for 2014
@@TEAMR4ULTV
Hi thanks for your reply,.did you just use the bluetooth on the laptop to connect software/pc to the car via the bluetooth on the media/radio panel or did you use a obd to connect pc to car
Obd with wire to Connect to pc
Can I ask what version of the software did you use I'm trying to select one on AliExpress
@@robbiezxc
The one I got was the wow 5.00.8.
I will say you will need the obd wow bluetooth snooper for it to connect to the car. I could not get it to work without one so I have left it. There is a hack you can do with 2 wires and a 12v battery. Search on you tube for golf epb hack
Can you replace the pads without the downloading the software 2021 jetta
You can but it's so hard to wind the caliper back
im guessing the 2015 needs the software too. how much is this going to cost me?
Yes it will. If you go to a normal garage it will cost about max £80
That's parts and labour
Can't find the software on ebay!
Hi mate your right I cant seem to find the diagnostic tool anymore on ebay. But this one should be ok . You see on my diagnostic tool it wouldn't do it because dosnt do EPB After 2014 so I just did on 2014 vw Golf I think mk7 started on 2012
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/333653101611
I dont have vcds. Is it possible to do this while the contact is on?
You can but you need to wind it back ,its really hard to wind back. And if am not mistaken you need a 3 prong piece for the wind back tool. So yes can be dont but hard
@@TEAMR4ULTV I mean, leaving the key on the ignition. Then will the rear brake stay unlock maybe?
@@MKasap-te8vm you should be able to do it. But like I said you need to wind the caliper in if you do it that way. You cant push the caliper in the way I did. Also be careful some cars when you turn the engine off but ignition on the hand brake comes on.
Is using the software necessary? Or can i replace the pads and discs without issues?
I have done it without the software but really hard. You have to wind the caliper piston back instead of pushing it back.
Leave the ignition on and do it
Wanting to do the same without software - how do I wind the piston back as opposed to pushing it back? I tried using a g-clamp, and it got so tight I was worried I'd cause damage as opposed to bringing the piston back
@@martinwojtyna5222 i did mine by undoing the two screws on the bsck and used an E TYPE bit to wind in then pressed with a c clamp
@@lewisskeetmusic7502 thank you! Forgive my ignorance (I'm not very technically minded), but how much did you inwind? I'm guessing you mean the E12 gear, and if so, by how many rotations roughly? I'm terrified of going too far with things like this, so I've only gone about 1 rotation clockwise (as seen in another video)
Where can I get this software and cable ?
Any snap on software can do it. I bought mine from ebay
Where's the link to get the software
They dont do it anymore on Ebay sorry
Bloody modern cars...what a shit that you need a computer to do a simple job....hate
electronic handbrakes..
Lol that's true whats wrong with the normal Handbrake,
Anyway thanks for watching
I just replaced my brakes amd discs and had problem.with my clutch been stiff and soft feel lot worse the clutch is not good so beware of that
I never heard of that before. Replacing the brake pads and disc shouldn't effect the clutch. Anyway thanks for watching
